I can't see vaccine passports being a thing for cinemas and stuff. But it could become an insurance requirement to travel, just like going to certain countries you need jags before you go.

I'm curious on how they'll deal with kids, I know its unethical to trial drugs on kids so how do they work out dosages etc?

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/12/2020 14:17

Gah!

There's now a smattering of cases at DD's school. A bunch of the parents have now decided to start demanding the school goes to remote learning asap. (It's private...)

AND we've just had an email from the council, sent to all out of school care providers, asking us to basically share our whole client database. They can see the school registers on their systems, so they want an equivalent for out of school care providers (all private companies/charities not council operated) so want us to send a full list of every child who attends, what days, what bubble they are in. In a spreadsheet via email. WTF?!?!

anon444877 · 02/12/2020 14:19

At some point haven't they got to let people lower down vaccine chain because they're lower risk manage their own risks?

I really wouldn't be up for the idea of passes for this and that either.

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2020 14:20

I think we should be allowed out after the very elderly are vaccinated. It’s very much a disease if the elderly in terms of impact

You'd think so. Even thinking about a school situation; if the at risk adults (broad brush here) are vaccinated then to an extent it doesn't really matter if covid goes through the school. For children it does seem to be just another bug as far as I know. Where do we draw the line - it's going to be a long time before uni students are seeing a vaccine for example
rookiemere · 02/12/2020 14:24

I'm 9 in first phase, but DPs are 2 so fingers crossed they get it within next couple of months, then we could see them - regardless of what rules might be in place- without any worries of infecting them.

I expect within a few months there will be the option to pay to queue jump once vaccine can be made in sufficient quantities to meet state orders . At that point I'll happily pay if it means I have freedom to travel.

NotAnActualSheep · 02/12/2020 14:29

Yes, I confess I was surprised to read it would be available for all adults over time (summer 2021?). I thought they were stopping at 50, and younger only if vulnerable. Obviously there are some younger non-vulnerable people who are very badly affected, but I'd have thought the added benefit of protecting them wouldn't be worth the massive extra cost - as per flu vaccinations, they could be privately available to those that wanted it. Especially if there isn't perfect knowledge that it stops infection/ transmission, just that it seems to stop people getting very ill (or symptomatic... though I suppose that in itself will minimise transmission) .

Though if there ARE "immunity passports" or whatever (not keen on that at all) I suppose they'd have to be available. I'm happy to take whatever, whenever they choose to give it to me, if it means things start operating properly again and I can have my fucking pizza and wine even a placebo.

Jodri · 02/12/2020 14:30

Yes of course @WouldBeGood it is a good thing if they catch conditions and diseases whatever stage they are it.

What?! Surely they have no reason to know that. Isn't that some GDPR nightmare that you'd have to get every person's permission to do that- even for "public health" reasons? That is a huge amount of personal data.
WaxOnFeckOff · 02/12/2020 14:33

If it's required to travel abroad then if DH doesn't have it then we are fecked unless they still alllow for an element of testing in live scenarios.

I agree re Children etc. They don't need the vaccine and it could be argued that half of Phase 1 don't either.

Girls holidays for you then Wax 😎🍹

Perfect way to draw a line under bastard Covid.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/12/2020 14:41

Yes @NotAnActualSheep, I think it would be a GDPR breach. I think providing data on actual contacts of a confirmed case would fall under the various exemptions but I don't think providing a huge list of client data just in case it's needed would do.

And that's before we start on the security of the data and so on.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/12/2020 14:43

My view is get it out to those who are most likely to have a poor experience if they catch it and the rest of take our chances as we do everyday with other illnesses.

Yes some younger people have have poor outcomes but you can say that for anything and we don't have mass vaccinations or screening against other more impactful illnesses. ie. there will be under 50s who get bowel cancel but that doesn't mean that screening is extended to all age groups, same for breast screening etc. They take a risk based approach in terms of screening and make treatment available to all. We seem to have gone way off the page with this one infection.

Erm. Liability for that data share? sounds a bit of a mare Wednesday afternoon for you @StatisticallyChallenged

I've gone abroad with the kids (teens at the time) without him before but I've stopped short of an ultimatum to him at this point. No idea when any of us will get abroad and what the requirements might be so no point lighting the fire never mind adding more fuel.

I've never done a proper all female holiday other than going away with my sister a couple of times in early twenties.

Aye, indeed. Unless they can come up with something more solid than "well it makes things easier over the christmas period" they can bog off. We'll happily field track n trace on xmas day if needed

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/12/2020 14:48

I think you are spot on re GDPR @StatisticallyChallenged.

OP posts:
NotAnActualSheep · 02/12/2020 14:52

Yes, I think if test and protect were told by a covid positive patient that they had attended the setting on x days, they would have reason to ask you to provide details for any close contacts on that day (whether bubbles or whatever). But if they had the list, how would they know if a child wasn't in that day, or wasn't a close contact even if they were in the same bubble... which you would know through a register/ activity list. That's not a reasonable use of that data I wouldn't think. And no, email REALLY isn't the way to handle it if it were!

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/12/2020 14:55

That's the thing, although we have bubbles we also have enhanced tracking where we actual note down who would count as close contacts every day - so that we wouldn't have to isolate a big group. They wouldn't have that info.

Rae36 · 02/12/2020 15:56

We just got a message from school asking if students have access to WiFi at home. 😭

OOAOML · 02/12/2020 16:01

We just got another 'a learner in the school has tested positive' and I have a feeling it may be one of my daughter's friends. We've had a few tech and wi fi surveys but nothing recently.

I wonder if they would keep primary in and put secondary on home learning or if logistically it has to be everyone. We're meant to finish on the 22nd which is really close to the Christmas bubble window.

WouldBeGood · 02/12/2020 16:14

I was thinking on another thread that If schools do shut to pupils then they’d be ideal venues for mass vaccinations?

Bikingbear · 02/12/2020 16:45

We've already had the IT surveys and homework has been issued online. Trying to keep everyone in the habit of Google Classroom etc.

I can't see any schools being in after the 18th for track and trace reasons. Nor would I be surprised if the high schools esp go online on the 11th. It's more difficult to close the primaries for childcare reasons.

BBCONEANDTWO · 02/12/2020 16:45

Hello - usually lurking but love this thread.

I have a bit of a serious question regarding the vaccine.

If you haven't been vaccinated and catch COVID - could they use the vaccine on you as a 'treatment'. Just wondered if this were possible if anyone knows?

Thanks.

Bikingbear · 02/12/2020 16:47

Would be good that's a fair point about schools being used for vaccine centres, schools, sports centres, could also be used and village halls.
