This is an ongoing thread for Scottish mumsnetters - or indeed non Scottish mumsnetters such as myself, to comment on ongoing covid matters pertinent to ourselves, in a hopefully not too partisan and friendly fashion.

That's a perfect description. It reminds me of Salmond in his tartan trews on one of his jollies to the US I think. I don't like slagging people off for their physical attributes but he did so look like humpty dumpty.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/11/2020 23:15

I think they're veering (in some ways) too far towards modern leftyism for a party that used to be known as the tartan tories and which is still in reality a very broad church. It's one possible positive of independence - it might well kill off the snp as a party as little else seems to bind yhem or their voters imo

I had the pleasure of sharing a fairly small plane with Salmond and entourage flying from Dublin to Edinburgh. One of his travelling companions was in full clan chieftain getup. Looked fucking ridiculous

My Dss had saltire rugby shirts when they were about 6/7. I loved them at the time as I could spot them for miles. I hate looking at the photos of them in them now as I'm ashamed what my countries flag now represents since it's been hijacked.

I don't want to feel like that. I understand why people want change and i have felt similarly when I was young (thatcher years teenager) but not under current circumstances when it feels bullied and disenfranchises people.

anon444877 · 25/11/2020 06:24

Yes tempting - live in a constituency gifted to the snp every single election due to the equal split of votes for lab and con.

They 'win' my constituency (WM) by about the percentage of Scots voting for brexit.

Frankly I wish I could time travel to less divided times, mostly I'd like not to have to worry for people voting for huge changes that have the potential to wreck things.

Placemarking and following.

I'm the outcast in England with my entire family on the West coast or in Glasgow. We had planned to drive up for Hogmanay and stay a few days - guessing I need a new plan!

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 08:08

Hi @JorisBonson you could swathe yourself in plaid and steal across the border by night..! Keep an eye it for Ian Blackford gunning for your filthy English germs

titsbumfannythelot · 25/11/2020 08:37

Just hide your camera and you'll be 👌🏻

This made me laugh! I may roll across the border in a camo sleeping bag
anon444877 · 25/11/2020 09:09

Presumably as you're not resident in Scotland, you can't be arrested for travelling here joris?

JorisBonson · 25/11/2020 10:40

I'm not sure @anon444877, the rules really baffle me!

anon444877 · 25/11/2020 11:05

I was mulling it over - it's illegal to travel to a lower tier in Scotland but it beats me if you can get carted off as a non Scottish resident for the initial travel in.

Obviously if you went to another lower tier whilst here, you could face jail.

Fancy being in the papers? So confusing. I'm hoping for tier 2 and a nice simple trip abroad!

JorisBonson · 25/11/2020 11:52

@anon444877 exactly what's putting me off. I don't fancy a night in the jail.

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 12:21

Just have your excuses ready, so many of the exceptions are woolly and immeasurable. That it will almost be impossible to convict anyone. A bit like DS having a t-shirt "Santa, Define good...Confused"

We are at a stage where MH is recognized as important. How can anyone argue with "l was feeling vulnerable, depressed loosing will to live, missing my family, not seen anyone for months" etc etc

Can you imagine a judge - sorry you weren't depressed enough or not vulnerable etc?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 25/11/2020 12:23

I think it's all rather moot anyway, since there's nothing at all that suggests the travel 'bans' are being enforced in any meaningful way. You're not going to end up in front of a judge unless you are first of all arrested and charged, and since that isn't happening...

Bikingbear · 25/11/2020 12:32

Even the police won't enforce them. They have better things to do. Like find the ever expanding bubbles and break up massive parties.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 12:43

I suspect at some point they'll get one area to stick some police out checking why people are travelling just to scare folk. As bikingbear says, just have your excuse ready. I'm going in to Edinburgh to buy a bra, personally. Nowhere sells fucking jj/k cups in East Lothian and you wanna start a discussion about whether a bra is essential officer??

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 12:51

@StatisticallyChallenged if I whip mine off they’ll quickly realise that it is essential 😂 That's if they can still breathe once they’re unleashed

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 12:52

Do we have actual Scottish rules yet? For Christmas?

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 12:53

Likewise @WouldBeGood. I'll whip it off and do star jumps Grin

WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 12:54

😂😂

runningpink · 25/11/2020 13:08

Do we have actual Scottish rules yet? For Christmas?
BBC website says we will get details tomorrow.
WouldBeGood · 25/11/2020 13:09

Cheers

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/11/2020 13:21

Scottish rules:

If you are resident in a tier 4 area you may accept guests from a tier 3 area, but not from a tier 1 or 2. If you are from a tier 3 area you may visit tier 2, but only if you wear a tartan mask. Tier 1 and 2 may visit each other but must not transit through a T4 area. This may mean sailing out in to the Irish Sea. For the purposes of transit, all water within 1/2 mile of land in a T4 area counts as T4, so no sailing up the Clyde. Dirty Englanders must not cross the border in a vehicle as they're not allowed on Scottish land, but we can't stop you flying in. Once you fly in you can be collected from the airport by someone who lives in that tier but they must not fly out cos that's naughty, and nobody from outside that tier can come and collect you because it's not essential. No using public transport to get to other people if you live in T4. No drinking, snogging or shagging - and that includes the sheep Fifers! Households within the christmas bauble must still maintain 2m distances and must not share utensils, dishes etc so bring yer own gravy boat

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/11/2020 13:22

I thought the whole point was that there wouldn't be "Scottish rules"? Or does that mean a confirmation of what will happen to outside of the (UK wide?) measures already announced?

Just looked at headlines and apparently NS has said she can't do this alone (granted!) and that's why we are being treated like adults...Hmm
