Bringing in some light

It's hard for everyone right now, by varying degrees granted, and sometimes it's nice to blether. I'd like a thread that doesn't turn into political debate. A Chat if you like with a Scottish perspective that has a gentler vibe. I admire the posters with strong political views, knowledge, interests and thick skins - qualities I lack. But it's not for everyone.

My fig and blackberry candle is lit and my nice coloured gin bottles have wee LED lights in. I feel refreshed after my two week hols but worried about the term to come. Come share what you're doing to bring in some light, your wee treats, autumn booze concoctions or just blether.

@C0NNIE

What is wrong with all you people taking down your Christmas decorations??? It’s not even 12th night yet ( unless you’re an Anglican / Episcopalian).

I’m leaving mine up to get me through the rest of this week. No it’s not lockdown or even the Oreo cookie milkshakes - it’s helping Ds1 ( AKA the worlds most annoying and ungrateful teenager) with his Higher English persuasive essay.

Fortunately I have wine from @prettybird and notes from @lidlfix as I’m rapidly losing the will to live. Why did no one tell me that teenage boys were like this??? My two DD just got on with their school work and asked for help when they were stuck.

Aaargggh

I only lasted 2 weeks with my tree. Sorry. I was severely lacking Christmas spirit in 2020. Even the wee ones at work didn't help.

I'm having a very lazy day today. I did my work teams meeting. Going to have a baked potato with tuna and red onion for lunch and a bit of salad. Then I'm thinking a bath before binging something on tv.

Tree about to exit the window and where it landed (for some reason, can't post the video of it mid flight) HmmXmas Grin

That's funny, does it always fit out the window Grin

prettybird · 07/01/2021 00:33

The joy of having a big sash window that can either go up or swing inwards Xmas Grin

....even the brute that we got one year that needed a Shogun on one side of the netting machine and a tractor on the other (because it got stuck Xmas Shock) to pull it through the betting machine went out the window Xmas Smile Some years it gets a bit close to downstairs' window though Xmas Blush

That’s genius Pretty Xmas Grin

Weirdly, I’m feeling more festive now than last week when the tree was still up- left the white twinkly lights wrapped around the banister and on the windowsill, it’s just started snowing (quite full on alreadyShock) so all I need now is to sit at the window hugging a mug and I’m a seasonal Athena poster

ssd · 07/01/2021 07:53

I think you've done really well not to have done any damage throwing a tree out the window @prettybird Grin

I like that we're keeping the lights up, my tree is still up and I want it to stay up but I know its daft. I was inspired to buy some twigs or a small tree thingy from somewhere like IKEA but its shut so am resistant to let dh take the tree down. This weekend I know it'll have to go...Sad

Meant to say @prettybird , your house is gorgeous, I love those traditional newlands / pollockshields houses

FlippingBottleFlippers · 07/01/2021 12:42

First day back at work, nature has done a wonderful job of keeping my younger DC occupied by providing a light dusting of snow. I have lit a fancy candle in my home "office" to make it feel homely and cosy. Little things to make me smile.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/01/2021 14:09

I've taken decorations down except for minimalist twig tree, booked a chippy for dinner as a distraction and will wait and see if anything is noticed or said. Booze mountain remains under the tree awaiting the identification of an appropriate location to move to.

C0NNIE · 08/01/2021 22:17

We have enough snow today to sledge. I ❤️ snow, especially when I don’t have to get to work / school.

Beautiful.

Have you taken your trees down yet? Xmas Wink

Here's the large duck in Maxwell Park not needing fed Xmas Grin Not sure where the actual ducks have gone - I suspect into more sheltered local gardens, with the pond completely frozen over.

C0NNIE · 08/01/2021 23:40

I confess that all my trees are still up. They look so pretty with the snow.

C0NNIE · 08/01/2021 23:47

Maybe the ducks have gone to a larger pond that’s not frozen, as they will be vulnerable to predators.

Did you see that a swan got stuck in the ice on Hogganfield Loch a few days ago? Two fire fighters swam out and rescued it. 🏅
