Bringing in some light

It's hard for everyone right now, by varying degrees granted, and sometimes it's nice to blether. I'd like a thread that doesn't turn into political debate. A Chat if you like with a Scottish perspective that has a gentler vibe. I admire the posters with strong political views, knowledge, interests and thick skins - qualities I lack. But it's not for everyone.

My fig and blackberry candle is lit and my nice coloured gin bottles have wee LED lights in. I feel refreshed after my two week hols but worried about the term to come. Come share what you're doing to bring in some light, your wee treats, autumn booze concoctions or just blether.

I'm toying with not taking down minimalist christmas twig - that would be okay wouldn't it? Twiggy shedding some nice soft light over the booze mountain that is still stashed under it? I'll take down the other bits and take the wee bells and stuff I hung on it. I've suggested that before but DH always made a face. I'm thinking of just leaving it and hoping he doesn't notice - or just make a face back...

I'm happy to do dry january, I actually don't drink very much tbh. Despite some ups and downs and pauses, without any really effort and certainly not because of exercise, i've lost 18 pounds since May. I'd like to lose another 20 but think i'll need to start making an effort rather than relying on loss of appetite due to penicillin reaction :o

We won’t take the tree down until Wednesday, although I am getting slightly sick of the light up rudolf outside Xmas Hmm

I usually leave a few lights up through the dark months though. Everyone needs a bit of sparkle.

Wax - If you have a surplus of either just leave them under a bench in King's Park Cold War style .

Impressed with the weight loss I have gained and have a great plans for addressing this- once all festive goodies are devoured.

Oh I have neither but I do have two tubs of celebrations, a tub of sainsburys version of quality street and a tub of quality street, 2 boxes of Thorntons, a big box of bendix mints and a box of after eights and a fuckton of Tony Chocoloney bars. I've eaten the Lindors.

Loving the King's park rendevous.

Re weight, i'd lost a lot for summer 2018, but unfortunately put it all (plus more) back on again and ended up 23lbs heavier than I was before I started. I'm still heavier than I was when I started last time. Another 20 pounds feels doable but I'd like something to look forward to in the summer. In my 50s, i don't need to be thin thin, i just want to feel better and maybe get into size 12 stuff I have. It's hard when there is so much about to munch on.

I think my salvation this time has been cheap packs of ice lollies, very little calories but a nice we refresh to keep your snacky urges busy.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 20:10

I'd only lost 10lbs by November, but illness and lack of appetite and an extra body home to deal with my cooking excesses have helped over the last month :o

ssd · 04/01/2021 20:12

I'm trying to figure out how to make my living room all warm and cozy once the tree comes down tomorrow, but I'm failing miserably.
I got a Himalayan salt lamp for xmas, it's very warming but I need twiggy fairy lights too..but am too mean to buy them Blush

ssd · 04/01/2021 20:14

My cupboards sound like yours wax.

ladylunchalot · 04/01/2021 20:15

Not long finished my taekwondo class on zoom....... currently can't feel my legs. Serves me right for not doing much in the last few weeks Grin

ssd · 04/01/2021 20:39

Ohh I like that but not sure if it would be too big in here. Great price though. I think I'd like a big glass vase with lighty twigs in it and a pillar candle beside it. I've got a wee corner table it could sit on.

But I'm all talk, I'll buy eff all. If it was for the boys I'd buy it in a heart beat but I never treat myself.

ssd · 04/01/2021 20:40

Typical mammy really

C0NNIE · 04/01/2021 21:18

I hate hate HATE taking down the Christmas decorations as the house looks so cold and bare without them

Even DH suggested keeping them up a bit longer😮

So I’m thinking of taking down the trees but leaving up the garlands on the fireplace. And the banisters. And around the living room door.

And the wreathes with candles. Because they are just winter decorations and it’s defo still winter.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 21:27

They did a 12 inch version too @ssd but you are right, we are all the same when it comes to treating ourselves.

You'll sit and hum and haw over £5 for a new pair of pants but happily splash £150 on a new computer keyboard for one of DSs

C0NNIE · 04/01/2021 21:33

BTW you lot need to keep quiet about your lights n twigs in jars shit or we will have the judgey fuckers from the rest of MN over to tell us how tasteless we are. Which is true of course but it’s either the lights or more alcohol / chocolate and I’ve already put on a stone.

It’s going to be a long long January WFH AND Dh WFH AND trying to home school two of the rudest, more truculent and entitled teenagers in the country.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 21:37

You definitely need twinkly shit to counteract that lot @C0NNIE

I don't care if it's tasteless, I've got a bog brush (3 actually) and probably many more things I'm not supposed to.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 21:40

And i've just seen you can get lit trees that look like cherry blossom - that's me sorted for when Christmas twig tree has to go - i mean, who could object to a cherry blossom light tree?

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 22:06

in other news, does anyone have any idea how we've gone through 18 pints of milk since Saturday lunchtime? It's usually around 5 pints a day but we seemed to have excelled ourselves this weekend. I didn't use any for cooking.

ssd · 04/01/2021 22:08

Protein shakes Grin

ssd · 04/01/2021 22:09

You need to buy a coo Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 22:11

protein shakes will be DH and also he has cereal twice a day, I think boys just drinking it, coo would be the best idea i think.

WaxOnFeckOff · 04/01/2021 22:14

although DH usually only has the shake when he is training and he's not done much due to sore back.

It'll definitely be the White Russians
C0NNIE · 04/01/2021 23:03

Sorry about the milk, that was my horrible teens making Oreo milk shakes. And hot chocolate with marshmallows and squooshy cream. And bowls of cereal at 2am.

Can I just check @WaxOnFeckOff - you have three twinkly bog brushes ???
