As far as i can see the spread started in Glasgow then spread to the areas around it.
NS failed to sanction them properly.
She locked Aberdeen at 82 cases.

Cases in Grampian and the Highlands are low. We are now being unfairly sanctioned. The whole thing is a joke.

NS doesn't have the guts to fully lockdown Glasgow.

Ppl in Aberdeen have less trust in NS as this goes on.

If you have so much insight, you need to display it.

Arkadia · 25/09/2020 18:11

Indeed you must. We are lucky to get so much in such a small space.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 25/09/2020 18:11

The students thought there would sufficient testing available. There obviously wasn’t. They thought they would be going to study in person. They are not. I think the point here is if testing couldn’t cope, they should have let the students study from home if that’s what they were going to ultimately be asked to do. It costs a lot of money in rent that wasn’t necessarily needed if it’s all online.

@WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner

I'm not trying to say I know everything, I most certainly don't.

I'm just tired of reading and the criticism about the rules when they apply to everyone. There's a whole lot I could grumble about the fact that one of my children don't receive any of the support that they had pre-covid because of covid. But I also need to accept that there's people lives at risk, people are dying. And in the grand scheme of things my child is here and as healthy as he can be.

We shielded for months and by god that was hard especially on the kids who don't have disabilities.

I have come across hard and for that I apologise but moaning about not making the pub for one weekend just p*ssed me right off when we haven't exactly had it easy!

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 25/09/2020 18:41

You are being insensitive. It’s not that I think you’re being insensitive. You are being insensitive.
I’m not going to post anymore.The problem for me is the young adults with Neurodevelopmental syndromes such as Aspergers and Tourette syndrome that many people do not understand. These young people are on their own now, and they are vulnerable.
Children with disabilities that are obvious are easy to understand and make allowances for. It’s much more difficult with hidden disability.

runningpink · 26/09/2020 07:54

Can anyone advise when the next update is? Will it be the 1st October which is the usual three weeks or will it be extended until three weeks after these current restrictions were put in place.

The last paragraph of Ruth Davidson’s rant yesterday....

“So now we have thousands of teenagers, away from home for the first time, being told they can’t leave their room. In some cases, they have to wear a face mask to go to the loo along the corridor. They can’t go home. They can’t go out. They have people monitoring their movements for compliance. They can’t break their expensive rental agreements. And for many, their lectures have moved online anyway so there’s no academic need to be away from their families, who they are not allowed to return to. They are finding out what’s going on by social media updates as the National Clinical Director and First Minister of Scotland are forced to backtrack on rules and regulations affecting every part of their life over Twitter. Like I say, a bloody mess.”

Scotslassie1 · 26/09/2020 17:00

Backtrack? The only ones backtracking.. 8 hours after Ross and Davidson put up rants re Scottish students, their party did the same to 1,700 students in Manchester alone.

Ruth Davidson rocks.

(And I'm not a Tory).

@Veterinari just seen your post, that’s interesting to know. Thank you

I agree. What a bloody nightmare. Generally I like NS but not in this instance
Scotslassie1 · 26/09/2020 21:05

Aurea you posted the exact same message in UsForThem.. or it's a coincidence..
What 'rules and regulations' are they backtracking on?

Callisto1 · 26/09/2020 21:58

Ruth Davidson can rant all she likes but her party are doing the exact same thing in England. Funny that. She is a HUGE hypocrite.
This whole student mess was so avoidable. And it's very sad because it's all about money. The unis are already in the red because there are fewer international students and they will have to sack more people or go bust if they have to make a loss on halls too. The government refuses to pick up the bill. It's really stupid when all they are doing is contributing to the virus spread that will lead to another lockdown. And that will cost even more money. That's what happens if a lazy buffoon runs the country.

Arkadia · 26/09/2020 23:07

@Callisto1, you shouldn't talk like that about Nicola. People here will get upset.

Shooglywheel · 27/09/2020 07:05

It’s now clear we cannot control this virus. I’ve thought this all along. All measures now will be like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.
Our young people have just spent nearly 6 months having to live in such a way that mental health has already been affected. Now they are being locked in whilst away from home. Can no one see the damage this will do? We are so afraid of the dreaded virus (with over a 99%survival rate) that we have totally lost sight of ALL else that make for a good quality of life, and lost sight off all other factors that make for a poor quality of life.
Can no one see this? We are storing up so much trouble for later down the line trying to stop an unstoppable thing.

Scotslassie1 · 27/09/2020 07:47

For Glasgow uni at least- the kids are having free, hot meals from the wonderful 1051 Great Western Road and rent is free for a month.

Shooglywheel · 27/09/2020 07:53

Oh, that makes it all ok then. Hmm
And what happens at the end of 2 weeks? Rinse and repeat. For how long?

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 27/09/2020 08:07

There is more to this situation than free food and rent. Their mental health is the prime concern for parents. I had a video chat with my son and I am already worried - I can see the tension.
I really hope someone from the Scottish Government is reading this and makes a sensible decision
As a pp said - we cannot contain those virus - and we are destroying the lives of our young people trying to do so.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 27/09/2020 08:36

@Shooglywheel I agree. I am becoming increasingly uneasy with the speed at which basic rights and liberties are being dismissed, and all other considerations forgotten in the name of containing this virus, which is pretty benign for most of the population as you say. Every day we’re treated to the COVID19 death count, which several weeks after the cases started to surge is still in single digits, yet told nothing of the hundreds who died of other things that day. More disturbing to me is this narrative that anyone who questions whether it’s proportionate is being stupid and/or irresponsible, and people being encouraged to turn on each other.

We now have students singled out for additional restrictions, not because they are infected but purely because they belong to that demographic, which surely must be illegal. That’s without mentioning the thousands essentially under house arrest both sides of the border, trapped in student accommodation (which in my day was certainly very basic) with people they don’t know, away from home for the first time in many cases and unable to return home for support if they are anxious or even ill. This is nothing short of barbaric. I think as society we really need to take a long hard look at ourselves and the choices we are making to protect from a virus that right isn’t doing much actual harm.

Stressedmummyof4 · 27/09/2020 08:39

@WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner

I know we had a disagreement earlier in the thread but I hope your son is ok!

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 27/09/2020 08:47

@Stressedmummyof4
Thank you. He has an underlying condition that he hides in public and he was doing incredibly well initially, but it’s all starting to go wrong with the measures now in place, and he would be better at home. But he wants to be away from home being a student, and that is the right thing for his development and maturity.
It’s very difficult.

Stressedmummyof4 · 27/09/2020 08:50

@WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner

I took a lot of what you said onboard, and after thinking a lot about my own son, I reckon I'd be feeling exactly how you are too.

I am sorry for how I came across recently.

Hope your son settles well or gets home to be with you!

WhoKnowsWhatsAroundTheCorner · 27/09/2020 09:02

Thank you! X

TheNavigator · 27/09/2020 09:09

I think the treatment of University students is a national disgrace. Imagine if NS announced over 60s weren't allowed to go out or mix this weekend? There is no way they would comply, but students are being policed like criminals. I hope they remember this when they come to vote.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2020 09:17

I can understand why, on an individual level, people would want to have measures in place to protect themselves from catching covid. But on a societal level, I think we are doing completely the wrong thing. It's no longer proportionate to the risk and indeed there are far bigger risks to human life that we are ignoring or exacerbating.
