Nivola not best pleased today, and rightly do . Any ideas on what the, restrictions will be? I know schools are being warned at LA level to prep for blended learning .
A 2 week limitation?

NS making a statement to parliament at 14:20 then a TV broadcast at 20:05.

Ecosse · 22/09/2020 11:06

Glasgow and Lanarkshire should have been locked down weeks ago- it was very clear that the vast majority of the cases were there.

A few cases in Aberdeen led to bars and restaurants being closed and travel restrictions imposed, yet people have been going in and out of Glasgow from all over for leisure.

It should not have been happening and I suspect we would not have the nationwide spread we now do if Sturgeon had been less scared of upsetting her support base in the west.

DumplingsAndStew · 22/09/2020 11:12

Does anyone know if PM's 8pm broadcast will apply to the whole UK, or if we will have our own restrictions from our FM?

Pan2 · 22/09/2020 11:15

Not really seeing that Ecosse. I can see your logic, but not how it would play out in the country. ~I think people have a greater ambition that merely to be impoverished and blame an oppressive presence for it, for ever.

Callisto1 · 22/09/2020 12:15

I think local lockdowns could work. But only if the people in the locked down areas won't go to the next area which is open to go to the pub or hairdresser. And then you have all the commuters that live rurally and work in the big cities. Maybe that is mostly central belt, but still it's difficult to manage.

Certainly north England looks pretty bad in terms of infections and I think it started of in the urban centres. Didn't stay there though sadly.

Maybe some island communities could be treated differently if they can control who uses ferries, but anywhere you can drive is imo not really safe.

FFS she's giving a speech to the nation at 8pm! FFS what an ego! She's not the prime minister or the bloody queen. Do a press release and be done with it. Political point scoring!

throwingawaymyshot · 22/09/2020 14:46

God save our gracious nippy....

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 22/09/2020 14:59

I am absolutely gutted that’s my beak away to Aberdeen to see my sister ruined then. Really needed it after working throughout in community nursing and following all the guidance. I’m really disappointed

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 15:04

Shame Alaska, could you stay in a hotel and meet up outside/in pub/for dinner instead, not the same but at least you are allowed to travel - unless I missed something.

Ecosse · 22/09/2020 15:05

And yet again today we have the vast majority of cases in Glasgow and Lanarkshire- 270 or 70% by my calculations.

These areas should have faced tougher measures weeks ago and I find it unbelievable that pubs and restaurants are remaining open in these areas.

While in regions with very few cases we now have people banned from having a friend at home.

Wbeezer · 22/09/2020 15:10

DS2 spends his weekends at his girlfriends, he's going to be difficult to live with if this goes on for too long.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 22/09/2020 15:17

@WaxOnFeckOff we actually have our own cottage booked but feels kind of pointless if we can’t actually visit each other for a week, there is 5 of us and 3 of them. Cottage hasn’t cancelled

Justmuddlingalong · 22/09/2020 15:20

Sorry, I missed some of the briefing. Are there travel distance restrictions within Scotland yet, or are they saving that for the October school holidays?

anon444877 · 22/09/2020 15:22

It says don’t book non essential travel abroad, what if it’s already booked? Hopefully the guidance will get clearer.

throwingawaymyshot · 22/09/2020 15:25

10pm curfew. what's the bloody point? I know folk of my parents generation who visit 4 pubs in a day. Typical male west of scotland drinking mentality.

Lazt · 22/09/2020 15:26

No travel restrictions at the moment. October chain break still under consideration.

Slight win for under 12s outdoors Smile

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 15:26

But then the instruction has always been don't travel abroad unless essential.

Honestly Alaska I can't tell you what to do but unless you are going from somewhere with a large outbreak, I'd go, meet outside mostly and if eating out, book a table each and mix and match. Are any of the group under 12?

DumplingsAndStew · 22/09/2020 15:27

There's no ban on travelling abroad, it's exactly what she said... if you've not booked it, please don't if it's not essential.
anon444877 · 22/09/2020 15:28

Yes so if I’ve booked (as I have) a while ago then I’m ok to go at the moment. It’s so confusing, I don’t want to break any rules!

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 15:31

I think technically it's always been the case that non essential travel abroad wasn't "allowed" but obviously lots of folk did and a blind eye was turned so you are not doing anything that thousands already have done. Presumably you are okay to isolate when you come back?

anon444877 · 22/09/2020 15:34

Wow I had no idea we still weren’t supposed to travel to countries with no quarantine - was that in phase we didn’t get to?

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 22/09/2020 15:37

@WaxOnFeckOff yes all children are under 12 so technically only 4 of us. If cottage doesn’t cancel I’m still going I think. We are rural and have had no cases for months apart from small pockets which have been squashed quickly, cases/deaths have been low throughout

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 15:41

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii I don't have under 12s so didn't pay complete attention but I think they've relaxed them somewhat from the counting? Sounds like you are good to go (and a sensible choice as well) for the moment certainly.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/09/2020 15:46

It does mean we are no longer supposed to visit terminally ill BiL who we've only seen once since he stopped isolating. We can't meet him outside as he's not able to leave his house and he is in an upstairs flat so we can't see him through the window. We might have a fuck it moment though. He isn't mixing and doesn't have that long to go (we think), they live in a village so his wife isn't exactly mixing with loads either and is obviously being careful regardless of covid. We believe we had it in March. 3 hour round trip and we can only see him for up to an hour as he gets tired so not like we will be doing it that often. Both areas of low incidence.

Bytheloch · 22/09/2020 16:05

@WaxOnFeckOff it’s incredibly difficult with relatives facing end of life. I don’t think it’s even a fuck it moment, it’s beyond that and absolutely about going to see them regardless of any rules. I have a young friend with final stage BC😞 which is being managed well enough that she can have visitors. I fully intend to visit her in October break- she is a drive away too. She has posted on social media about the forgotten ones, those who are already terminal who want to be able to choose who visits them regardless of any rules around households mixing. I’m sure a neighbour reporting visitors under those circumstances would have no support from a police officer.
