Do you think Nicola will allow holidays to Spain without quarantine?

On her next update?

Bloody hope so. I'll be checking my phone constantly tomorrow. We're due to fly to a villa in Tenerife next Wednesday. I won't be able to quarantine as I work in a hospital and I don't think my manager will allow it so we'll have to cancel.
Have you booked anything?

rookiemere · 19/07/2020 21:55

@trumpisaflump got my fingers crossed for you.

Coffeeunicorn · 19/07/2020 22:33

Is tomorrow the day she mentioned she would review the Spain quarantine rules? I can’t keep up with all the changes.

I’m hoping to go next week but won’t be able to if quarantine rules still apply.

Yes the travel review is tomorrow but she's not doing a televised briefing tomorrow so we may not find out till Tuesday.

UsernameNotValid · 19/07/2020 22:38

Probably, but I'd rather she didn't personally.

Our cases have already upped here from folk travelling around 😡

trumpisaflump · 19/07/2020 22:46

@UsernameNotValid I think the slight rise in cases is due to massively increased testing (according to Jason Leitch) and the percentage positive is still the same despite this increase in testing.

UsernameNotValid · 19/07/2020 22:52

Sorry, I meant in our area specifically.

We've had very few cases but suddenly have an (admittedly very small) cluster of holiday maker hospital admissions as we live in a relatively rural, touristy area.

rookiemere · 20/07/2020 08:00

I believe it is 20th July she was meant to provide an update on Spain, but as they seem to like to drag things out suspect it will be at the briefing tomorrow.

Unfortunately I looked at the Spanish daily infection rate - had to google as not on worldometer- and they are increasing and appear to be 1400 on 17th July.

With those numbers I can't see quarantine being removed and - much as it pains me to say it as I'd love people to go on their hard earned breaks - that's probably the right decision for now.

Coffeeunicorn · 20/07/2020 08:21

I seen the news about Spain’s numbers increasing Sad although also that it is contained mostly in the Barcelona region. We were hoping for the Canaries so still got our fingers crossed that perhaps that would be allowed.

SockYarn · 20/07/2020 08:38

Probably not. Too late for most Scottish families anyway, airlines have cancelled flights and can't just put those back with 5 minutes notice. 30th July is also less than 2 weeks before schools go back.

rookiemere · 20/07/2020 08:42

Yeah I was hoping to squeeze in a long weekend to Tenerife at the end of August- thankfully nothing booked - but restrictions usually seem to be broad brush, so I can't see splitting out low risk islands from the mainland sadly. But I could be proved wrong.

Incidentally I checked some other countries and it's a bit of an education to me that new cases are still in the high hundreds for France. They don't report on worldometer so I hadn't seen them.

I had kind of assumed that cases in the rest of Europe were really low, but that's not right.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 20/07/2020 13:06

I can't see Spain being added to the quarantine-free list tbh as cases are still rising there.

Yes, cases across lots of European countries are consistently very high, including in Germany, Spain, France, Portugal and others. Not that you'd get that impression from our media though who love scaremongering headlines about how we're all going to die and doing so much worse than everywhere else.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 20/07/2020 18:07

Apparently Spain is now on the list of exempt countries, so no quarantine required when you return. I don’t get it personally, after all the talk in the last few weeks of protecting Scotland’s progress, because cases are still rising in Spain.

Lidlfix · 20/07/2020 18:09

Restrictions to be lifted by the end of the week.

trumpisaflump · 20/07/2020 18:26

Wow. I'm really surprised! Happy as we'll get our holiday but surprised.

rookiemere · 20/07/2020 19:43

I'm delighted for those people now able to go on their Spanish holidays- olé. However the fact they're lifting the restriction as Spanish numbers rise, does make it seem very much as if it was done purely to be seen to be doing something different to England, rather than any science based approach. I suspect they've had to agree to lift quarantine otherwise the Scottish airports would be completely decimated.

trumpisaflump · 20/07/2020 19:45

I think most holiday makers will avoid the areas that have high numbers so that makes me feel slightly better. I can't imagine many people will pay to go on holiday to Barcelona at the moment.

Callisto1 · 20/07/2020 20:53

Still lifting the restrictions now when rates are rising in Spain makes no sense! No one would have batted an eyelid if Span had been on the list along with France and Italy 2 weeks ago...

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 20/07/2020 21:03

Yes, this looks very odd indeed. And not at all in step with all the talk of the last few weeks about how Scotland needed to protect itself from infected people from other countries. Spain's infections are not just high but are actually increasing, so surely if it was too dangerous to have on the list two weeks ago its even more dangerous now!

WickedGoodDoge · 21/07/2020 07:16

We’re in Mallorca right now (flew out on Sat- we were fine doing quarantine when we got back if needed).

It’s very different here. You need to wear a mask whenever you are out in public, not just in shops. Everyone seems to be complying and doing social distancing as best they can.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 25/07/2020 19:03

Travellers returning to England from Spain will have to quarantine on their return from tomorrow, following sharp rises in infections and fears of a second wave in Spain. After the inexplicable Uturn by the Scottish government, they may now have to do a full 360 and remove Spain from the quarantine-free list again. The ironic thing is, had they not changed their mind they would have looked as though they were the responsible ones. Now, having apparently ‘reassessed the evidence’ and decided that Spain was low risk (wtf? Which data were they looking at as cases have been rising sharply the last couple of weeks!) they look pretty ridiculous.

Callisto1 · 25/07/2020 19:06

Looks like England is going to impose a 14 day quarantine to travellers from Spain. This really is getting crazy!

Redglitter · 25/07/2020 19:12

Just been imposed in Scotland too
