Scottish Exam Results 2020

After hearing DD3's deep sigh and worried voice observe "this time in four weeks..." I feel it's acceptable to begin the 2020 thread.

Over the years Scotsnet regulars and visitors have given great support, advice and even (tales of blissfully unaware snoring DC) light hearted relief to each other over the years.

This year has been particularly fearful for us and our DC and I know how much I have appreciated results threads in previous years. As there are plenty of threads with political discussions and chances for posters to express concerns about what politicians/councils/ schools/ teachers are or aren't doing, can I gently ask that we keep this to topic?

I have DD3 waiting on 1 AH and 2 Highers for a conditional offer and DD4 waiting on 5 Highers - results depending she'd like to apply for Law for the end of S6.

Catching up on thread now - sassanach thanks for your reply regarding international students.

Best of luck to everyone's DC tomorrow. There will definitely be disappointments because no statistical process anywhere is capable of reflecting each individual pupil. So if your DC is disappointed I really hope we can get through to each one of them that it really is not their fault. The key thing for me is focusing on doing what I can to support my DC quickly on to their next step in life, hopefully a Uni course they enjoy. Hope everyone gets some sleep.

Aurea · 03/08/2020 22:04

Good luck everyone for results tomorrow.

Nothing for me this year. I had one S6 last year with AHs and will have another next year (S4 and Nat 5s).

I'll be rooting for you all!

Alittlewornout · 03/08/2020 22:16

Night everyone hope you all manage to get some sleep. Dd staying at her pals tonight as it's her wee sisters first SQA results day and they want to support her. They have a tradition of making pancakes on results morning. Dd is quite calm but have to admit to slight nerves myself.

NotOutYet · 03/08/2020 22:40

My DS is quite chilled still. I asked him whether he wants to look at the results (8 x Nat 5s) himself and then come and tell us, or come downstairs and read the text in front of us. He says ‘he hasn’t really given it much thought’. So I told him I’d bring him a cup of tea at just before 8 and take it from there. He really is of the mind that these exam results are ‘fakes’. If he does well though I’m sure he’ll change his tune Grin I’m just worried in case there’s any real unexpected Bs or Cs in there - he got mainly As in his Prelims but the majority were in the 70-80% region rather than high 80s/90s so he might get marke down. He really pulled his finger out and swotted like crazy over Xmas and I know he would have done even more come the real exams (plus there were 5/6/7 day gaps between some of his tougher exams and I know he would have worked so hard to revise.)

We’ll see.

So those of you that have been here before - I believe he’s signed up to the SQA for the text - does it come bang on 8 am? And do you get a email as well?

Good luck everyone!

Superjaggy · 03/08/2020 22:45

DD's text arrived at 8:02 last year

IKEA888 · 03/08/2020 22:50

I expected it to be 8am on the dot.
DDS was 7.50! last year. Her friends varied a lot up to 8.20
one of her friends didn't get a text or post!!!!

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/08/2020 22:59

One year DS1 signed up for email, it didn't arrive until about half 3 in the afternoon. Luckily postie had arrived about 10.30.

ime posties seem to be out earlier than usual on exam morning.

UCAS saying they will be on-line at 9 if that helps anyone.

One last best of luck to everyone - will hopefully see some positive messages here in the morning :)

WeAllHaveWings · 03/08/2020 23:02

I'm off to bed, WFH at 7am. Ds has told me to wake him at 10 if he isn't up 🕙 It is going to be a long morning! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Superjaggy · 03/08/2020 23:08

Oh Wings that's a long wait!

DD has asked me to go and perch on her bed from just before 8 - I'd better be there from 7:50 then Grin

Good night and good luck all!

HairyPotter · 04/08/2020 06:10

I’ve been awake since 5am and can’t get back to sleep. I remember waking up at almost the same time when it was DD1’s 6th year results. Thank goodness this is my last year! Grin

yellowroses16 · 04/08/2020 06:27

I’m awake too since 5.30 HairyPotter. This is my third year of this and have three more to go!

NotOutYet · 04/08/2020 06:34

Yup - up at 5.30 and decided to look at all the Nat 5 Grade Boundaries for last year. Still awake and wondering if I close my eyes whether I’ll actually get back to sleep. It’s 6.34 now...

IKEA888 · 04/08/2020 06:51

I went to bed around 1 and woke up a while ago.
ahhhhhh.

Sexnotgender · 04/08/2020 07:00

Well I surprisingly managed to sleep!

DDs text didn’t come until about 9 last year.

Lidlfix · 04/08/2020 07:11

Been awake since 5.30 as DH has changed role and has a longer commute so that's his new shower time. Just tried to relax and listen to the rain. Time for coffee taken back to bed Brew.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/08/2020 07:15

Been awake, trying to get back to sleep since 5ish too, up and working now (and on MN!) so hopefully that will distract me, but don't think I'm going to last until 10am if ds doesn't get up. Might try vacuuming outside his room.....

Alittlewornout · 04/08/2020 07:31

Not long ladies, you can do this! Like others dd had the text a min or 2 after 8 but ds 3 years ago post came before the text it's a bit of a lottery. Not looked at the news yet but any indication on overall results ie up or down. Think that will be interesting depending on how transparent the SQA are going to be.

IKEA888 · 04/08/2020 07:33

I had a look at news.. promised I wouldn't but couldn't see anything
finally found the letter school sent on the appeals process.. ! so have laid that out with the letter with the grades school had put forward.
I just hope it's all fair! that's all!

applesandpears33 · 04/08/2020 07:36

You are lucky you know what grades were put forward. We were not told that, which means if DS is not happy with the results we have to speak to the school to find out what was submitted.

Alittlewornout · 04/08/2020 07:41

@IKEA888 really surprised your dc knows the teachers estimates we were told these could not be given out but maybe different local authorities have different policies. Fingers crossed you can bin the appeals process letter.

IKEA888 · 04/08/2020 07:45

ah yes I did wonder about that too.
They didn't say these are the grades we've put forward they sent a letter to say these are estimated grades .

LizzieMacQueen · 04/08/2020 07:46

Probably this was pointed out upthread but do you know appeals are only against the SQA adjustment (pray to God they've not adjusted down) and not the teacher assessed ones?

So have some schools told their pupils the expected grades?

Lidlfix · 04/08/2020 07:48

Ikea not sure I am reading your post properly, did your school send out their estimated grades to the pupils in advance? How brave if they did. If my DDs' school had it could either have lead to a summer of misery or removed much of the stress.

OP posts:
Alittlewornout · 04/08/2020 07:51

Looking at the appeals you can appeal the SQA grade but you need to speak to the school to find that out. Not sure there would be much point appealing a teacher grade as that's given on the evidence they have and surely will be the evidence given to the SQA if an appeal is requested???

IKEA888 · 04/08/2020 07:52

They sent a letter after exams cancelledrs with estimated grades to say the hope was these reflected the work and assessments and abilities.
My daughter has maybe over assumed the situation!
I've spent ages saying they may be different !
