Scottish Exam Results 2020

After hearing DD3's deep sigh and worried voice observe "this time in four weeks..." I feel it's acceptable to begin the 2020 thread.

Over the years Scotsnet regulars and visitors have given great support, advice and even (tales of blissfully unaware snoring DC) light hearted relief to each other over the years.

This year has been particularly fearful for us and our DC and I know how much I have appreciated results threads in previous years. As there are plenty of threads with political discussions and chances for posters to express concerns about what politicians/councils/ schools/ teachers are or aren't doing, can I gently ask that we keep this to topic?

I have DD3 waiting on 1 AH and 2 Highers for a conditional offer and DD4 waiting on 5 Highers - results depending she'd like to apply for Law for the end of S6.

Good points @sockyarn. I plan to be mute tonight with a bottle of Viognier 😜

FluffytheGoldfish · 03/08/2020 11:43

Waiting on our last set of SQA results tomorrow for DD2. This is the most relaxed year for us! Dd2 is both bright and a slogger so should get at least AAB in her AHs and she also has an unconditional for Physics and Astrophysics at Glasgow. I also only had N4 and units only classes so not worried about my classes. If DD1 was waiting for results I would be more worried as she always did better when she had had time to bring everything together.
Good luck for everyone tomorrow..

Puffalicious · 03/08/2020 11:45

Totally Sock we should not be distilled down to what happens over a few months when we are teenagers. I'm very laid back normally I just don't want him to be disadvantaged because of the no exams year. What will be will be.

Sexnotgender · 03/08/2020 11:48

Super anxious for tomorrow. Trying to keep myself busy with work.

SockYarn · 03/08/2020 11:49

Another thread I hate though Puffalicious - they're all in the same boat. Every student in the whole of the UK who was working towards Highers or A-levels didn't sit them. Everyone's grappling with predicted grades and the mysterious internal workings of the exam boards.

I think this year, more than any other year, it's really important not to make a huge fuss over it. What will be will be. We will deal with it and make choices going forward, you can't "fix" what's in the past. Especially not when a global pandemic means all bets are off.

So be kind to your kids. They've been through an awful lot and it's stressful for them. Let's keep our stresses on here and not pass it on to them.

This x 100
You sound like a lovely Mum

emummy · 03/08/2020 13:02

Puffalicious my Dd is trying to get into medicine, she got 2 interviews and no offers despite her higher results. It is very stressful! Good luck for tomorrow all, I am working from home so will be at my desk trying to concentrate on my masters dissertation. Dd1 has signed up for texts, Dd2 for email. Hope they come early!

Puffalicious · 03/08/2020 18:03

Best of luck everyone for tomorrow.

Alittlewornout · 03/08/2020 18:16

Just catching up with everyone as out last night and working today. Wishing everyone well for tomorrow, this must be the oddest ever results day.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/08/2020 18:27

I have a question. A colleague was saying that his son had been contacted by disability services from the Uni he has as first choice, to go in for a chat about his needs (ASD) and was meant to go last week but it got moved to tomorrow due to the person he was to see being ill. He only has a conditional offer from them, should he be thinking that he's probably got in?

IKEA888 · 03/08/2020 18:40

anxiety city here!
we've been out a long walk to the beach and are planning on heading out a car run tonight.

WeAllHaveWings · 03/08/2020 18:41

Getting nervous here too.

Good luck for tomorrow everyone. Hope your dc all get what they expect (or maybe a little bit better!).

Alittlewornout · 03/08/2020 18:44

Sounds promising to me @WaxOnFeckOff but what do I know. Fingers firmly crossed for him.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/08/2020 18:49

That's what I said @Alittlewornout, I think his poor parents are more nervous than he is. I have 7 lots of 6th years in my circle, all but 1 waiting to find out if they have the space they want, and then obviously all you folks on here too. Really hoping it all goes well, which it will, regardless of the results. They are all lucky young folk with their parents wishing them on and ready to get them onto a path that suits them.

Alittlewornout · 03/08/2020 18:58

Honestly this is just awful for them all as its completely out of their hands. As you say all we can do as parents is support them and ensure they know what their school is doing re appeals.

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/08/2020 19:02

Usually when you've done the exam, you have a bit of a feel for how it's gone - they don't have that so could have anything really.

@WaxOnFeckOff he should try to visit all the disability services at each university he's applied to as some are better than others. I speak from personal experience and also as someone who has accompanied disabled pupils on disability service visits.

Strathclyde Uni disability service is v good. UWS not so much - they contacted one former student a month before the end of her 1st year Hmm Glasgow University have apparently got a visually impaired student suing them. (I did a law as part of my degree pre career guidance so I always nosey at the law news!)

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/08/2020 19:26

It's HW he wants to go to, I think he may also have applied to Stirling but no-where else.

Still having bother with Disability Services in Aberdeen with DS2, to be fair he is the biggest part of the problem but given part of his dyspraxia is about not being able to organise himself and engage with these things, it's very frustrating when they say they've emailed him and need him to contact them. Given that I know he submitted his SAAS aplication about 2 weeks before DS1 and DS1 has had his letter and I've been on at him to check his email in case they are looking for further info for over a week now and he can't bring himself to open his bloody inbox! Gahhhh! He's honestly lovely but so laid back and all he says is that yes he's going to do it but he never actually does. I think he was switched at birth, he's no son of mine! Grin

Oh, so glad that my youngest is no longer in high school and I am done with all this. I feel your pain. MInd you, he’s now lounging round the house doing nothing with his life so maybe its not so good this side of exams either.
Best of luck to you all and your DCs and remember, “no wrong path”

Ffsnosexallowed · 03/08/2020 19:53

waiting for highers results for dd. She sailed through nat 5s, but really struggled with her higher maths- we'll be thrilled if she gets a d or above, but her thoughts about doing medicine will need rethinking. Feel so anxious for her.

Groovee · 03/08/2020 19:55

Got Ds a card in Tesco as he's had nowt else the way his sister had.

I've cracked open the wine and emergency knitting.

She is hiding upstairs on the iPad, planning her next project, avoiding her pals. Everyone is nervous, and it's infectious.

And, breeeeeathe.

Puffalicious · 03/08/2020 21:33

No nerves from DS at all, he's just looking forward to the ' Results, whatever they are' party at a friend of a friend's house! I think it sounds fab.
