Just read an excerpt from her address today. I know not all of you will love her and I don’t think coronavirus has been handled perfectly, but she is an intelligent and likeable example of Scottish people, imo. I love the way she is dignified and avoids politicising everything, yet still is direct enough to comment on how ridiculous Boris can be:

Tom Gordon, from The Herald, points out that, in the prime minister's speech this morning, Boris Johnson emphasised the role of the union, calling it "an incredible partnership" that proved its worth during the pandemic. He asks what the first minister's response is considering she would like Scotland to be independent.

"Boris Johnson and I are very different kinds of people, very different personalities and I would, in a whole range of ways, choose not to emulate him and how he speaks and how he behaves and I'm sure he would choose not to emulate me in many respects," Nicola Sturgeon replies.

"I don't think you'll catch me very often leaping to the floor to do press-ups during a media interview, for example.

"In terms of the wider and future arguments about Scotland's constitutional future, people will make their own minds up on that and draw their own conclusions and part of the process they will go through is watching how the Scottish government conducts itself and how Boris Johnson conducts himself.

"My focus is on tackling this virus and any leader should have that as their central focus."

'I voted for Boris . . . Keir Starmer is looking promising . . . He got rid of RLB . . . He's ridding the party of anti-Semitism . . . The cult surrounding Jeremy Corbyn'

I'm centre-left'

😂😂😂

Course you are

But equally those folk could have been anywhere and bring infection back with them and last time I looked it was a free country - the "guidance" said not to travel further than 5 miles but it wasn't illegal to do so. I think they've overstepped the mark. Either cancel the ferry or open it with precautions.

nextslideplease · 05/07/2020 12:01

I do understand the difficulties of accessing health care in remote areas, having friends in the islands.

Its wrong to say the WI have had no cases, but I've already said that @MumofHunter doesn't bother to do proper research.

Devi has talked about quarantining English visitors repeatedly and Nicola has not ruled it out when pushed, and Devi has tweeted that unionists are 'anti scottish' only to try to claim that wasn't what she meant. So yes, there is a lot of Anti English feeling and NS is stoking it by not ruling out quarantine. She needs to sack Devi if she wants to convince us she's not anti English.

It certainly feels like a ratcheting up of tension - I was planning a visit to my favourite highlands inn but I’m shelving it for now - they’re sending welcoming emails but I don’t want to risk my kids being treated badly by locals who don’t want them there.

I was glad to see Janey Godley condemning the Berwick protestors - she’s had a lot of flak for doing that on Twitter, she’s brilliantly funny.

You can’t cancel ferries...

They’ve been running as essential travel only, people who live on the islands, are travelling to provide essential care for vulnerable relatives, key workers going both ways and cargo.

It was brought in in March to stop the people trying to spend lockdown basically on holiday.

Chickenwing · 05/07/2020 12:20

She is a fantastic leader. She really cares about the people of Scotland and she is a brilliant communicator. She also doesn't take any shit. I look forward to her running an independant Scotland.

@nextslideplease At the time they hadn't any cases. I don't think the still have such tight checks on the ferries. 👍

SoleBizzz · 05/07/2020 12:34

I thought SNP supporters couldn't get any lower - and then I get accused (when I am part german) of being anti semitic and right wing. Thank you MNHQ for stepping in. Sad

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/07/2020 13:10

I saw the post and genuinely thought it was referring to another poster (who shall remain nameless), it was still on the thread on my phone when I checked and saw it was directed to you next :(

I didn't report her and I had every right to tell anyone who accuses me of antisemitism where to go. For you to try to justify it, and say "Oh but you told her to fuck off" is appalling. You have no idea. None at all.

You excused anti-English behaviour and comments from your first minister, her advisers and supporters yet you condemn me?

anon444877 · 05/07/2020 13:24

that was in response to a previous personal attack from kitty though wasn't it @MumofHunter? Perhaps we'd better leave off this slippery slope of characterising what we think of people that vote differently to us and their motivations. After all you've also had a post deleted...

nextslideplease · 05/07/2020 13:26

I am descended from Robert the Bruce on my dad's side (as well as part Irish on his side), and I'm part German on my mums side.

In case anyone says I'm "anti scottish!".

I have more right to support independence (which I don't) and demand the blooming crown off Liz's head, than the FM and many other people in Scotland. I can even lay claim to the German monarchy if it were still around.

KittyHawke80 · 05/07/2020 13:29

I didn't accuse you of being anti-Semitic; I noted you called Corbyn anti-Semitic. So my point stands. And a lot of Labour voters voted the Brexit Party and the Tories - and I wouldn't call them left wing, either.

Extraordinary that being told to fuck off is acceptable but pointing out that someone who has got hold of the wrong end of the stick has, er, got hold of the wrong end of the stick is just peachy. I didn't actually care, but I've now reported that post.

Komacho · 05/07/2020 13:32

No one has more right to support independence because of who there ancestors were.

nextslideplease · 05/07/2020 13:38

There is documented evidence.

And MNHQ T&C allows swear words, it does not allow racism, disablism and other isms.

Labour and the SNP are too far left wing. There is not really a centrist party anymore but political commentators say that Conservatives are moving more to the centre. Maybe that's why they got so many Labour voters last year.

@KittyHawke80 I believe you use several usernames, from your style of posting. are you trying to support your own posts? You posted laughing emojis when I condemned anti semitism as if that were funny or you disagreed. Do you think Corbyn's views are acceptable?

KittyHawke80 · 05/07/2020 13:38

And for the record, I'm not an SNP supporter. I live in the SE of England, and have visited Scotland twice (the Isle of Arran and Glasgow, for quiz show: both were wonderful experiences). NS is exponentially better than the shower we have, certainly in terms of giving coherent press conferences - Boris Johnson is a buffoon and racist, so if you voted for him, you must accept you voted for that sort of 'man' - but I hold no particular brief for her. 'Didn't think SNP supporters could get any lower' 'Fuck right off' - yep, you're definitely getting the better of this exchange 😂

KittyHawke80 · 05/07/2020 13:40

I only have one username. Nice try.

I do, yes. Because he's anti-racist, pro-Palestine and not anti-Semitic. Next?

nextslideplease · 05/07/2020 13:43

@Komacho

No one has more right to support independence because of who there ancestors were.
I don't support independence.

To clarify - what I meant was that I could say that if I wanted. I know another branch of the Bruce tree are certainly using it.

What about the fact that independence voters are laying claim to the Saltire? Does independence support give them more right to use it?

Its our flag too.

I've reported the whole thread. Its horrible and its proving my argument about SNP supporters 100%.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/07/2020 13:44

Kitty then will all due respect (i.e.none) you don't really have a clue about what it's like actually living in Scotland under this shower of gobshites

So whilst I think everyone should be welcome to post wherever they like as long as it's within the rules, I think you need to qualify your position as being pretty irrelevant. If all we were going on was someones appearances on tv then we might all think that any number of discredited celebrities were fab...

I've noted quite a few English people be fans of NS which I do find interesting to be honest and probably goes with what many of us have said earlier about her being an effective communicator but it's all a front and living with it is vastly different to listening to it I can assure you.

KittyHawke80 · 05/07/2020 13:49

Yeah; I haven't commented on the situation in Scotland, though? I was responding to the comments about Johnson, Corbyn and Starmer.

nextslideplease · 05/07/2020 13:49

He supports terrorists? calls them his friends. Slow to act on anti semitism compared to Starmer.

But this is a thread about NS and whether or not she's doing a good job (she isn't but neither is Boris, hence why I said I'm paying attention to Starmer)
