Airbridges - will Scotland have separate rules?

If air bridges are agreed with some countries, does anyone know if that's for whole of UK or would Scotland be able to do something different regarding quarantine?
I get confused as to what Scotland has control over versus what's centrally decided.

For those of you saying Nicola is just deliberately waiting a couple of weeks the copying Westminster... Wales is the same as Scotland, and we are very happy about the way it is being done.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 08:38

Bumblebeen when you say "we" in Wales are very happy, do you think you are talking for all the people in Wales? I know some people in Scotland are very happy with the pace of change, doesn't mean that the whole population is.

She needs to make the position clear, there's hardly any time left to plan something. I'm well fucked off with this now.

Murraygoldberg · 05/07/2020 10:36

I don't understand why they can't announce their own plans, instead of the nonscence they are spouting about not having enough time, everyone and their dog knew this was coming

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 05/07/2020 10:49

Exactly, this has been on the cards for weeks or even months, so if they thought they might diverge, why not make your own assessment, then when the U.K. government release their list compare notes? Instead it looks as though they’ve just waited until the U.K. did all the leg work then expect everyone to sit on their hands for weeks while they ‘assess’ it, and have been rudely awakened when the U.K. government refused to work to their timescales.

Sorry, no I meant 'we' as in my family and friends i.e. everyone I have spoken to about this. I can't speak for all the people in Wales!
hellsbells99 · 05/07/2020 11:28

Bumblebeen I live in England close to the North Wales border. I have relatives and friends living in Wales and most are ignoring the rules in Wales. Just looking at Instagram, I can see several were in English pubs last night. We have not been able to drive and see my Sister-in-law, but she has been over to see us without a problem (coffee in the garden).

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 11:30

The UK government did even delay release of the announcement to 10th July to give them enough time to consider. Then they threw their toys out of the pram about being invited to a meeting at short notice Hmm.

A possible cautious response would be to agree no quarantine for green countries only. There's any number of compromise agreements. But I think they may be snookered as huge issue for airports and holiday companies if Scottish holiday makers can just drive the couple of hours to Newcastle and fly from there.

Babdock. England is right in the shit if Scotland gains independence. So easy to forget that Scotland contribute more money to the UK than they get back from Westminster.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 12:47

I think the longer she keeps us locked up the less likely independence becomes.

Arkadia · 05/07/2020 13:05

@Mascotte, there again, in today's times they report a poll according to which she and independence are riding high.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 13:15

Dunno. I reckon the acolytes will keep voting for them but the school thing had awakened unprecedented protest. And this holiday shite won't help. It's also really difficult to say publicly you don't support them or you're called a Tory loving English loving traitor. I'm not a Tory btw. Anyway. I digress, I just want to know if I can go on a fucking holiday.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/07/2020 13:26

If I was polled and asked what my voting intentions were, i'm note sure i'd be honest anyway, I'd happily mess about and say I was in favour and then vote no, i'm sure no-one checks afterwards or that you are tied to what you say in anyway shape or form.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 05/07/2020 13:30

Support has dipped above 50% before, usually at peak times of division like just after the Brexit vote, but common sense has always kicked in once heads cool a bit. After all none of the big questions have answers as yet, and the growth commission report that was supposed to give a credible financial plan wasn’t that encouraging. If it’s sustained over many months and gains over 60% support I’ll take it seriously. She’s doing a good job right now of portraying England as an out of control basket case that Scotland needs to protect itself from, but the elections are almost a year away. Enough time perhaps for it to become apparent that there aren’t massive second waves of infection throughout England, and that England doesn’t disappear into an economic abyss.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 14:57

Redoasis I've not heard before that Scotland gives more money to Westminster than it gets. Do you have any articles you could point me too about this ? Honestly not being snarky - I used to be very anti Scottish independence, but I'm now fairly ambivalent as we intend to move when we retire - and I have said I would vote for SNP if it stacked up economically.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/07/2020 15:27

Rookie, i'm sure that's been claimed and debunked before but I await evidence with interest.

"just because UKG is dropping inbound quarantine, doesn't mean destinations have agreed to accept UK passengers without restrictions/quarantine."

I thought travel corridors were reciprocal?

I'm in Wales too and generally happy. If anything, I think our Government is copying England too much with certain things like opening the pubs (next week for us). I'd say that most people in Wales are satisfied with a more cautious approach. Being 'happy' about it is a different matter of course - many of us find lockdown hard but necessary. Having seen photos from Bournemouth and then Soho last night, I don't think England is any kind of example to follow.

They're not reciprocal.
Gwenhwyfar · 05/07/2020 15:40

Damn. I booked my ticket thinking they were. Need to check the other country's website then.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 05/07/2020 15:43

@rookiemere full fact looked at the revenue question in 2017 as it’s repeatedly been claimed by Nationalists that Scotland subsidises Westminster. I’m sure there are more recent pieces, I was just looking for something apolitical, but essentially, Scotland revenue versus spending has fluctuated over the years, sometimes putting more in than they got back, but in recent years we’ve been getting more out than we put in. This was exacerbated after the oil crash, but was generally the case anyway. I don’t know the figures after furlough, but I suspect given our higher reliance on tourism and hospitality sectors that we’re also heavily reliant on that scheme too.

notimagain · 05/07/2020 18:31

I thought travel corridors were reciprocal?

'Fraid not, Nope, you really need to keep up with the terminology..Smile

It was all "air bridges"Wink this and "air bridges" that when HMG thought they were going to be the saviour of European tourism and it was going to be the easiest thing in the world to insist on them being reciprocal...

Since reality set in they seem to have quietly morphed into non-reciprocal "travel corridors"...Hmm

Anything called the weebluebook just screams academic, intellectual, economic rigour.
I’ll not be clicking on your wee link, thanks.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 19:31

Why are the SNP so fucking couthy? It did my head in.
