Anyone know about nurseries

Has anyone heard anything about when regular nurseries might reopen for non key workers?

I know the schools are on 11 August, wondering if nurseries will be around the same time.

In phase 3 but no date was given other than a vague 'over the summer' comment.

Invisimamma · 10/06/2020 22:49

My colleague said her private nursery is intending to open for preschoolers in Aug, but won't be taking babies until October Shock.

Chocolategirl19791 · 10/06/2020 22:59

Ours will release more information once they receive guidance being published by government and care inspectorate which. Is due out on 15th June so next week.
We had a survey from nursery this week about whether we'd send our kids back, what would and us feel comfortable, what sessions we'd want, etc

I have my fingers crossed for mid July maybe. Working from home with kids around is hell so the sooner the better for us

TitianaTitsling · 10/06/2020 23:01

Bloody blended learning is on the rude word list in this house.

TitianaTitsling · 10/06/2020 23:02

I still don't know what the fear is.. is it kids are dirty, germ ridden super spreaders? Or have they suddenly become a high risk group?

Chocolategirl19791 · 10/06/2020 23:11

@TitianaTitsling who knows. The evidence points to kids not being affected (mine is statistically much more likely to die in the 20min drive there and back) and potentially not being super spreaders either. Yes there is a risk but to me the screwing up of their mental health and development is so much worse I'll take the risk.
Soon we'll be able to go to shops and pubs but they still can't go nursery. Makes no sense to me.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 10/06/2020 23:14

It makes absolutely no sense at all. Preschoolers are essentially unaffected by the virus, don't really spread it, and the modelling shows very little effect on the R number by letting them go back. It seems lazy in the extreme to lump all children together in the way they are doing. I have written to my MSP asking for the rationale, but have got nowhere.

Mid July sounds good, October for babies though sounds 😱

Has anyone heard if parents can go in for settling in?

TheMurk · 12/06/2020 23:23

If it’s October for babies I will lose my job and it’s as simple as that.

Fucking joke situation.

Groovee · 13/06/2020 15:42

Guidance is released on Monday. Quite a number of my friends will spend the first few days reading the guidance then working with their teams to work out how to put that guidance into action regarding their setting. I know most hope to have an idea before the schools finish.

SamSeabornforPresident · 13/06/2020 15:47

The settling thing concerns me. My 1yo has never been in nursery, and barely gone a day without me, so will need proper settling, and the older one is pretty timid so may well need some settling back too. It's utter shite that they've been given no official guidance yet.

Musicalmistress · 13/06/2020 15:54

Scot Gov are releasing further guidance for early learning/nurseries on Monday, 15th. So there should be more infor then.

MumofHunter · 13/06/2020 17:36

Thanks Grovee

Same here Sam. Let's hope it 's good news re settling in, my nursery just confirmed there 's no social distancing for under 5s so hopefully we can go in for settling in.

inthethickofit19 · 14/06/2020 20:14

Thanks for the thread OP, interested to look out for the guidance tomorrow

TheMurk · 14/06/2020 21:21

I don’t have high hopes going by the rest of the Scottish govt’s strategies so far...

MissRabbitIsExhausted · 14/06/2020 21:24

Yep my nursery has advised stage 3 too, at the moment I'm thinking it'll probably be the same time as schools.

Quackersandcheese3 · 14/06/2020 21:30

I called the nursery the other day and wasn’t able to get a clear answer.

TheMurk · 14/06/2020 21:37

Our nursery doesn’t know either. Said they were waiting for this information being published tomorrow.

I worry that ours simply won’t reopen as it’s a small private nursery that already had money problemS before lockdown.

babysnowman · 14/06/2020 22:41

Hopefully we can at least get a good idea of dates tomorrow, the uncertainty is driving me mad

Does anyone know if the guidance for nurseries published today is available for the public to read? I can't find it.

mybowelshatepregnancy · 15/06/2020 12:38

@CaptainMerica it probably won't be published til last minute

babysnowman · 15/06/2020 14:00

Thanks @mybowelshatepregnancy, off to read
