Anyone know about nurseries

Has anyone heard anything about when regular nurseries might reopen for non key workers?

I know the schools are on 11 August, wondering if nurseries will be around the same time.

@Ecthelion thanks for sharing

This is a bit long, but what I received from nursery today. I thought it was actually pretty decent communication, especially compared to what we've had on schools.

You may be aware that private nurseries reopening to a wider group of children has been planned for Stage 3, and it has been mentioned this could take place before the schools will be returning. By my calculations, we will not be advancing into Stage 3 any time before 9 July, which will be the next review of lock down procedures.

I would hope that we would get some advance warning, but things change very quickly so we may not get that much time. The most challenging scenario is that we will not be able to re-open before 11 August, which is when schools are scheduled to re-open.

There are some things which will definitely take place before we are in a position to re-open.

  1. The entire nursery will be deep cleaned before re-opening
  2. Our staff team will need to go through an induction process so we are able to talk to them about the changes necessary to operate during COVID and to have discussions with all of them about how they feel about returning and their ability to do so.
  3. I will create a SurveyMonkey to send out to parents to ask them about their needs for us re-opening and what concerns there are, so we can take all of this into consideration when we make our plans. The link for this will be published on our Facebook page and sent out through Nursery In A Box
  4. Our playrooms and outdoor spaces will need to be re-organised to accommodate the new rules and restrictions.
  5. All of our resources will need to be cleaned and separated into groups.

As I am sure you will appreciate, this will take some time and there will be many other things to do as well.

I want to reassure you that we have learned a lot from continuing to care for children during this crisis and our team are dedicated to making the return to nursery as safe, smooth and as much fun as possible. Things will look different and be different and we are prepared for children to be both hugely excited at returning and also to find it very difficult after being away for so long and in such different circumstances. We will do everything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible for each individual child and their family.

We were contacted yesterday to ask if we wanted 2 days/week from 20 July, either M/T or W/Th. Not guaranteed, and nothing for under 3s. We meet the first two of the three priority criteria (30 hours funding, both parents working, child about to start P1), so fingers crossed. Will find out next week.

Our private nursery is opening to all from mid
July apparently but still no idea what it means in terms of the 600 hours funding. I have a 3 year old who was due to get the 1140 hours and a 1 year old who was due to start just as we went into lockdown

Our council is now only offering 600 hours
TheMShip · 04/07/2020 07:48

They're all going down to 600, even those who were getting the 1140 as a pilot.

floppystrawhat · 04/07/2020 09:58

@TheMShip Any indication of whether that is temporary? Mine is only 14 months but still curious.

TheMShip · 04/07/2020 10:31

@floppystrawhat I don't know. I suspect it's "temporary", as in they'll push it back as long as politically feasible since it's both expensive and was already hard for cash strapped childcare providers who are going to be struggling even more after lockdown.

Musicalmistress · 09/07/2020 10:10

@TheMShip not all - some authorities are pushing on with 1140 plans, outs has put them on hold temporarily but we were already offering most children 1000 hours.

TheMShip · 09/07/2020 13:37

@Musicalmistress that's really good to know. I'm not sure what's happening with our nursery. We were all on 1140 before lockdown as the nursery was an early adopter and had been in the pilot. I'm just very very cynical about these things!

According to this www.gov.scot/publications/letter-to-directors-of-education-elc-la-leads/

All nurseries are to revert back to 600 hours. Great timing.

According to the bbc Angus/Argyll and Bute/ Dumfries and Galloway/East Renfrewshire/Inverclyde and North Lanarkshire will continue on 1140.

lockdownparty · 09/07/2020 20:04

East Dunbartonshire have said we'll get 750 hours
