Are you happy?

We've gone from SNP to Tory by a massive 10,000 votes. i voted Tory for the first time to out SNP. I have no interest in indyref2. I had to vote tactically and I think 10,000 others may have done the same.

Nyx all feeling a bit sore now? Yes?

My DH is dancing around the house because as he sees it, a proud Scot from an entirely Scottish family (until me!) he has got his saltire back.

How dare the SNP present themselves as the only party that cares about Scotland. How dare they take the flag and try to present being Scottish as synonymous with voting SNP.

  1. Referendum. You lost. So stop trying to get another vote and start sorting our Education and the NHS.
FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 11:42

So nasty.

And i voted Labour.

Get a grip.

Nyx · 11/06/2017 11:47

You've just illustrated my point Hamlet Smile

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 11:48

The indyref2 was to be after terms of Brexit agrees.

I think it was fair enough.

Its not like like the were invoking obligatory independence

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 11:49

I know several people who would consider a yes vote if Brexit went through with no deal

HamletsSister · 11/06/2017 11:54

And I know several people who voted Yes in 2014 and then Leave.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 11:56

So..people should have a choice. Are you antidemocracy?

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 11:57

Brexit is a huge deal and Scotland mostly voted against it.

HamletsSister · 11/06/2017 12:12

But having already voted to stay in the U.K. for the purposes of the EU referendum, that was irrelevant. Nicola tried to spin it as relevant and her bluff was called by the electorate.

Try to put yourself in the other side's shoes. No voters voted to remain in the U.K. In a divisive referendum which was supposed to be "for a generation" only to be told that 2014 no longer counted

Honestly, she might have spun the idea that it was the EU referendum that was the game-changer. But, in, my opinion, the SNP would have demanded another vote for any number of reasons. Midges too bad? Not liking the Westminster government? Not liking policies on Education in England that have nothing to do with here.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 12:14

To me and people I know it may well be a gamechanger.

FinallyThroughTheRoof · 11/06/2017 12:15

Therr is no "other side"

I have never voted SNP and was somewhat undecided in 2014.

HamletsSister · 11/06/2017 12:18

The Yes voters were the other side.

HamletsSister · 11/06/2017 12:19

In a way, that is the sad thing. That politics are so binary. That, instead of tackling policy politicians are all attacking each other and, by extension, their supporters do the same.

NoLotteryWinYet · 11/06/2017 12:52

I just keep coming back to us all needing proportional representation - parties need to compromise with each other and compromise over some of their more alienating policies.

Calyx72 · 12/06/2017 21:12

Anyone but SNP eh. FFS.

SNP still got more seats than all the other parties combined and I think a Scottish government with a mix of parties will govern better until we do become independent (after the Brexit car crash becomes clear)

What was your election result?
flippinada · 13/06/2017 09:40

Yes, how dare people not vote for the SNP. If only the electorate would do as they were told.

Arkadia · 13/06/2017 10:00

Calyx72, not to be pernickety, but TM got more seats than all the other parties combined too and with a share of the vote of over 42%, compared to 36% of the SNP. So reasoning the way you do, TM has even more of a mandate to continue as she was doing before the elections given that she won them and now she has a CLEAR mandate.
Even more so due to the Tory resurgence in Scotland where they are the second party now, so no more claims that there are no tories in other parts of the UK.

Calyx72 · 13/06/2017 11:18

A lot of Scottish Tory votes were tactical to oust the SNP. At least that's what I'm telling myself. Tory policies are not good for Scotland while labour policies are almost identical to the SNP's policies.

If someone in Scotland voted Tory for their policies they are either quite rich and an 'I'm all right jack' or they don't know what's going to hit them.

Arkadia · 13/06/2017 11:22

All the same... If so many people voted to oust the SNP, i.e. anyone BUT the SNP, what does that tell you?
In any case, TM still has more seats than all the others combined and 42% of the vote. How come this only applies to NS?

mayoli · 13/06/2017 11:24

In a Glasgow area, we kept SNP. Labour almost got in though by less than 100 votes! I did vote SNP but now really, really, really regret it, especially as my SNP mp is brilliant and my Labour one not so much. My vote was tactical to keep out Tories as I honestly didn't think Glasgow would even nearly vote in Labour again- god I was wrong!

mayoli · 13/06/2017 11:24

Sorry my Labour MP is brilliant and my SNP one is awful.

Calyx72 · 13/06/2017 11:46

Arkadia I don't care about TM we are in Scotland and I am counting Holyrood seats.

flippinada · 13/06/2017 21:22

@mayoli I think an awful lot of the votes in Scotland were extremely close. It'll be interesting to see what happens at the next election - Holyrood or Westminster.

howabout · 14/06/2017 09:55

mayoli I agree with flippinada. Now it is clearer that Labour can win I think almost all seats are in play for them, even those recently gone blue.

Arkadia · 14/06/2017 10:11

The situation is extremely fluid. I believe that at this point no seat is really safe and it could change colour pretty much at random, and the candidate almost doesn't matter. If TM can actually hang on we might get to a more stable position, but we shall see; at the moment that seems rather unlikely.
