Brexit - would Scots mnetters vote to leave the UK following a fresh referendum post Brexit

Hi, if Brexit happens (I'm for Remain) a fresh independence referendum for Scotland seems likely. Would Scots mnetters be more likely to vote for independence with the prospect of EU membership?

I'll be voting for brexit. I look at the SNP FB occasionally and am shocked at the number of people wanting to leave the EU but who are voting to remain to try and kick off another referendum. I can see pro and cons for EU membership so am using vote tactically to help show there isn't an overwhelming majority for membership.

bonnie1981 · 15/04/2016 22:23

I'm voting to stay in the EU as I think the UK and Scotland are better within it. Plus a lot of jobs, including my husbands depend on EU membership.

another incentive is to avoid another Scottish Independence Referendum although the SNP bastards are determined to use our money on that either way.

I am voting to stay in the EU because I think it is the right thing to do. I voted No in the independence referendum and will never change my mind on that. Even if the EU vote is leave I'd still prefer to be part of the UK union.

It would be hilarious if England, Wales and Northern Ireland voted stay and Scotland voted go. I'd love to see Sturgeon squirm her way out of that.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 15/04/2016 23:42

Hirples very funny link ! But seriously I do hope there is no ambiguity in the question.

HirplesWithHaggis · 16/04/2016 02:23

OK, here is what the Electoral Commission recommends as the Euroref Question. It's a "remain" / "leave" response, rather than a "yes" / "no" one.

Sheld0n · 19/04/2016 22:43

Voting to remain in the EU, would vote to leave the UK in a heartbeat in the event of another referendum, Brexit or not.

MorrisZapp · 19/04/2016 22:58

I'm a no voter and I dread the prospect of another indyref. I must admit I'm thinking of a tactical exit vote. I'd rather we stay in Europe, but I think the UK as a whole will vote to remain, and I have nothing to lose by sticking my vickies up at the SNP.

I just can't bear the post match analysis if the Scottish vote is very different from rUK.

MorrisZapp · 19/04/2016 22:59

Wish we'd had remain/leave on the indy ballot.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 19/04/2016 23:07

Unless Scotland votes to leave and rUK votes to stay which would be hilarious. Sturgeon might spontaneously combust.

LunaLoveg00d · 20/04/2016 07:55

Sturgeon is programmed to spontaneously combust if she says "Conservative". It's not in her vocabulary, she has to say "Tory" instead.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Scottish government dealt with things like health and education rather than constantly discussing another independence?

Tomorrowisanewday · 21/04/2016 11:02

Going by Ms Sturgeon's speech yesterday, there will be another referendum if Britain votes to leave the EU. In Scotland, I think that will be so damaging. My business has been recovering in the 18 months since the last referendum, but I don't think I could go through what we did in the run-up to the last one. In the current economic climate, the business community needs confidence, and the uncertainty doesn't provide that.
On the Brexit point, I'll be voting to stay.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/04/2016 11:11

It's any excuse to prompt another indyref. If when the queen pops her clogs that will also be a reason since Charles is unlikely to be as "popular". Therefore it might be seen as an opportunity to get rid of the monarchy in Scotland or to do some private deal with princess Anne :o

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 22/04/2016 00:26

Wouldn't it just. Sturgeon isn't even making the slightest pretence of caring about anything else.

HirplesWithHaggis · 23/04/2016 02:52

www.snp.org/manifesto

Erm, have you read the manifesto? Very little about indy there at all, let alone an indyref2.

And you can hardly be surprised that a party founded on the idea of indy for Scotland should continue to punt the idea of, er, indy for Scotland.

It would be like Labour giving up socialism... Except they did, round about 1997.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/04/2016 07:23

I have not read the SNP manifesto. I will never vote for them so it would be rather a waste of time.

Sturgeon's recent speeches are yet more indication that she has contempt for the result of the referendum and "once in a generation " was a lie.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 23/04/2016 07:28

The comparison with Labour giving up socialism doesn't work. Labour gave up old school hard left politics because voters were not interested in it.

The SNP should have Scotland's interests in mind and govern for the best of the country. They don't however. They prefer to whinge , do nothing and blame everything on Westminster.

tilliebob · 23/04/2016 08:18

I wouldn't vote for Scotland to the UK regardless of the EU referendum. I think I'm developing a phobia about the bloody word referendum, actually. Angry

OneMagnumisneverenough · 23/04/2016 08:56

And apart from anything else NSs interview with Gary Tank Commander was least funny. Kezia saying "I'm not a fan of Willie" or words to that effect, was classic and Ruth was funny too. NS was still using it as a political broadcast and avoided the Trump question.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 23/04/2016 08:57

And I'm aware that's very shallow by the way Grin

prettybird · 23/04/2016 10:26

I think you're letting your antipathy towards Nicola get in the way. I found all three funny and I'm glad to see that they can take the piss out of thenselves. I can't see Cameron doing something like that Shock

As a friend posted on Facebook, "Please, please, please, please say that Gary Tank Commander is going to interview Coburn as well" Grin Unfortunately I don't think it'll happen Wink

tilliebob · 23/04/2016 11:02

Bizarrely I found the RD interview with GTC the best of the lot Confused

trixymalixy · 23/04/2016 11:23

Gary has interviewed Coburn as well as Patrick Harvie and Willie Rennie.

Kezia's is the best I've seen so far. The Willie line was brilliant.

To answer the OP, I was at one point quite open to the idea of independence, but the economic case was just not there, so I voted no. However since the referendum my eyes have been opened to the agenda of the SNP and the small mindedness of nationalism and I really don't like what I see. So now I can never see myself voting for independence.

prettybird · 23/04/2016 12:03

Oh good - I'm looking forward to seeing the Coburn one GrinGrinGrin

OneMagnumisneverenough · 23/04/2016 12:25

Prettybird, yes possibly, but NSs was funny because of gary rather than NS. I felt i saw a bit of personality from the others that i didnt get from NS.
