Who has teens starting exams this week?

DS1 is now on study leave and has his first two N5's this week - Graph Comm on Thursday and History on Friday. He's finally settled down to some study although he got A's for both those prelims so the stress hasn't started in earnest yet. Anyone else?

ds said the maths higher was really hard, he had studied and did well in the Int 2 maths, but the higher was really bad, apparently

so unfair on the kids, whats the SQA playing at Confused

I don't mean it as teacher bashing - in the whole CfE mess I feel most sorry for teachers - if they've managed to prepare students well they are amazing and admirable. In some subjects they've just been given an impossible task.

I'd love to know where the (snake oil) sellers of this scheme are now, maybe I could warn their next intended victims!

rogueantimatter · 22/05/2015 12:55

I wasn't accusing anyone of teacher bashing! Apologies if anyone thought that.

Don't get me started on 'added value' skills! Working in groups for example, how on earth is that supposed to be assessed fairly.

DS has a million crumpled, torn, sometimes incomplete worksheets....

I wonder if coursework is too time-taking? A lot of time spent to ensure that a good grade is awarded perhaps at the expense of teaching the rest of the course.

I do wish teachers would give more structured homework that they marked quickly and returned to the pupils.

I feel very old....

No, no offence taken! I just realised my post could be interpreted that way rather than the SQA bashing I intendedWink.

I heard on the radio today about a petition that's been started about how hard the Higher maths was and how some of the questions weren't covered in school. I'm a teacher and I am not sold on CfE at all so far. DS1 had N5 French today but I've still to hear how it went...

15,000 signatures according to the evening news! And the SQA lady actually said they would adjust the grades downwards to make it the same as last year.

That's the Highers done and dusted for us, Chemisty this afternoon (apparently set at a very high level). So now the waiting for results begins!

rogueantimatter · 28/05/2015 16:47

Finished here too - hurrahhh!

AssembleTheMinions · 28/05/2015 18:58

Yep, finished here too after higher chemistry which went pretty well by all accounts.

Now the waiting begins...

DS1 has his N5s done now. I think he's bombed most of them due to nerves which is a same as he's quite a bright but crippled by self doubt lad. However I've heard of 2 teen suicides in the past few weeks so however he's done I don't really care. We'll fix it.

tillie that's awful! Not because of exam stress?
Terribly sad

Annunziata · 28/05/2015 22:49

Tillie we have had that here too- it has been dreadfully dreadfully sad. There is a big problem with self harming at DD's school.

Poor poor children.

But yes, very glad it is done.

Are some of you in Fife? there was a tragic suicide of a boy in my dds year at QAHS a couple of weeks ago.
