Sorry this is probably controversial.. but here goes anyway...

Ok so there's Brighton that's tolerant. But where else?

We are in London at the moment and craving the sea... need somewhere commutable. We love Kent to visit but it's just so UKIPPY 🇬🇧
Any (serious) ideas?

Bournemouth is less blue rinse and more students and water sports these days..

nancy75 · 26/04/2018 20:50

Hastings & Whitstable both have non UKIppy bits

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 28/04/2018 08:34

Friends moved from London to West Wittering a while ago - not sure how UKIPPY it is, but it's utterly gorgeous!

Brownieb · 28/04/2018 08:35

ukippi ? What do you mean ?

auntyflonono · 28/04/2018 08:40

Weymouth? Might be too far.

theothermother79 · 28/04/2018 08:48

UKIPPY! Brilliant! Yeah, we love Bournemouth!

Kintan · 28/04/2018 08:51

I know what you mean OP - we love visiting Broadstairs but could never live in Thanet due to the UKIP influence!

breadwidow · 28/04/2018 08:52

Following as thinking of doing the same thing. A few people have mentioned Bournemouth

TaurielTest · 28/04/2018 09:33

Folkestone is very commutable (52 mins to St Pancras) and has a lot going on that isn't remotely UKIPpy.

superram · 28/04/2018 22:08

Whitstable is about as left wing as you can get, in Kent. It still has a grammar school system so we are staying in London till kids leave school.

St Leonards and Hastings

Deal would also be worth a look-got a thriving arts scene

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 17/07/2018 21:37

Thanks for the suggestions - please keep them coming!

And what's the deal with the grammar schools in Kent?

OP posts:
slinkysaluki · 16/09/2018 21:12

There are non grammar schools in Whitstable and I wouldn't call it left wing at all actually, most of Kent is Conservative council. Lots of DFL's here !

slinkysaluki · 16/09/2018 21:13

Kids do the Kent Test for grammar schools it's optional

SunshineP · 16/09/2018 21:15

West Wittering definitely. Chichester is fab and very close.

ifIonlyknew · 08/11/2018 23:31

hmm Bournemouth has a nice beach and is ok but having lived here for a long long time I wouldn't really recommend it. It merges into Poole, it is ridiculously busy, it is full of flats and student accommodation, LOTS of nightlife but not the sort we want, parking is extortionate as our property prices. Schools are ok if you live in the right bits but lots are not good.

erm12345 · 07/01/2019 21:56

UKIPPY?

What do you mean by this please?

erm12345 · 07/01/2019 21:58

For someone looking for tolerance - you don’t sound very tolerant.

Neolara · 07/01/2019 22:08

Deal itself nice but is in UKIP heartland territory.

Marcipex · 07/01/2019 22:15

We're up on Dartmoor but there's a UKIP prat three doors away. He tried to put leaflets through the door but DH told him to do one.
