DH is dying - NOT

Why am I soooo angry with him?

He has had a cold (with cough, more annoying that way) for over a week, and 2 days ago said his ear hurt. He's prone to ear infections, so I said "go to docs".

Today he did go (we can get same day appts here), got ear drops, has come home, retired to bed (ALL day), and when I go in the bedroom to sort washing or something he looks all pathetic.
He's unshaven, smells sweaty cos of being under the duvet all day, and to make things worse he keeps farting (he says cos of the painkillers). He complained at me for opening the bedroom window, but it smells like a midden in there!!

He had yesterday off work, and spent all day asleep, but it didn't annoy me cos I was at work, anyway, I thought he'd be better today. I'm just a heartless cow today aren't I. How do I make myself sympathetic?

Bad case of manflu then? 2 days in bed?? Women generally just don't or can't do that; that's why you're irritated. I'm not surprised

ssd · 26/05/2005 17:34

stinky pig!

I think you should be a teeny bit sympathetic and when he begins to show signs of recovery YOU get the flu and take to your bed!

SoupDragon · 26/05/2005 17:36

I know - but I can visualise it perfectly but with my dh substituted. They're useless aren't they? bless them.

TrophyWife · 26/05/2005 18:09

PMSL...
sorry no help, but my dh is the same....

Aragon · 26/05/2005 18:51

Ahh! Bless. He has a mans cold. The sort that sends him to bed for two days. Just you try doing the same when it's you though.
"What - you're going to bed again".

jjash · 26/05/2005 18:56

aah - manflu ! where they lose the ability to use their limbs and cannot possibly stretch 2cm to reach the remote control/cup of tea/tissues etc.

TinyGang · 26/05/2005 19:01

Yes, but it's soooo much WORSE when they get it.
Dh had the snip recently. Don't get me wrong, I am sympathetic and he was brave to do it and didn't complain and all - but really, what a kerfuffle.. He had a couple of really tiny stiches and there was LOT of sitting down and fuss and ice packs and cups of tea.

Er , HELLO - I've had 3 children - more stiches than the Bayeaux Tapestry and winced up and down for England night and day looking after them all having given birth! (not telling any of you guys anything, I know!)

moondog · 26/05/2005 19:16

lol at the thought of blaming the painkillers for the farting!

Pinotmum · 26/05/2005 19:21

Tell him to get up and have a shower and brush his teeth and he'll feel better. Tell him he'll get bed sores if he doesn't get moving and then he'll need more of those fart inducing pain killers. Don't sympathise what ever you do it will only encourage him. Now I know why my dh is never ill

californiagirl · 26/05/2005 20:08

DH got up this morning and said pitifully "I don't know about you, but I think I'm coming down with that cough the baby's got". He doesn't know about me? He somehow managed to miss the cough that deafens people 3 offices away at work? He's forgotten the cough that interrupted sex LAST NIGHT!?! Umm, no, I didn't come down with that cough 3 days ago, I just make this horrible noise because it amuses me.

Sorry, that doesn't help you at all, does it?

The thing is, he could get a gold medal for farting anyway, so why the painkillers make a difference I don't know.

He has actually got up now, cos I threatened that I'd let ds go and jump on the bed (actually I couldn't stop him, he loves leaping on anyone who is in bed).

DH still holds his head with both hands when he starts to cough tho'. !!!

Aren't they annoying?!
My husband hurt his knee shortly after I had a baby and announced "you don't know what pain like this is like" ??????!!!!

uncaring · 26/05/2005 20:19

Oh, and I've pulled the duvet back and sprinkled the bed liberally with perfume so I can sleep in it tonight. Sorry, I don't do bed changing at 8 o'clock in the evening.

It's first job on the list tomorrow tho', so he'd better get up.

I'm being very jolly, saying that the antibiotic drops will have started to make a difference by morning. He keeps saying he can't hear me.

Don't blame you for being pissed off, men have a way off making their symptoms sound life or death whereas we're meant to just get on with ours... i've had a cold all week and wanted nothing better than to lie down but have had to keep going to look after dd!

PinkFluffPudding · 26/05/2005 20:26

DH blames EVERYTHING for his farting - whether it's my cooking, my mum's, his mum's, some beer he drank, you name it, everything but his own flatulent bowel gets blamed for it.

PMSL at painkillers though... that's a new one!

HappyDaddy · 27/05/2005 09:33

I don't do any of that, I just get on with things. Does that make me an honourary woman? See what happens when you're brought up solely by your mum?

Tinygang I see your DH's snip and raise you an infection of the urinary tract. DH is a cyberchondriac. I can't find the article in the Times to do a link. He was playing footie the week after the snip. Like your DH nothing really wrong with him. Then every time he felt an ache or pain he blamed the op. He would look on some man's vasectomy site and say.... "see, I told you it wasn't straightforward". Then he would enter his symptons onto some medical site and bob's your uncle (fanny's your aunt) he had something else.
