What do you do with your partner of a night/when you have 'couple' time?

and no I don't mean sex! lol.

things are going swimmingly no probs but beau & I don't want to get into a rut already - ie watching DVD's in doors/bath together/his local when we can/walking in town.

we've had a scrabble night but think he got fed up.
we're going to pick a recipe out and cook it together, & he's suggesting walks in the park etc.

we don't have much quality time ( mostly it;s evenings when DS is in bed)

so what do u do?

erm we are in a rut either he watches footy and i mumsnet or he lurks on mumsnet and facebooks and i iron while listening to my mp3. we very rarely interact.

though when we do its wine, pizza and dvd.

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 02/10/2008 18:57

thats who things ended up with XH, but i'm determined (as is he it won't happen this time! lol)

oh i think bath together is lovely and not in a rut at all...

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 02/10/2008 18:59

oh no we are not having problems we do interact just not on a night, we do things with the dc together and bath the dc together on a night etc. its just that we both have different ways of winding down on a night.

you could try twister?

ILikeYourSleeves · 02/10/2008 18:59

Hmmmmmm we must be in a rut then! DH and I have been together for 8 years so maybe that's why but TBH we love spending time together on the sofa (and no I don't mean sex either LOL). We usually are on the net on our laptops for a bit after dinner (we don't mind though even though that sounds like we are together but not together) then we set a time that we are going to watch a programme or DVD together. We have recently invented DVD night which is whenever we get a film through from Lovefilm, no computers allowed on those nights! We also pretend sometimes that our kitchen is a cafe and we go in for a pot of tea and a natter (that sounds sad but it's fun honest!).

I think if you both enjoy the DVD thing / bath together etc then that's not a rut at all! Don't put so much pressure on yourself to be 'doing something' all the time then that's a guaranteed way to not make it quality time!

HTH x

TheInvisibleManDidIt · 02/10/2008 19:09

He sits and watches tv/ plays wow. I watch tv, read or mumsnet after dc are in bed.

I think that you're both trying to find things to do together just to spend time with each other is lovely.

unknownrebelbang · 02/10/2008 19:11

couple time?

what's that?

lol.

Anna8888 · 02/10/2008 19:12

Talk.

Charlee · 02/10/2008 19:13

Me and dp bum about some local arcades as if we were teengagers again it can be quite fun with a chippy on the beach afterwards.
We go for meals or rent out dvd's to watch.

Nothing hugley exciting i'm afraid! will watch this thread for ideas though.

We have a dartboard and spend hours playing darts, or chess or any board games. Cuddling up and watching film with wine/beer. Putting a good CD on and no TV, just chatting. Cheaper version of going to the pub really. Jigsaws. Sometime I love it when he's on the computer playing poker and I sit next to him watching my choice on TV. We chat when we want and are quiet when we want. Walks followed by pub lunch. Playing Ready Steady Cook

eviz · 02/10/2008 21:18

We spend most evenings on his/hers laptops (and his/hers sofas)

Very occasionally we find the energy to dance together (our mutual hobby) - clear the rug and chairs out of the way and practice some fancy dance steps or other.

Should do more of it, but it requires effort - and facebook/MN is just so much easier

LesAnimaux · 02/10/2008 21:23

Blimey - I would be scared if we started planning things like that!!

Mostly wer'e so knackered we crash on the sofa and watch TV. He's already asleep now, having fallen asleep putting DC's to bed.

It's a luxuary now for us to talk without being bothered by DCs

We had to go out together today, and spent a whole hour in the car talking. Bliss.

hairymcclary · 02/10/2008 21:26

we would probobly argue!
No kids around to hear, no holds back, go for it!

(Not that i know for sure cos we dont get much time like that)

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 02/10/2008 23:42

eviz - actually we were talking about starting salsa but the night it's on is my study night - they have another class on on 'our' night but I'm not sure of the times.

don't you have to jiggle it n wiggle it with salsa

ilys - when I say rut I didn't mean any offense, I just meant doing the same thing every time he comes down sort of a rut.

charlee - like that Idea of the arcades! (and a cone of chips on the front as well!)

might need to think about twister as well, & get the radio on more - for those love songs!

we've agreed to play monopoly next time, & also we're gonna try doing some sweet/treat type concoctions in the kitchen for the xmas box I'm doing with DS (but obv DS can't do the ones involving alcohol so we'll have to do those when he's in bed! lol)

any other thoughts?

lizziemun · 03/10/2008 18:36

I either mumsnet or sewing, he plays WOW.

I will not play board games with him as he takes it too seriously and has to win. Sulks for days if doesn't win.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 03/10/2008 18:38

Argue, usually

TheArmadillo · 03/10/2008 18:42

watch dvd/telly

cook together.

role play (the D&D kind not the sex kind) - we have a lodger which helps.

Make up ds lego models

sit next to each other on computers while he LOTRs and I'm on here and we chat.

IF we have a free night we tend to go out for a meal or get a takeaway and watch dvds.

TheArmadillo · 03/10/2008 18:42

oh and sometimes we play computer games

SpandexIsMyEnemy · 03/10/2008 18:52

role play D&D?

OP posts:
ActingNormal · 03/10/2008 19:06

What is WOW?

We go on our laptops or watch crap TV or get pizza delivery and we are happy with it and don't even care about trying to 'spice it up'. We must be SO married and boring! It often doesn't bother me much if we hardly talk, I just love sitting next to him and occasionally calling him names

Swedes · 03/10/2008 19:10

We dress up as comic book heroes/heroines and drink vodka straight from the bottle. With a wedge of lime stuffed down the neck if it's a special occasion.

ActingNormal · 03/10/2008 19:11

And what is D&D role play?

TheArmadillo · 03/10/2008 19:12

D&D = dungeons and dragons.
