prompted by another thread... who got £xxx for A level results?

I remember being so upset when my 'father' told me he had given his daughter £100 for each A level result she got.

Was this the norm? It would have been about 18/20 years ago

Seeing another thread about kids getting rewards for good reports brought this all back to me

Needless to say my 'father' has never given me a penny, for A levels, or for anything else for that matter - but that isnt the point of this thread!

I got a white gold and sapphire ring for my GCSEs - the family had been through hell and back and it was a "we're so proud of you doing so well during all that" - my sister got the same 2 yrs later

I didn't do A levels.

But I did get a Kool and the Gang LP for passing my O levels.

I was thrilled, too!

I didn't get anything for GCSE's, A-Level's, Degree, Post-Grad stuff. Why would I?

I did them for me, not for my parent's.

I didn't get anything for any exam results, but then again I wouldn't have expected anything. I was just expected to do well, for myself.

I know people did but I never did and I think that's right - monetary rewarding is odd imo.

I know one mum at school who has told her ds he will get an X-Box if he does well in his SATS (this is a 7 yr old)

Was told I would get a monetry reward for A levels.
Had a shit year Mum died just before mocks - Failed miserably.
I got nothing , My step brother who had nothing to contend with got £500.

I think the plan was a crap idea and academic achievement should not be rewarded, it is the effort put in not the grades that matter.

I got a new watch - this was the eighties so it was one of those with the sun and moon on!

£20 for each A at GCSE and £10 for a B, from my Dad. 16 years ago.
I did well and the rates crashed to £10 and £5 .
Can't remember for A-levels.

maybe the question of the thread should be then, why did he chose to tell me that?

I got £20 for an A and £10 for a B. Actually that sounds a bit generous - it was probably more like £10 and £5. I got a piece of jewellery for my degree.

I had friends at school whose parents promised them sliding scales of payment for GCSE/A-level.

My parents didn't and at the time I thought they were being incredibly mean...

Of course now I would do exactly the same thing!

I got a Gary Glitter TAPE for passing my 11 plus. If only we knew then what we know now...... Nothing after that.
I think the fact that I was allowed to eat polos during the exam ultimately led to to an addiction to confectionary during times of stress which has led to my huge weight problem in my forties !!!!!

pmsl I remember eating polos too!!!!

Polos helped me through my O levels but I was a militant veggie by the time of my A levels and couldn't eat them - I'm sure my grades suffered!

ermmmm, we use to get an ice cream for a good result at high school , but them again this was in a different country.

My Dad offered me £10 for each A at A-level and nothing for anything less(20 years ago) I knew I wasn't going to get A's, tried to negotiate something for C's, but he didn't budge, so I decided it wasn't worth the effort and got E's

No inducements offered for exam results ever. I was given some money after I graduated from college but was not told about it beforehand so that it was "Well done", not "Do well".
