The moment your crush withered?

What was the moment the lightbulb came on for you and a mad crush just died?

I’ve posted about this before but the moment that killed a totally consuming crush was he developed a fixation on keto, ‘raw food’ and intermittent fasting, and I saw him eating ‘dinner‘ that was just four plain very soft-boiled eggs and then lick the yolk off the plate and I nearly threw up. He also called it the ‘keto protocol’ with a serious face like he thought he was in the army, in some ways that was even worse.

When I was 18 I dated a gorgeous footballer (youth team for a big club). Went off him quite a bit when he asked me to go to a safari park, but said it would have to be a double date with his mate driving, as he didn’t want the monkeys to damage his own car 😆
Mind you, he later dumped me because I ‘wanted to change the world’ - this apparently because I bought the Big Issue on a date.

BellaPommefritio · 18/08/2026 13:30

Someone I'd fancied for years- his bathroom floor had loads of hairs, hair grips, used plasters etc which was bad enough ...then was just dropping off to sleep that night when I was startled by what sounded like a duck decoy which was actually a rip roaring fart. Instant ick.

I'm laughing so much at your wanting to change the world because you bought a £1 paper 😂😂😂 and that being a turnoff for him!!!

Man I had been on a few dates with before I met DH. We were at my house and I was getting ready to go out, lightbulb broke and he said “oh we can call someone out for that I have a number” and I just lied and said I felt sick so couldn’t go, never saw him again. It wasn’t my crush dying I was legit repulsed by him after that… what the fuck do you mean call someone to change the lightbulb??? I am so glad I didn’t sleep with him because if I’d slept with him then he’d said that I would legit feel ashamed.

Was totally crushing on this handsome raven haired rock god of a guy, and then I checked out his music. Alas it was awful. I icked so badly and went right off him. Although we did stay friends because he was a nice chap.

Ew, ew, have just remembered another one from my late teenage years. At uni I went on a date with a great looking guy who looked like Seal (v appealing in the 90s especially). He was a bit wet, and I was going off him somewhat already, so I said I didn’t feel well and wanted to go home. His response was to say in a ‘seductive’ tone: ‘you’ve got a fever…’ and move in for a kiss. Argh! Argh! I still want to vomit my brain out when I think of it.

DelurkingAJ · 18/08/2026 14:28

First year of uni, I’ve always had a soft spot for tall, slim blue eyed boys. I was nursing quite a crush when one day he dropped by my room. Chatting away, delighted with the world, then he told me with great glee that he’d been for McDonalds and the cashier hadn’t charged him for his drink. He’d known but said nothing. I bit my tongue to avoid saying ‘but that’s theft’, and the crush withered and died in that instant.

MarilynMerlot · 18/08/2026 14:28

So many of these prove the old saying true: ‘a crush is simply a lack of information

@MarilynMerlot agree 100%! That's why celeb crushes are so satisfying, because we rarely get the necessary information to ruin the crush. 😁

hazandduck · 18/08/2026 15:40

When I was nine, my first ever crush picked his nose and ate it in the playground. It was literally like a switch turned off and I still feel icky if I ever run in to him now!

JoyousWriter · 18/08/2026 16:05

Because he said "nom nom nom" if he was enjoying a meal.

Marmaladeisorange · 18/08/2026 17:20

First date, having a snog, and he whispered, "I love you". I died.

Willsmer · 18/08/2026 17:26

When I found out that she (I am male) had had a one night stand when she was under the influence. That was a bit of a red flag.

NovemberMorn · 18/08/2026 18:19

One of the first boys who ever kissed me was possibly the most handsome man I had ever met. All my friends were envious because he asked me out, and we did have a nice night.
However....when he kissed me, his mouth was so wet, when I moved my head backwards, a stream of his saliva had attached itself to my lip...it literally turned my stomach and put me of dating for a while.

Pernicketywishes · 18/08/2026 18:26

My brothers best friend was a model. Sooo handsome and oozing with confidence. 7 years older than me. I adored him aged 12+
He turned up at my house unannounced with my brother about 6 months ago. Still full of charm, we all noticed he loved the sound of his own voice… a lot. But he now looked like Trevor Eve, rather than one of the Athena posters in the 80s. My cute husband looked even more handsome than ever stood next to him

He got a corporate job in London and turned into an arrogant yuppie. The final straw was him ringing Next about a refund and using the phrase "I'm not saying it's the fault of yourselves"
Honestly I clamped shut

Christ. So has mine!

Are you holding out for a virgin?...are you???

Disturbia81 · 18/08/2026 18:36

When they start letting out farts.

SafeAndStranded · 18/08/2026 18:38

I had a few "the one that got away" feelings about my ex from when I was 17. He added me on fb a couple of years ago (now in our 40s), profile pic complete with a man bun and a page full of flat earth crap and other various conspiracy theories. Instant ick.

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2026 18:49

Prob if I ever saw him again it would… but not seeing someone for seven years keeps a crush alive.

EatSleepHooverRepeat · 18/08/2026 19:24

Mine was at uni. Really tall, handsome guy in one of my classes - he looked like a model and was a nice guy too. While chatting one day it became apparent he was a big Disney fan. Instantly turned off! He was a lovely guy though!

SuperGinger · 18/08/2026 19:31

Just after my first kiss the idiot boy said a bird "shitted" on your head. That was it, ick! I told him the past participle is "shat"
