My partner has received a message on WhatsApp this evening from an unknown number stating..

Hey. I’ve recently been for an STI test and my results have come back as positive for chlamydia. I have been asked to inform any recent sexual partners and to advise them to get tested themselves. So sorry.

She won’t say who she is, only that he invited her back to his house after a night out in November (I’m not aware of any nights out that he’s had while we’ve been together, it’s something he’s never been bothered about, he also has his son full time so rarely has a night off) and that once they went back to his they had sex, when she left he passed on his number but she never contacted him as she wasn’t interested in seeing him again.

We don’t live together so it could be possible that he invited her to his and I wouldn’t have a clue. He’s adamant that he hasn’t cheated on me. I just don’t know what to believe.

What is your OH's occupation/ line of work, my DH is a tradesman, we have been married 40+ years but from time to time he gets odd messages saying " I'm pregnant with your child" " I've tested positive for HIV " because of what he does people know his name details, address, phone numbers etc, they are all on Google, and if he has upset someone all his details, are available for anyone to use and try and cause trouble.

MissDoubleU · 13/01/2026 10:47

Could be a general scam, could also be a wrong number or more likely it’s the ex (possibly on a burner/friends/second ohone) just trying to throw a spanner in the works.

Seeds of doubt do a lot of damage. He has been up front and this person accusing him hasn’t. Wait for the test results. If you’re totally clean the likelihood is they aren’t genuine and your BF is.

& @Tpu

Well maybe that's what OP's boyfriend thought too, but it hasn't worked out very well has it? If he thought it was worth a laugh he could have shown it to his mates in the pub or son, if old enough; but the partner who you don't live with? The end result is erosion of trust, OP is obviously worried - why do that to a partner you care about?

I accept that your own circumstances may be different with rock solid trust, cohabitation etc

Yes that’s a fair point I am in different circumstances. I was trying to suggest why he might have shared it and not made a thing of keeping it from her. If it’s a fairly new relationship maybe they don’t know each other so well and he thought she’d take it in the same vein as he did? I still think it’s just sounds like one of those fake messages so I wouldn’t put too much stock into it anyway.

Jane143 · 13/01/2026 11:03

My at e a digit wrong on the number the man gave? Is she a contact on his phone?

FerriswheelsKissesandLilacs · 13/01/2026 11:16

The message and the birthday card together sounds like a malicious attempt to split you up to me.

Goditsmemargaret · 13/01/2026 11:27

I don't think it's true but there is something shady going on.

  1. Let's say it was true. Why would 'she' be hiding her identity from him? If they hooked up presumably he knows who she is. It would be different if she was anonymously messing you.

  2. He voluntarily shared this with you.

  3. He's not getting tested.

  4. They have a 'hey' as their WhatsApp name - it's likely a burner phone.

I would believe him if you've had no cause to doubt him before UNLESS you find you she threatened to tell you but he hid that piece of info.

However someone is messing with him and you will both want to get to the bottom of who and why. I'd partner up with him on this instead of investigating him.

This happening, and the anonymous card, make it sound like someone with an axe to grind, or a stalker. Has anything else happened recently that’s odd?

This is my view too. Someone trying to cause problems @Dontknowwhattobelieve2 for whatever the reason. If your STI check comes back clear I would definitely believe him.

Chloujo · 13/01/2026 11:51

When I was in my late teens my then boyfriend got an MSN (remember that?!) message from some random that I had cheated. We lived in different cities and I was sitting next to him when the messages came through. I did not cheat and luckily he didn't believe it for a second and we laughed it off. It was unnerving to think someone went out of their way to do that though.

It sounds fake to me. If it was true, I doubt he would have passed the message onto you and that he won't get a test because he knows there's no need for one.

how do you know the sender is female? 🤷🏾‍♀️

⬆️ Elephant in the room is this.

CherryRipe1 · 13/01/2026 12:29

Have you tried googling the number to see if anyone else has this,? Smells likes scam or a hoax to me.

Bearybasket · 13/01/2026 12:32

Doesn’t really matter does it, he’s either cheated or he hasn’t.

Personally, I think it’s someone on the wind up too but I’d still get tested too in your shoes just for complete peace of mind

Coffeislife · 13/01/2026 12:42

Sounds like someone bitter trying to make problems

ForPinkCrab · 13/01/2026 12:47

A bit of a long shot but it does sound a but like a scam message to do damage.
Have you google searched the phone number . I’ve had messages I wasn’t sure about, googled them and they are just messages doing the rounds . Might be worth just checking…..edited to say I’ve just seem someone else posted the same 😉

Maybe you should message and ask for severaldetails .....bedroom details etc and say unless she gives detail and can prove this is true then you will take it further as harrassment. If she can prove it then get rid of partner.

Notarealblonde · 13/01/2026 13:09

Sex worker??

Migrainedays · 13/01/2026 13:20

I had a whatsapp message a few years ago from a woman apparently, no pitcher no info.
It said the following.

Stop messaging my husband I know everything and I will be telling your husband about all this.
Your a home wrecker and now I have to get tested for an sti, no tellings where you have been.
You talked my husband in to all this.
I want all the money back that he has spent on you I have the receipts.
You downtown slag.
If you pay me back I'll let this go.

I replied with ive been single 10 year i think you either have the wrong number or your trying to scam me, lest go with SCAM shall we.
Kind regards
Uptown whore.

I never heard back from said person.

gumpyforest · 13/01/2026 13:30

It sounds a bit scammy and weird to me. And I don’t get why he’d willingly offer up the info if it was going to reveal him as being a cheat.

Could it be a wrong number? It’s all very odd.

Kumquatzest · 13/01/2026 13:56

It could be real... but equally it could be a scam where they send the same message to thousands of people, hoping one person will take the bait and reply. Like that text scam that goes "hey mum I lost my phone". Have you tried Googling the number or message text and has it been reported elsewhere?

Dontknowwhattobelieve2 · 15/01/2026 13:48

Quick update.. I’ve had my results through today and everything is clear. We’re still no wiser on who it could be but my mind is a lot more settled now.

OP posts:
Silvers11 · 15/01/2026 15:12

@Dontknowwhattobelieve2 Glad the tests were clear. It really does sound to me that either it was a complete scam or someone deliberately trying to cause him a problem with this relationship.

ParmaVioletTea · 15/01/2026 15:14

My bet is on a scam. Remember that email that did the rounds pretending they'd observed people watching computer porn, and threatening to send evidence to your whole address book? Something similar here, I'd bet.

yeah I got that one too, several times.

CinnamonBuns67 · 15/01/2026 19:41

It does sound like a hoax or someone trying to stir crap. If your results come back negative then I'd assume that's what it is.

Edit- Just seen your update. Glad it's all clear.

blythet · 15/01/2026 22:06

It could be a scam but I think that text combined with they mystery birthday card sounds like someone trying to stir up trouble or break you up

pilates · 15/01/2026 22:11

I think it’s a scam
