I think the word 'performance' can be used in terms of how blokes behave with one another E.g getting too drunk (poor performance!) or being funny (he was on form!) and so on. If the mate is saying sorry for his performance, maybe he was being a downer, which was a bit shit for the others and that's why he's clarifying that he gets anxiety?

I can’t see a woman using the word performance and how bad at it (whatever it is) would a woman have to be to send a message worded like that?
