Breeder applying pressure for payment and asking for transfer or cash payment BEFORE viewing day with puppy at 4 weeks..?

Already paid a £200 pre reserve fee!!!

Should I continue or red flag and run?!

I'd actually have been tempted to play along (assuming breeder is local) and check out what conditions these dogs are being kept in.

She also must have a very large house to have 10 cavs AND puppies... unless she's keeping them in an outbuilding.

VinoEsmeralda · 17/02/2025 15:18

Spanielaid.co.uk rehome with (young ) kids & have lots of crosspoo's. Not sure if you have experience with dogs but fostering for them also great opportunity and you get 1st refusal...

She is outright refusing to give me £200 back!!

I'm so annoyed 😡

She’s a scammer. It’s to be expected sadly 😡

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 17/02/2025 17:38

@fandangored well we have just been to view a litter of pedigree puppies this week. no deposit, mum was there, previously seen the pedigree which is excellent. will collect in 3 weeks time and pay in full then. it will be microchipped, first jags and kc registered. no bother. no backyard breeder. a good breeder will also make sure the YOU are suitable to be taking one of their puppies. if the breeder does not bother who buys then they are not a good breeder. you will live and learn. write off your £200.

SnoopysHoose · 17/02/2025 18:19

Pedigree being excellent is worthless if the dogs haven't been health checked prior to breeding. There has been plenty horrifically bred dogs at crufts, KC registered isn't that wonderful.

fandangored · 17/02/2025 18:51

I might take her to small claims court to reclaim money back..

She is so rude!!!

Btw it wasn't called a deposit but a "pre-reserve fee"

I really can't afford to loose any money here - it's costing us a small fortune as it is!!!

Sorry OP but you’ve given your money to a charlatan.

Well that’s because you’ve chosen a ridiculous designer crossbreed. A KC pedigree pup would be much cheaper. You could pick up a lovely health checked puppy for £1,000 - £1,500. A saving of over a thousand pounds!

I really think you need to write off the £200. It was your mistake in not doing your research . I’m surprised you can’t see that.

So it wasn't even a deposit then! It was a fee. So you have no right to a refund. Next time instead of choosing a 'designer dog', pick a dog up from a shelter. Sorry but imo you deserve all the pain you get, my only wish is all designer dog buyers get their karma like this, and worse.

She isn’t just rude. She is obviously a puppy dealer - probably selling sickly pups smuggled in from Eastern Europe. If she is typical of these people, she won’t care about the small claims court. Anything the court decides, she just won’t pay and you will have to pay more and more money taking it back to court. Your £200 has gone. It could have been much more.

It could be, or it could be a cross breed. You can’t be sure from a little pic.

It has too much fur on the face to be a poodle. This is what a poodle looks like.

This is what you need to look for - you can see both parents health tests etc

No it doesn’t. The hair can be left on the nose, or shaved off!

bakebeans · 17/02/2025 21:33

Red flag.
reputable breeders do not ask for more money.

bakebeans · 17/02/2025 21:35

Is the person registered as a breeder. If not you can report them

fandangored · 17/02/2025 22:05

@bakebeans yes they are registered as a breeder :/

Poodles are do not naturally have shorter fur on their faces. If they have a clean short muzzle it's because a groomer has shaved it! They are not born looking like this > 🐩

In their natural state they look like teddy bears with furry faces.

I'd say the OPs photo she asked about does indeed look like a miniature poodle or a poodle-cross which inherited a lot of poo.

OP- full poodles are wonderful dogs. Many people don't realise but they are the second most intelligent breed.
