I am NOT proceeding and am trying to get £200 back from my bank..

I have realised from talking to her, she has been awful, rushing things along and applying pressure tactics.

I also realise 10 mummy Cavs is FAR too many. She's only just sent address on her 'contract' it looks crappy and I don't believe she even lives there...

It's all not stacking up and I can't believe I have paid any money... I have also showed my kids the video of the puppy they are getting.. very disappointing..

Thank you all for some excellent advice here. I have read each and everyone and appreciate it massively. I am a first time owner and understand I need to research way more!!

cavapoos are not £2500!!!
more like £700-1k tops

ask on here for breeds - puppy farmers breed like that from 10 cavs! awful

walk away

No they’re not they charge a lot for them

Literallywingingit · 14/02/2025 18:52

The lack of insurance is massive red flag. If your vet does find anything it will be classed as a pre existing condition and you won’t be insured for it. Sanctuaries/rehoming centres often have their animals vaccinated, microchipped and insured and in some cases even neutered prior to rehoming and all at a massively reduced cost. If it is a particular breed you are after a lot of rehoming centres now have them due to everyone overbreeding.

If you find one for 700 it won't have health checked parents. If you pay more - it might.

Hello, I'm a professional puppy and dog trainer and I work with families (and individuals), finding, temperament testing and selecting the right breed for the family based on their circumstances, the age of the child/children within the home etc. If you were my client I would be strongly advising you to not make any further payments until you collect the puppy to take it home. Anything could go wrong between now and then and if so the chances are that you will never see your money again.
Please be very careful.

Actually it is hard, they come and inspect your premises and want years of accounts and isolation areas and inspection of the dogs and where they live etc food and where it’s prepared

It's not hard - as evidenced by just how many puppy farmers have them.

Getting a 5* licence is the the absolute bare minimum standard I would expect fellow breeders to adhere to tbh and having one does not make you a good breeder (given, as I have said, how easy it is for puppy farmers to get one).

As I said, gloating about it and claiming it's a mark of a good breeder is embarassing.

SoLongMae · 14/02/2025 19:54

Glad you're not going ahead. The fact she discourages a health check within the first 3 days was also a massive red flag (and the reason she gave was bullshit).

Lostinthewoods8 · 14/02/2025 20:03

When we had our litter, no reservation fee was taken until people had come to view the puppies, to see the different personalities and temperament, I REFUSED to take any holding fee for specific puppies until we met the family's and saw how they interacted with the puppies and the puppies with them. We had a few couples come to see a a specific puppy then choose a completely different one.

Mine came with KC papers, food, blankets and insurance, microchipped, and full vet check. I wouldn't be paying to reserve any puppy or dog I hadn't seen in person with the bitch and where they were kept, we had an open door policy that families were welcome to come and see the puppy they had reserved as many times before collection.

But late to the party on this, but VERY glad to know you have pulled out of buying one of this breeders puppies. There are SO MANY red flags in what she has been emailing/demanding of you.. puppy farming is an evil business and the people involved are unscrupulous shysters. I hope you get your deposit money back.
Apologies if this has already been said but, just a thought, if you MUST have a particular breed of dog, why not call in to your local vets, make an appointment & talk to a vet about the best places to find reputable breeders? Given you'll be paying ££££s on a pedigree puppy it's worth putting in some f2f legwork, not just reading stuff (including reviews, sooo open to fakery) online.
I just feel so sorry for the poor puppies that woman is selling.
it might be worth passing the info you have about her-emails etc-to your local RSPCA/SSPCA. They have a big campaign about puppy farming and make use of intel from the public.

FallenRaingel · 13/02/2025 08:14

You go withdraw it

Don't. All the signs are that this breeder is dodgy-possibly a front for puppy farming. The fact that she has said -don't take the puppy to a vet, its not insured, she wants cash and so many other details..the OP needs to cut her losses and walk away now.
i just feel sorry for the poor puppies that breeder is selling. Chances are they are from a puppy farm, and it's an evil business.

admirible · 14/02/2025 20:22

Why are you buying a dog from a breeder, there are plenty of dogs in rescue or foster that need good homes.

tattychicken · 14/02/2025 20:25

Well done!! Definitely the right decision. The right pup is out there for you and your family, and will be worth the wait.

Highfivemum · 14/02/2025 20:32

“many tears animal rescue”. Please consider them. They have lots of dogs that come from breeders. Including unsold puppies. Fabulous charity. I have a cavapoo. Yes you’re right they are a fab breed but I did not pay that sort of money. Mine was a puppy rescue.
you have done the right thing

GreekDogRescue · 14/02/2025 20:33

It’s so depressing that people are paying puppy farmers thousands of pounds when rescues are full to overflowing.

WillIEverBeOk · 14/02/2025 20:37

You could have done the proper thing and adopted a dog from the pound and given a puppy in need a good life instead of paying money for a breeding mill. Sorry but you deserve any financial loss that is coming your way.

My son has been waiting ages poor thing.. looking for a good puppy breeder has been a nightmare!!

My son has been waiting ages poor thing

You could have just ducked down to the local animal rescue today. You did not think to do the proper and moral thing and go to a rescuer? I hope your son won't learn from you cruel and immoral examples.

Lots of rescues don’t allow children under a certain age to have a rescue dog .

NippyNinjaCrab · 14/02/2025 20:46

@fandangored everyone was a first time owner at some point with their dog journey. I wouldn't encourage anymore contact with this woman. That aside you need to think very very carefully about your decision in getting a puppy. Why are you getting a dog in the first instance? What is your current daily life like? There are so many questions, a list that's not exhaustive and these are questions a reputable breeder would ask a prospective owner of their puppies. You need to ask why you have chosen this particular mix of breeds? Because it's cute?

Take a huge step back and put this on hold for a few months. Research breeds suitable for your life and kids and home, then check out Champdogs for breeders, attend Crufts and go to the discover dogs stands when the breeds you're interested in are there. You can have a good chat to experienced owners and breeders and they will tell you the absolute truth about their breed of dog. Actually research what your chosen breed is used for, what's its job, they're not just to cuddle and pet, you want to get enjoyment out your dog. Good luck. 🐾🐾

FranticFrankie · 14/02/2025 20:48

£2,500!!! Wow. And 10 bitches! This does sound dodgy
It was suspected that my rescue dog came from a puppy farm.
Most rescues match you with a suitable dog, although true that some won’t re-home dogs to families with children
Worth a look online - good luck OP

All Cavapoo are this price!!

What breed better small good with kids??

Poodle?

Can't have a big dog!

I wonder why she doesn't mention the boy puppies having a BVA check up...?!

For heavens sake, buy a pedigree dog. Poodles come in 3 sizes. They are happy, easy intelligent dogs and cost a sensible amount of money from proper, experienced breeders with good ethics. Pedigree puppies (unless rare breed, or difficult to produce breeds) cost much less than trendy cross breeds and you know what you will be getting. Ask any vet and they will tell you that spaniel/poodle crosses have many more health problems than pure poodles and spaniels. The idea that they are healthier is rubbish and based on the old ‘Heinz’ variety dogs of old (where many, breeds are mixed in there over decades). Then go on to ask any experienced groomer and they will tell you that cross breeds coats are more difficult to manage than poodle, or spaniel coats, as there is often a mix of wool (poodle) and hair (spaniel). Despite the common notion that they hypoallergenic, most are not. Only the small number who only inherit the poodle coat will be.

So, buy a pedigree dog and in doing so, pay less, be treated better (by a longstanding breeder) have fewer potential and and an uncomplicated coat.

Adopt an adult dog and you avoid all that uncertainty

Eh what?
Tell that to my neighbours who adopted an adult dog to find out 2 weeks later it was completely reactive to people on bikes. They had it PTS after it bit twice - badly.

And my DD's neighbour who adopted an adult dog a few years ago which, five weeks later, bit her on the face. Quite a nasty bite too!

Oh come on, that rubbish and nasty. Plenty of rescue dogs are not suitable for families with young children and plenty of rescues won’t allow dogs to go to families with young children. This is due to the risk of being sued if the dog bites a young child.

Then lie or go without. Nothing in this world will ever excuse buying from a puppy mill farm. Ever. I don't know what its like in the UK but here in our 'local rag' we have people advertising that their dog has had puppies and they're in the giveaway section for animals.

There are puppies for giveaway, it doesn't have to be an adult dog.
