Playing a joke on DP. Would it be too cruel?

I posted this in chat too, not sure where it fit best.

There is an island off Venice that is supposed to be the most haunted place on earth. It is completely abandoned and has this old hospital on it etc.

DP really wants to go and has suggested the we holiday in Venice, hire a boat and go across to this island to take photos and have a look around.

I thought it would be hilarious to agree to this, get him across there then "loose" him on the island and take the boat back to the mainland leaving him there for the night.

Do you think this would be going too far, dangerous etc? I'd love to do it and I'm sure he'd laugh about it afterwards...? I'm unsure what to do. We would be going with friends so we're thinking of leaving him and his mate there so he wouldn't be totally alone.

A tiny island between Venice and Lido where, since Roman times, the diseased and plague-ridden were dumped.

During the three occasions that the Black Death spread across Europe, anyone showing signs of having it were dragged screaming from their homes; men, women, children and even babies were just hurled onto the island and left to die.

It is thought as many as 160,000 people died here, excluding those practicing Black Magic rituals over the past 200 years. There is no soil at all on the island - the plants are rooted in ash from the burned bodies of plague victims. The dust gets into your lungs and hangs in your chest as soon as you step on the island.

In 1922, a psychiatric hospital was built, and immediately patients saw ghosts of the dead. Being a psychiatric facility, they were not believed. The doctor there decided to make a name for himself by investigating their madness using crude lobotomies carried out using a hammer and chisel, or a basic hand drill.

After years of unholy torture, the doctor himself began seeing the ghosts of the rotting plague victims. The ghosts led him to the hospital steeple, where he (reportedly) hurled himself off. Miraculously, he didn't die, and later the nurses said they saw a fine mist enter his body and choke him to death.

Since that day, the island remains, unsurprisingly, uninhabited

I had a dream about this last night - my first MN dream. I dreamt I went to this island, and it turned out to be lovely. My first thought this morning was that I would have to post that I had been there! But of course I haven't.
