My therapist googled my daughter

Just started some psychotherapy as trying to process why my adult daughter who is struggling has again stopped speaking to me. In session 2 the therapist revealed that she had googled my daughter. I think this is not Ok. But not sure if this is now normal practice. Just asking for reality check in a wobbly time.

What if said therapist, googles your address and just happens to be in the area one day!!!.... RUN Op.. this whole scenario is eery.. reminds me of something from a movie!! Report the therapist and never go back to that one. Good luck with your DD OP hugs I'm guessing her hormones play a major part in her behaviour changes with you 🙏🏾 wishing you can have the type of relationship you want with your DD - you sound very kind and lovely Op 💕 Mums are literally our first and forever besties - it just takes some of us a bit longer to realise it. Rooting for DD to come around from this for you to not have to worry or engage in dodgy therapy.

I have a physchiatrist to but they've only ever done meds and diagnosed. I don't think what I do is that out of the ordinary I just think im the only one admitting it. Also when I say therapist I don't actually mean therapist I'm under the cmht and apart from my cpn which I know what that stands for the other mh workers have such random job titles that I never remember it's easier just to say therapy

No Differentstarts, this is not what a normal person does, not to the level you do. This is stalker material. Your need to know such level of detail, and the expressions you use such as "they can't hide" are very, very concerning. Please seek help.

I would suggest letting your psychiatrist know about the extent of your obsession with finding personal information about your MH specialists.

I don't know whether psychiatrist are different dependent on what trust your under but my psychiatrist has done nothing but prescribe meds and diagnose. Where I get my actual mh support from is from the cmht who iv told before and they just laugh and say lots of people do this even people without mental illness do this.

You misunderstand what psycotherapy is. It is not a process in which a therapist independently gathers information about a client's life.

Another “stalker” here. I tend to google a therapist whenever I’m thinking in using her/his services, same goes for a restaurant, a podiatrist or a masseuse.

No, I can’t care less about her living room decoration or the brand of her car, I care what others have to say about her/his skills as a therapist. It’s also useful to know if she’s published MH articles or books, it gives me a good idea of her/his interests, social causes, what she specialises in and if we might be a good match or not.

My comment was based on her doing all those things and her expression "no matter how much they try to hide, I always find them"

Well mine has always been and still is!! Not sure how mums can have any other kind of relationship with their DC's .. I appreciate some people should not have had children and are just terrible beings.. but this isnt a post for that so please just leave that where it is, Or create your own thread and chat about that there
