Unattractive Hobbies

There's this fake survey image that's been going around about the least attractive hobbies for men to have.

Are videogames are a red flag?
Preferable to taxidermy?

For me, gambling the worst one, as it's not a real hobby— it's something that can ruin your life.

Any grown man who plays video games deserves to be terminally single. Big babies.

What about grown women? Asking for a bunch of women in tech/gaming industry.

Luckily there are women who game who like men who game too and we take each other out of the dating pool.

None of those apart from gambling would put me off anyone. I'd rather someone plays video games than just passively stares at the TV or is a cycling bore.

Oh I love a quiet evening in with some online trolling and a glass of wine as a couple

(Check again, it's listed as a 'hobby' here)😂

What’s wrong with magic tricks? Sad

That was my fave on the list. It's fun and innocuous and probably not something that eats up every weekend.

Video games is a massive no for me. Very grateful to have a husband who doesn’t play them.

How is “online trolling” possibly a hobby?

Was “being a dick to people in person” on the list as well?

I don't think it was a real survey, the numbers are all too neat anyway. I think whoever made it had some point to make against videogames.

Dunno why bird watching made the list, I didn't think it was repugnant... though at least one person in this thread has mentioned it as a turnoff!

Honestly think this is the evening plans for some mumsnetters!

Rather a gamer than a football fan/pub goer any day of the week.

Like gambling is a hobby. Is using prostitutes a hobby? How about partaking in far right riots? Hobby or not? what a shitty survey. Haha.

My favourite hobbies in men would be

Music production
DIY
Erotic massage (on me only)
Cannabis farming
Cleaning
Extensive research to find decent movies or shows

Worst would be the first three I mentioned earlier.

Ohhh mine would be
Massage (erotic only when asked)
Moderate cleaning
Cooking healthy but tasty food daily
Conversational politics
Booking holidays
Gig and concert going
Sleeping weekly on the sofa hobby that means I get the whole bed to myself.

BloodandGlitter · 23/08/2024 20:51

Oof, I play video games guess I'm just a woman child who needs to grow up Sad
I collect bones too, and figures and I collect comic books and manga. Good job I met a man child to be a woman child with Grin

RawBloomers · 23/08/2024 20:58

A lot of these are closely associated with obsession to the exclusion of interest in other things (or people) and rigidity around doing them, which I think can be really unattractive.

I would be happy with any except the online trolling if it wasn't obsessive.

CortieTat · 23/08/2024 20:59

I’m surprised fishing and watching football are not on the list. I really like model trains.

mossylog · 23/08/2024 21:03

I think "videogames" is a bit broad. Are they exchanging slurs with 12 year olds on the telly and spaffing loads on loot boxes and costumes? Or is it something they have a handle on?

It's like "reading". I like reading novels and discussing them too, but there are some kinds of reading material that would be a turnoff.

Online trolling (Kyle’s Dad) and gambling are clearly worse than gaming but I’d say any hobby that men use solely as an excuse to avoid looking after their own kids on weekends/evenings to be unattractive regardless of what it is.

lazybrownfox · 23/08/2024 21:34

Taxidermy 😂😂😂 no thanks

outdamnedspots · 23/08/2024 22:02

Gambling and online trolling are not hobbies fgs.

But birdwatching is fab. More people should do it.

KaleQueen · 23/08/2024 22:09

Who are these people? I must live in an alternative universe. Or be very lucky. Never had a partner obsessed with any hobby, all just general run of the mill like watching football, bands, odd game of (bad) golf.

louderthan · 23/08/2024 22:27

I saw a post on Instagram taken from a Hinge prompt:
'Would you rather date a man who occasionally did crystal meth or was heavily into crystals?'
Had to think about that one for a while...!

ohthejoys21 · 23/08/2024 23:03

Any obsessive hobby is a pain. My adult ds games obsessively and I can't understand how his gf is ok with it.

Summertimer · 23/08/2024 23:07

Gambling and Online Trolling stand out as stuff that’s more sinister. How the latter is a hobby I’m not sure, unless what they mean is being interested a celebrity and their career - but that’s not really trolling

Also if women do it it’s the same?

HoppityBun · 23/08/2024 23:09

Online trolling is a hobby? As in something you’d put on your CV? It’s a pernicious activity.

CharlieUniformNovemberTangoYankee · 23/08/2024 23:10

When the fuck did online trolling become a hobby?

Summertimer · 23/08/2024 23:11

I think they might be thinking of Howard in Big Bang

Fridayfederica · 23/08/2024 23:11

I can’t believe LARPing didn’t make the list 😂

Scottishskifun · 23/08/2024 23:19

Gaming yep massive turn off. So is watching the football or playing golf.
