Unattractive Hobbies

There's this fake survey image that's been going around about the least attractive hobbies for men to have.

Are videogames are a red flag?
Preferable to taxidermy?

For me, gambling the worst one, as it's not a real hobby— it's something that can ruin your life.

I guess most of those are quite 'nerdy' hobbies. Pretty harmless but not if it gets in the way of life/relationship! You're right about gambling though.

None of those apart from gambling would put me off anyone. I'd rather someone plays video games than just passively stares at the TV or is a cycling bore.

Online trolling and gambling aren't hobbies. Both are highly unattractive.

Why isn't spending weekends in the pub watching football on there? Massively unattractive imo

Gambling should be at the top. Men who obsess about running and cycling are beyond tedious..

I'm not sure if the Harvard Business Review is as prestigious as it sounds, but it reports "There’s increasingly compelling evidence that video games are actually good for our brains." Doesn't make men playing it attractive to "women", though.

Are the figurines related to the video games?

The only ones which would bother me would be gambling, trolling and taxidermy.

as it happens I married a gamer, absolutely love it! I know where he is at night (in the living room), I always have something to buy him at Xmas and I’m left in peace to read my books 😂😂😂.

Dating somebody with “geeky” hobby is massively underrated in my opinion. I wouldn’t be interested in someone who played sports all weekend leaving me to deal with the kids alone for long periods of time.

Gambling, online trolling and taxidermy are definitely unattractive. But so are hobbies that involves all weekend every weekend being eaten up: football and golf come to mind.

I wonder if the figurines were like the Star Wars ones, or the little soldiers you can paint.

I've dated 'normal' gamers and problematic gamers. The men in their 30s who scream, rage quit and throw the controllers aren't attractive I'm always a bit wary when a date says they're a gamer but try not to let myself tar everyone with my bad experiences.

Gambling, taxidermy and online trolling would be definite nos, also hunting of any kind and possibly fishing. Anything else is fine (or not fine!) it all depends on whether they go on about it constantly and/or spend all their time on it to the detriment of other stuff they should be doing.

Gaming is deeply unattractive to me. So is golf. Or watching boxing/wrestling. I would be very happy with magic tricks, model trains and bird watching.

Couldn’t agree more with the list to be honest! Apart from putting gambling at number one for the reason you stated, OP. Wouldn’t entertain the idea of dating a man who liked to play video games. I’m sure that me thinking that would put those men off me too - which work very well. Unlike most of Mumsnet though, I love men who exercise as snobby (because I do too) and it excites me! There’s no point us all wanting to date the same people though so who actually cares 😂

I would love a man who cycled or ran. Sadly Dh is a couch potato, more or less. But at least he doesn't play video games or gamble or stuff animals or troll online.

Like gambling is a hobby. Is using prostitutes a hobby? How about partaking in far right riots? Hobby or not? what a shitty survey. Haha.

My favourite hobbies in men would be

Music production
DIY
Erotic massage (on me only)
Cannabis farming
Cleaning
Extensive research to find decent movies or shows

Worst would be the first three I mentioned earlier.

Running or cycling are not problems per se.
It just seems to be my bad luck to work with men who can find nothing else to talk about!

Totally misread gambling as gardening. Couldn't understand what was so offensive about my H's rhododendron habit!

Gardening, cooking and interior decorating are all pretty attractive hobbies.
Dh does one of those at any rate.

Trains are wonderful. Pete Waterman has an amazing train layout. I’d love to have that.

figurine collecting is ghastly. Can’t think of anything more awful to have on display in my home than Star Wars or marvel figurines (unless in a kids room)
