Tell other woman husband of affair

Thoroughthought · 22/08/2024 11:33

I don’t really have people around me that I can talk to about this so I’ve decided to try this. I’m still hurting and I can’t move on without a final step of closure.
My husband had an affair two years ago. It lasted for a year and a half and I was blindsided. Found out by chance by my car not matching his phone. Dealing with the gaslighting lying and pain whilst over months discovering that each detail was worse than the version sold to me before. We have three children. The pain caused by my husband is not the reason why I am writing. I am writing because in my learning of this… I read messages that stay with me because of the nasty character of husband but also the woman involved. Hurtful things they shared about me. Discussions about my body, pubic hair, our sex lives, my personal life, work, loss of my baby for example. Messages where she nastily encouraged my husband not to buy me a gift for my birthday (which he agreed with to her but did anyway) and I can’t undo what I’ve read in this catastrophic soul destroying dialogue over the years that I was caring for our young children unknowingly of this deceit. I thought we were happily married and think my husband is a psychopath. On the other woman- I can’t let it go that she had contact with my children and sent them gifts.- some of which I even thanked her for over the phone. The reason why I write this is because whereas I am navigating the storm that is my husband and know he is abusive. I have thought endlessly about how I can get closure and I feel that after so much ruminating…. I know… or at least feel that closure for me, as weird as this seems … please bare with… is that I need to tell the husband/partner of the woman of the affair. I want him to know what she was doing and that it was not just their affair but also the nasty steps taken to unnecessarily cause me (and no doubt him unnecessary humiliation and pain). I’m sure he is not aware. I have battled with this for over two years as my closure because too hurt for words but understand myself better now. Being unable to find a way for full peace. Sometimes the pain of what I read, thrives in me, it’s less now but it cuts deep to think (aside from the obvious with my husband) that a woman exists that attempted to dismantle my children’s lives purposefully, unkindly… pitching my husband against my daughter. I didnt really want to involve myself but I’m set that this is the way I can put this behind me finally- by shifting the messages and affair back to her - where they belong. I want to be truthful with him about the restaurants the coffee shops, the days out, the sexual talk, the degrading of me and him, the meet ups and the fact she became pregnant and had a termination. The reasons for this are- I cannot get over her involvement with my children (phone calls with my young daughter) and the nastiness she put into our lives. I believe it is one thing to have an affair with a man (obviously unacceptable his behavior- but I think it’s a whole different thing to be actively trying to destroy the wife, the children and that is unfortunately what I have read from the messages and contact I have seen - I think of the painful arguments we had where I felt he was being unfair to my daughter- now knowing how these were being spurred by her dialogue that he wasn’t being “tough enough”.. etc She even messaged my husband the week we lost our baby enquiring about my mental health and proposed meeting times in the delicate time after (which were agreed to). I can’t let go of the fact that such nasty people exist in this world and how much she involved herself in my life unbeknownst to me, . Even messages laughing at me and using code phrases to indicate that either I or her husband were around. I feel that for whatever deficiencies I have as a person, I need to throw all of this madness back into her life and, by doing so, out of my head.

is it okay for me to expose affair to her husband so he is better informed?

Thank you. To provide some context, social services have been helping me through this with my children. I wasn’t being unkind. I have now decided not to do this as I can see that it wouldn’t come across in the intended way. Thank you- it’s been helpful having the replies. I won’t do that.
in terms of husband, yes. It’s over now. He walked out again in another one of his “going to my parents house” so… did the job for me.
no matter what the subject matter has been, and some of the replies have hurt others have been more understanding. I do just want to thank you for writing here because as exampled above, some things don’t always come across well and I’d like to avoid that, I can make some changes and appreciate some different perspectives. Thank you.

I know it will be hard and take time, but wishing you the best with your new life!

FetaCheeseManiac · 29/08/2024 12:50

So, he’s gone to his parents. Keep a detailed diary now of what he does. The facts.

Don’t let him come back in. Pack up his stuff, try and keep it on the emotional down low, and tell him “I think we’ll both be happier apart, so I think we should end it now. I’ll drop the rest of your things off at your mums (don’t encourage him to come to your house), and then we can sort out when you want to see the kids”.

Then pack up his stuff.

DysonSphere · 29/08/2024 13:13

Fantastic OP!😊 Though still sad obvs💐 but I'm glad you've found your strength it is though.

Pack up his stuff and get Uber to ferry them to his parents' house. Don't you do it for him.

What kind of man rushes to his parents house every 5 minutes?!

Omgblueskys · 29/08/2024 14:56

Change the locks , send his belongings on,

Catoo · 29/08/2024 15:09

Focus on you and DC now OP. All your energy into getting him out permanently and starting to heal.

Get legal advice - make an appointment today. Don’t waste any time moving it forward. Take control.

In a few months when you are rebuilding without him, you will look back at this and wonder how it was that you let him get you to such a desperate place.

💐

Dery · 29/08/2024 16:12

Beautiful advice from @Catoo

Thanks for the update, OP. It’s horrible that you’ve been in this position but now he’s gone you will start to be able to recover.

Omgblueskys · 29/08/2024 14:56

Change the locks , send his belongings on,

Yes this. Get everything in place as much as possible, for when he tries to come home. Locks changed, finances in order, appointment with divorce lawyer etc.

Thoroughthought · 30/08/2024 00:54

thabk you- thank you. I’ve opened up so much on here… forgive me but may I ask for opinion on one last thing that worries me before I do this…

what if the OW husband is so angry that he tries to hurt my husband upon knowing? In light of the things I would be sharing, what if this other person is led by sudden emotion and my children could be caught up in more of this. I don’t know him at all… just first name and address.

i think this is also what has held me back for 2 years that I feel crumbled. Can I please say something that may be offensive but is not intended to be, I genuinely feel a little scared. they don’t live in a very nice area are in a different social environment my husband has told me he is a weed smoker and that if he found out he may retaliate (said in the past). I obviously don’t know what the truth is but I do feel that I may turn up there and be in an environment that is totally different to my own. It’s an estate in Southwark.

I can build up the courage and do it but I’m not going to pretend that this is anything but… petrifying for me. Most importantly, what if my children saw something bad after or get caught up in retaliation. Is this the higher ground? Taking this hit to protect any chance of repercussions from a person/people that I don’t know?

I have a streak in me that can do it- I am struggling and do feel like I’m in shock still… I am very aware of the abuse I have suffered now- Can’t even imagine allowing another man to be close to my children who isn’t their father so imagine being alone for a long time just to be the best mum I can be… I know that this means I will be going at it alone- I’m soul destroyed and live a life where I do have to pretend to be okay. My soul is shaking. Single mum of three… can’t begin to think about how I’m going to manage navigating life with a professional career, baby and two others at different ages.

clearly, she is nasty.. is it likely that he might be too? I feel no inclination to be violent towards the OW… I’m just broken and feel that I want the truth out there. What if he is different? Is the risk too high given what I feel are the extreme circumstances of unpleasantness in her?

Do what ever feels the safest OP. That's the one that will let you sleep at night.

An ex Southwark child from long ago. x

Thoroughthought · 30/08/2024 01:19

I’m so sorry- I’ve tried to edit this to remove the Southwark reference. I know better than to suggest living in any area is a bad thing. Even the estate part. I’m sorry. Lots going through my head but thank you for your kind reply.

OP posts:
Catoo · 30/08/2024 01:20

I thought you had decided not to do this OP. Honestly, you don’t sound well when you talk about telling her husband.

Please don’t do it. Yes he could come looking for your husband. He could hurt him. He could turn up at your door and all your neighbours get to hear. And your DC could be scared. He could beat his wife or worse. He could leave his wife and then she would be free to contact your H again and tell him how nuts you are and read the letter to him. It could inadvertently rekindle their relationship as they meet up to discuss it all.

But more likely, his wife warned him 2 years ago that you are nuts and that you incorrectly think she had an affair with your H. Or he may already know and has decided to stay like you did. He might call the police on you if he sees you near his house.

Why risk any of it? It won’t undo the damage that has been done. It might cause more upset for your DC. It will make you look very desperate two years on.

The people who have encouraged you to do this won’t have to live with the consequences.

Focus on what is important now. Creating a stable home for you and DC. Getting a quick separation and divorce settled. Counselling to help you move on. You don’t need any more unpredictable drama.

Catoo · 30/08/2024 01:25

Please also make a GP appointment tomorrow OP.

💐

Cural · 30/08/2024 01:28

OP I I grew up on a Southwark estate, no offence taken at all. Just don't take any risks with your peace of mind, it's just not worth it. Move on if you can. Flowers

HollyKnight · 30/08/2024 03:50

I dunno. Would a woman risk having a long affair if her husband was a nutcase? And is your husband selfish and stupid enough to risk a beating by a nutcase by shagging a nutcase's wife? Personally, I would still do it and keep the cheating bastard away from me. Let him deal with the fallout of his actions.

Taluulaah · 30/08/2024 04:29

I’ve been watching your thread since the beginning, and firstly I’d just like to say I’m sorry you’ve had to go through all of this, that your husband hurt you so terribly and created this ongoing trauma, it’s very clear to see that you’ve been hurt and frustrated and sad for sometime because of his actions. i really hope you can find some peace with this - and maybe telling OW’s husband will help you in that goal.
I see you continue to refer to telling the husband as “retaliation” or undignified etc, but can I just say, that I (and I’m sure many others) would have told OW’s husband right away, not out of retaliation but out of respect for them. IMO, it is the right thing to do. I would want to be told if my husband/partner was playing away from home, and I’d be thankful to whoever told me, even if it was OW herself.
Stop beating yourself up over this. You’ve done nothing wrong, you’re doing nothing wrong - infact it could be argued that by letting OWs husband know, you’re actually doing the right thing. I believe it should have been done a long time ago, but better late than never.
However if you feel it will cause more harm than good, you have to do what is going to be best for you in the long run. Dont expose yourself to anymore hurt if you don’t have to.
For the record, you do not appear undignified in any way. You’ve held it together despite everything that’s happened to you and around you, things that were by no means any fault of yours. You’ve been thrust into a whirlwind and you’ve handled it gracefully and with your head up. Be kinder to yourself. And tell the husband. Get this weight off your shoulder. I hope it helps you move on from the pain your ex husband caused.
Sending strength to get thru this next step. And a big hug!

InevitableNameChanger · 30/08/2024 07:48

It's always totally fine to tell other people about an affair. You owe the cheats nothing. The fall out is the risk they took when they started cheating.

However, the person you must look after first and foremost is yourself (and your children). So only tell the husband if you feel you have the headspace to.

There's serious complaints I should have made to a hospital but haven't because I just didn't have the headspace, and I am at peace with that now.

But there is never anything wrong with exposing nasty cheats.

FetaCheeseManiac · 30/08/2024 08:03

It’s always said that the OW owes you nothing.
That works both ways, you owe her nothing.
She took a wrecking ball to your marriage, as did your now exH. Telling the DH because it’ll help you, and give her DH the truth is the right thing for you. It’s none of your concern, nor your fault, if the DH gets upset.

I hate the way it’s OP’s family life and MH that’s been ripped apart but people are more concerned about the ex and the OW’s welfare.

DysonSphere · 30/08/2024 08:13

Leafy Green Southwark resident here😂

Gentrification means half the estates are filled with mortgage payers so they could be totally MC and own their own flat. Though I admit from your further description it sounds unlikely.

Now my initial response to your DH possibly being in the line of fire is: That's his lookout, don't play with fire if you don't want to get burned. Did he think about YOUR safety? The possibility of this woman's husband finding out and turning up to your door while he's out?

But there's another thought. Now you know what type of people they're likely to be, why even bother now? It sounds as if the woman in question is seriously lacking in many ways and may have a bit of a rough life, perhaps this is what drove some of her nastiness. She is not competition. Now way. Deep down she probably knows it

You are better off and a better woman too. You are above this woman.

I would park this for a while, while you seek support, then make a decision on it later.

And despite much misogynistic political and social rhetoric, there's nothing wrong with being a single mother. Yes it is challenging, but take it from me, it's nowhere near as tough as living with an abusive man who sucks you dry mentally, emotionally and materialistically, leaving you a shadow of yourself and a dried out husk. Too many women are happy to stick around in totally dysfunctional coupledom for fear of being defined as a SM.

Honestly it becomes easier and you will surprise yourself OP, I don't even think you'd be a SM for too long. Not one woman I know who is/was a SM hasn't gone on to meet nice men. Some have chosen to remain single through choice, but not circumstance. Get your DXH on a baby pick up rota. Go for the maximum. None of this pick up once every two weeks nonsense. Every week he has the children. Gives you some 'you' time.

Wishing you all the best. You've made a mighty step forward. Really impressed. Keep stepping forward.

@FetaCheeseManiac I think most posters have been supporting the OP. Haven’t seen many posts concerned about the OW and the ex?

The vast majority are on OPs side.

CitronellaDeVille · 30/08/2024 08:59

Honestly OP?

Escalation of various unhelpful kinds is always a possibility in any kind of revenge action.

I would not be waiting repeatedly on any unfamiliar estate to ambush him with a letter. And letting him see what you look like. Or risk bumping into her.

They are the ones in the wrong, you are the one hurting, why should you be at further risk?

You will be on people’s ring doorbells, she could report you for harassment… anything. The DH could turn his anger on you, she could claim to her DH that your DH co erced her… bad people have a habit of making yet more bad things happen.

I would seek help for your (understandable) feelings and focus your energy on building the best , healthy , safe life for your kids. Leave your H and everything about his shameful behaviour behind you.

FastCaar · 30/08/2024 09:01

I've changed my mind. Do not go trying to ambush OW's partner on a Southwark housing estate @Thoroughthought

Agree. Those of us saying don’t tell the husband absolutely don’t give a flying fuck about OW or her husband. It’s not about protecting them.

We care about the extra and unpredictable fall out for OP if she goes ahead.

Also, OP has no obligation whatsoever to ‘do the right thing by the husband’ especially when the consequences for OP could mean more trouble for OP through absolutely no fault of her own.

We also are not convinced it will make OP feel better. It’s fairly obvious that OW will contact OP’s husband if she does this. And that could mean some very ugly scenes for OP and her DC and certainly won’t be good for OP’s mental health.

After waiting two years, it won’t matter if OP waits a little longer until she has managed to LTB and set up a new life with DC. Maybe she will tell him then. Maybe not.
If so, I really hope it isn’t by turning up with a letter to their home.

Exactly the ow might actually decide its time you got psychical with eachother never mind your husband 🤷‍♀️ and again did you take this prince off someone else? Because if you did you reep what you sow tbh.

FerociousGerbil · 30/08/2024 11:25

OP... as someone who has been through infidelity, you are displaying all of the classic signs of long term emotional & psychological abuse. I'm sorry to be the bearer of that news. But if you're totally honest with yourself, you likely know that.

You do not deserve any of this and none of this is your fault. Your husband's mind is broken and likely was, long before you met him. You are not responsible for another adult human's psychological (or any sort) of well-being. His suicidal ideations are his responsibility and likely is a manipulation tactic. He wasn't suicidal while having sex with another woman.

The first thing you need to do is cut off all contact with your husband (as much as possible with kids), look up a communication style called grey rock and then take time by yourself. Surround yourself with people who love and care for you genuinely and let them care for you for a change.

You will not want to hear this but the ultimate best option for you and your children is for you to leave that abusive man. No one deserves to be treated like he has to you. I promise you.... promise... that a day will come where you are shocked at what you allowed to happen.

So firstly, remove yourself from his presence, contact loved ones and get the support YOU need. You cannot care for your kids properly until you care for yourself. I wish you all the best OP and trust me, you will feel happy again!
