I tend to ignore it

Most decent people will not be afraid to identify themselves will they

I answer it. When people who work at our local hospital and my GP practice call me they hide their numbers, or use one which comes up on my phone as “unknown.”

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 29/05/2024 11:57

I answer as it usually is school or medical.

ARichtGoodDram · 29/05/2024 11:57

I answer. Many big switchboards come up as unknown and my youngest has too many medical appointments to ignore them.

If it’s telesales or the likes can just hang up.

Momstermunch · 29/05/2024 11:59

I answer it. Spam calls generally have a number attached to them.

If it's nonsense I just end the call. I don't really get the fear about private calls

flannelonthesink · 29/05/2024 12:01

I ignore it and if it's a genuine call they'll tend to leave a voicemail or send an email.

Willmafrockfit · 29/05/2024 12:01

it is normally a GP calling

BobnLen · 29/05/2024 12:01

I have silence unknown callers on so hopefully it does just that

Jeezitneverends · 29/05/2024 12:02

How did all the private number ignorers cope in the days of landlines with no caller ID?🤣

Muddle200 · 29/05/2024 12:04

Sounds like medical people ok but what if you have not asked them to call

OP posts:
BobnLen · 29/05/2024 12:05

My landline goes straight to voicemail, there weren't so many scammers in the old days, all calls on my landline have been scammers recently

Redglitter · 29/05/2024 12:05

I always answer calls with private numbers. Tends to be my GP or work.

Calls from numbers I don't recognise, I ignore

RuthW · 29/05/2024 12:06

I answer 'blank' call but not an unknown. Mobile.

theteddybear · 29/05/2024 12:06

I ignore every time unless I'm expecting a call from someone. If it's important they always leave a message the easiest way to weed out the spam/scam calls!

BobnLen · 29/05/2024 12:07

Are you doing anything that would need a medical call, general stuff is usually texts from the GP

SamW98 · 29/05/2024 12:08

I don’t answer numbers I don’t recognise. If they are genuinely trying to contact me they’ll leave a voicemail and I’ll call back

ConflictedCheetah · 29/05/2024 12:09

I'm old school. I answer my phone, almost always, if it rings (assuming I'm available and not in a work call or something). Only time I don't is where Vodafone flag it as probable spam number but that's rare.

I answer it and if it's spam, I hang up.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 29/05/2024 12:10

Honestly? I answer it but always with some trepidation! 😁 Same goes for numbers I don't recognise but don't appear to be spam (not being flagged up by my phone as such).

DaisyHaites · 29/05/2024 12:11

I answer it… and end the call whenever I want…

BobnLen · 29/05/2024 12:12

I hate phones disturbing my peace

RhubarbAndFlustered · 29/05/2024 12:12

Answer it. It's usually a dental/medical related caller. And if it's scammers, I like to play with them a bit and see if I can infuriate them.

BobbyBiscuits · 29/05/2024 12:13

Nearly all crappy calls centres now have a number that shows up when they call, even if it's a dummy line you can't ring back. Just to cut down people avoiding unknown caller.
So now I tend to think it's the NHS or something medical so would probably answer. They're increasingly rare now I find.

gannett · 29/05/2024 12:14

I ignore private numbers. If it's important there are many, many ways people can get hold of me if they really need to.

TorroFerney · 29/05/2024 12:15

Muddle200 · 29/05/2024 11:56

Most decent people will not be afraid to identify themselves will they

But an individual working for an organisation using their telephone system won't have any control over what number flashes up on your phone.

Is your question more that you are fearful of a certain call and you think they are deliberately withholding their no to get you to answer?

CurlewKate · 29/05/2024 12:17

I answer. But in many ways I am not a typical mumsnetter!
