Without going into it I'm leaving an abusive H now. I have 4 hours max. to pack. I have somewhere to go.

My brain cannot think.
I know I should be doing not posting here. I've been standing here with an empty rucksack in my hands for 10 minutes or more.

What do I need to take? It is only me, I have a medium sized family car which I can fill.

All docs are with my solicitor.

Stuff - clothes, toiletries - can be replaced. Pack enough to do you for a few days, plus anything special you would really miss. Take a warm practical coat, sensible dry footwear.

Anything that holds memories - photographs, jewellery, sentimental items - take that if you can access quickly and safely. Those are the things that can’t be replaced.

I know you’ve said documents are with solicitor, and that’s great - does that include financial stuff?

Honestly, my focus would be on getting out as quickly as possible.

Best of luck.

lovelychops · 10/11/2023 21:29

Do you have much stuff ? Any medication? Please just stay safe and get out quickly x

Highlyflavouredgravy · 10/11/2023 21:29

Passport!

chocolateisavegetable · 10/11/2023 21:30

Assuming solicitor has passport and birth certificate - toothbrush, toothpaste, mobile phone, portable charger if you have one with cable, bank cards, any cash, driving licence, underwear, change of clothes, hairbrush.

if you can be tracked with your mobile phone, eg iPhone - turn off the app

I wish you all the very best

AbacusAvocado · 10/11/2023 21:31

Do it in this order:

  • any medication
  • your photos, special ornaments or mementos
  • anything you own that is valuable (laptop, iPad, etc)
  • phone and other chargers
  • cosmetics (toothpaste, toothbrush, shower gel, etc)
  • Your clothes
  • your household goods (saucepans etc)
KG1145 · 10/11/2023 21:31

Anything in the dirty washing baskets. You know it fits as you've worn it recently and it's right for the time of year. You'll have a couple of full outfits there without having to think too much.

Take care and wishing you all the best

LividMush · 10/11/2023 21:33

Good luck.

Take anything that can’t be replaced. And enough clothes for a few days.
Towels
medication
makeup
passport
Chargers
any pictures on the walls you’d miss
knickers and bras
warm coats
change of shoes
bank cards
book/laptop/work stuff

If you’re going to a hotel, knife fork plate cup spoon

Best of luck. You can do this, and update us when you’re safe.

Weenurse · 10/11/2023 21:34

Bibonelove · 10/11/2023 21:35

As above ,but want to send you a big hug, Good Luck x

Firsttimemum120 · 10/11/2023 21:38

I’d fill the car with as much as I could but please don’t leave the car anywhere he will find it and know your inside of! Hide the car and yourself the best you can. But take as much as you can if not all of your things.

CyberCritical · 10/11/2023 21:38

Just you or children too?

If children then favourite toys/books/clothes, anything that gives them comfort.

isthewashingdryyet · 10/11/2023 21:39

Bin bag, scoop up everything. I could fill my car with my possessions in an hour using bin bags and scooping.

well done on getting out.

declutteringmymind · 10/11/2023 21:42

Phone passport birth cert driving licence qualifications

Money, vouchers anything of value

Anything sentimental

Warm clothes especially coats, a few of everything else.

Then just go and be free. You may be able to return with someone to get the rest.

FoleyHuck · 10/11/2023 21:43

Different scenario (storm damaged property) but I did this last weekend.

  • A suitcase or two with the clothes you wear most often, and don't forget the dirty laundry as a pp mentioned above. Don't forget underwear, sleepwear, active / gym wear if you have it.
  • Shoes and coats.
  • Tech & chargers. Phone, kindle, laptop, headphones, smartwatch etc.
  • Make up, perfume, toiletries etc but don't prioritise, these are easily replaced if required.
  • Anything valuable or sentimental. Photographs, gifts, jewellery etc
  • Some comforts, hobby items or things that calm you. Don't underestimate it. We're in temporary accommodation right now and something as simple as having our own familiar bedding, our own mugs for tea (and for me a jigsaw and my jigsaw board!) has made us feel much less adrift.

Good luck OP. You're doing the right thing x

StephZ12 · 10/11/2023 21:44

Few other suggestions: address book, photo albums, warm coat, shoes/trainers, hairdryer, favourite books. Good luck x

theajon · 10/11/2023 22:03

Sorry to be rude, not going to @ everyone to save time.
Have passport.

Solicitor has all financial.

Jewellery and photos good ideas, done.

What do I need? I can't think what I wear every day.

Yes I have a lot of things inc. furniture and I own % of house.
This is what do I take now?

OP posts:
Wallywobbles · 10/11/2023 22:09

Where are you going to? Do you need stuff for work? Will you have space?

Cables for electronics. And the electronics. So laptop phone plugs chargers.

If you have room. Empty clothes into bin bags from drawers and cupboards.

Coats by the door.

Just pile it all in bags by the door. Call someone to help you load up.

I think of my body from the feet up so:
Shoes
Socks
Trousers
Pants
Bras
T-shirts
Jumpers.
Coat
Waterproofs
Handbag
Workbag.

Files of important stuff.

declutteringmymind · 10/11/2023 22:10

All warm clothes that fot. Plus under wear and hat gloves and scarf.

declutteringmymind · 10/11/2023 22:10

That fit. Sorry. And some pyjamas

StephZ12 · 10/11/2023 22:12

Extra random bits:
Bedding?
Books with passwords or notes written in.
Work stuff/ uniform
Special occasion outfits you don't want to lose
Wellies/winter boots
Bank cards
Extra proof of address in case you need it
Favourite music

FoleyHuck · 10/11/2023 22:13

Ok, some of these you might not have / frequently wear but use it as a methodical checklist. Open a suitcase and if you have it / wear it then throw it in.

Jeans
Trousers
Leggings / joggers
Skirts
Dresses
T-shirts
Vests
Jumpers / hoodies
Cardigans
Shirts
Blouses
Work uniform if you wear one
Gym wear
Swimwear
Underwear
Pyjamas / nightwear
Tights
Socks
Shoes / boots / trainers / slippers
Coats / jackets
Hats / scarves / gloves

PossiblyPertunia · 10/11/2023 22:13

Honestly, take as much of your stuff as physically possible!

MiseryGutt · 10/11/2023 22:15

PC/laptop/iPad any electronics that may have you logged into accounts/contain photos you don't want to lose/emails etc etc.

These days can be just as crucial as the documents.

If it's a desktop PC then even if you can only grab the box part do it. Screens etc are easy to come by but you don't want to lose your data. Xx

Papillon23 · 10/11/2023 22:20

Personally I'd prioritise as follows:

  1. Paperwork
  1. Medication
  2. Irreplaceable sentimental stuff.
3a Electronics
  1. A week or two of practical clothes (or if you have a car and it's quicker just empty the wardrobe and drawers into binbags).
  2. Things that will be expensive to replace - good boots, good coats, things like expensive knives/saucepans if you have space and time.
  3. Anything you particularly love from the house? A favourite blanket or a particularly nice pillow or a bit of art.

Edited to add eletronics!

LightSpeeds · 10/11/2023 22:21

Good luck OP! Thinking of you xx
