My relationship with DP is hanging by a thread. He looked into my internet cache and found...

... 16 GB of cached MN pages.

He had to take my hard disk into his work (he's an IT geek) and delete them all. Took him 6 hours.

He has been sniggering at me all day.

Not helped by my throwing a hissy fit at the weekend and insisting that we had to get a new computer as mine was unacceptably slow. It seems to be working a bit better now

Ha ha!

How do you "cache" pages? Is it something I could have done unintentionally - My PC's very slow at the moment.

dressedupnowheretogo · 04/03/2008 18:42

ROFL

I knew you liked your words, but keeping 16gb of words on a page is a little excessive

FloraPosteschild · 04/03/2008 18:44

Surely you can go into internet options and delete them?

Or is 16GB just too humungous for an ordinary Pc to handle?!!

pedilia · 04/03/2008 18:45

Select Tools on the menu bar.
Select Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files ... button.
A small window will open, click OK.
Under Temporary Internet Files, click Settings button.
Under Check for newer versions of stored pages, select Every visit to the page.
Click OK.
Click OK again to close.

policywonk · 04/03/2008 18:45

Apparently you can limit your cache, but my limiter was falling down on the job. You can check by... er.... um.... having a DP who works in IT?

Will ask him to clarify and post later.

I'll never be able to look his workmates in the eyes again.

If you've got a Mac, go to "empty cache" when you're on the interwebs ... And your cache is emptied. Though I am not technical and this may not get rid of all your 16GBs ...

Blu · 04/03/2008 18:46

Oh, bloody hell, you have created panic, now, PW.

Could I have done this at work?

Our system is being looked at for slowness!

Does cacheing (whatever it is) happen automatically?

princessmel · 04/03/2008 18:46

What does it mean? Do you have to save them or something?

Blu · 04/03/2008 18:47

is it doing it now, as I type?

VVVQVJournalist · 04/03/2008 18:48

PW

Yes, I have an IT man at home that deals with all the technical stuff. All I have to do is whine say "it's not working".....

OverMyDeadBody · 04/03/2008 18:49

at the mass MN hysteria that PW may have started!

AllFallDown - I have a MAC...but what the blue blazes is my interweb??

How would I know if I had it?

Should I have a little web-type icon?

Oh the fear of being found out!!

princessmel · 04/03/2008 18:52

Do we need to do this? is it only if you save stuff?

AS. if you use Firefox go Firefox, preferences, advanced, network, cache.

I found that by typing cache into Firefox help

AlistairSim · 04/03/2008 19:06

Well done, ButterflyBessie!

MrsSeanSlater · 04/03/2008 19:08

I've emptied my cache and I'm still signed in to everything. It's when you delete your cookies that you have to re-sign in to everything and enter passwords.

MrsSeanSlater · 04/03/2008 19:08

I'm on a mac.

princessmel · 04/03/2008 19:09
