Should I report neighbours

Hopefully I’m in the right place to get advice but my neighbours obviously have a hoarding issue also it’s a 4 bedroom house and there’s only 3 adults living there should I report them the house is housing association

If you think the home or someone in it is actually unsafe, then yes report it. I wouldn’t report it just because there are 3 people or without concerns for safety.

Barleysugar86 · 28/06/2023 13:46

I'd say only if you have concerns about vermin, house load/ stability/ cracking, vulnerability eg. dementia, or extreme health risks like you know they have no working plumbing and are pooing outside.

Not if you just don't like the idea of someone living in mess.

If it's just untidy clutter they have to walk around I feel they should be given some autonomy to choose how they live.

Report for hoarding or report for only having three people in?

Report for hoarding or report for only having three people in?

Both, the hoading is also in the garden and there’s lots of families needing a 4 bed when this is a elderly couple and adult son, obviously at one point the other children lived there but there all grown up and moved away now

I'm a 3 bed with 2 people. My son became an adult and moved out. I pay the bedroom tax. I'm sure the housing association are well aware of their circumstances with you telling them.

Humidititties · 28/06/2023 13:50

It's none of your business how many people live there, and if the hoarding isn't affecting you then that's none of your business either

Dear lord. Mind your own business

the housing crisis isn't the fault of the neighbours it’s successive governments seeking off stock and not building more for fucksake

So your issue ha nothing to do with hoarding on the property. You're not the housing police.

Littlroo · 28/06/2023 14:08

Hoarding is a issue when it’s a eyesore in there garden and the house is also full by the looks of it

OP posts:
Littlroo · 28/06/2023 14:09

I won’t report them if you don’t think I should I just was getting concerned about it and wanted advice

OP posts:
Littlroo · 28/06/2023 14:09

On the other side a single man is living in a 3 bed house as his Mrs and kids left him . But I guess I’ll just keep quiet

It's not your garden, and it really doesn't matter if you think it's an 'eyesore'. Unless there are vermin or pests, or concerns for anyone's safety, leave them to it and MYOB.

No you weren't getting concerned, you were just being a busybody

It's not illegal so there's NOTHING to keep quiet about!?

What are you thinking here??

Well housing aren’t aware the woman and kids moved out so that’s why I was thinking it’s not right for a single person to have a 3 bed when families are in hotels as homeless etc

OP posts:
Scruffthemagicdragon · 28/06/2023 14:14

You said it was an elderly couple and their son

Spudlet · 28/06/2023 14:15

By all means report them. After all, I’m just positive that you’ll be happy for the other neighbourhood busybodies to report you and try and get you thrown out of your home the second your circumstances change.

Littlroo · 28/06/2023 14:15

Scruffthemagicdragon · 28/06/2023 14:14

Yes that’s one side and the other side is a single male

OP posts:
Scruffthemagicdragon · 28/06/2023 14:16

So you want to report both sets of neighbours?! As a PP said, let's hope your circumstances don't change and someone reports you.

mummymeister · 28/06/2023 14:17

Speak to your local environmental health department about the hoarding. it is a real public health issue not just for them but for those living either side and around them. also let the housing association know of your concerns. hoarders attract rodents and other pests, the can constitute a major fire hazard and those that hoard need mental health support.

InTheGardenShed · 28/06/2023 14:18

@Littlroo how do you know that 'housing' aren't aware that people have moved out?

'Housing' won't care and have no input anyway!

hiredandsqueak · 28/06/2023 14:19

The housing association will know how many people live in both of the houses you mentioned so you have no need to report the number of people in the houses. FWIW on our cul de sac of four bedroom houses there are three adults in mine, one next door, two in one house over the road, four adults in another and three adults in the last. I would move to something smaller if the housing association paid my costs to move to another house in the area of my choice but as they don't do that I will stay where I am like all the others have who have lived there since they were built. Chances are your neighbours feel the same.
