Should I report neighbours

Hopefully I’m in the right place to get advice but my neighbours obviously have a hoarding issue also it’s a 4 bedroom house and there’s only 3 adults living there should I report them the house is housing association

Wow! You have absolutely no idea what goes on in people's lives, their health or whether they actually pay to have an extra bedroom or if someone has a disability. You just want to report them and smugly watch people's lives being turned upside down and for what? Does this affect you? Are you waiting on a bigger house?
You are not a nice person at all.

On the other side a single man is living in a 3 bed house as his Mrs and kids left him . But I guess I’ll just keep quiet

He is allowed to stay there though? It’s his tenancy. The housing aren’t going to fling him out because his wife left him.

Frequency · 28/06/2023 14:27

Are you my neighbour? You sound very, very much like her.

On the off chance you actually are my neighbour, as this all sounds eerily familiar, I'm not a hoarder. That pile by my shed that wouldn't know about did you not stand at the end of my garden staring at me whenever I go outside, has only been there a week or so and is waiting to go into the skip when I order it within the next week or two. I'm in the middle of decorating you see, and I need the stuff out my way to bring the new stuff in.

Also, I don't think you're quite well and I genuinely do believe you need some help. MIND has an office local to us.

What is wrong with you? get help.

ThunderStormPlease · 28/06/2023 14:33

Yes report. How dare they pay rent and bills on a four bedroom house when there's another family who need it. 🤨

Seriously? Are you a curtain twitcher.

PollyAmour · 28/06/2023 14:34

Good grief, get a more fulfilling hobby than snooping on your neighbours!

xereen · 28/06/2023 14:36

The hoarding if it's spilled over into the garden then yes. Have you seen inside the house? Sorry if I missed that.

Occupancy levels might be irritating but the housing association will know already won't they?

Tinkerbyebye · 28/06/2023 14:37

You can’t report because there are 3 adults in a 4bedroom house, don’t be ridiculous. It’s also highly likely to HA are aware and can do nothing about it

you can report the hoarding if you think it’s a danger to them, or someone else, or attracts vermin

Bringonthesunforthewashing · 28/06/2023 14:38

This has to be a joke surely?

@Littlroo so you want to kick an elderly couple out of their home of years, that they raised their children in because they have a spare room?!!!

And you want the man on the other side forced to downsize while heartbroken his wife and child left him?!!

You seriously can’t be so mean?

The garden - if vermin are a worry then report that obviously, everything else mind your own business.

Get a hobby, make some friends, leave your neighbours alone.

Out of interest, how many people live in your house and how many bedrooms is it?

Littlroo · 28/06/2023 14:42

No I wasn’t being mean I was actually asking advice on here because I know there’s families in hotels homeless etc and the hoarding is a rat issue , several bin bags and boxes outside and when they have work men etc they seem to move so much stuff outside I seen the house through a window and it looks dangerous full of boxes so I am concerned they would get hurt also , it’s two spare rooms they have not just one.
mine is maximum occupied 5 people in a 3 bed

ButImNotOldEnough · 28/06/2023 14:43

I have a bit of news for you… you’re not kicked out of your home by the council or housing association just because you no longer require that amount of rooms. You are free to live in a 4 bedroom home as a single person providing your name is on the tenancy and they can’t force you to leave. There is nothing to report, you’d be thought of as rather odd and very nosy if you tried.

Right and where are they supposed to go? Into a hostel?

trulyunruly01 · 28/06/2023 14:44

Wind your neck in.
Or ask the neighbours in the 4 bed if they want to swap for your 3 bed, then you can clear out the 'hoarding' yourself.

Frequency · 28/06/2023 14:46

I can believe it @Bringonthesunforthewashing.

My neighbour is exactly like this. I am genuinely wondering whether this is the same person as I can't quite believe there are 2 people like this in the world. If it is her she has fudged some details as I'm not elderly nor do I have a son or a husband but we are technically under-occupied by one bedroom.

My neighbour has already reported my garden for being "an eyesore" but the HA came out and checked it and closed the case. She then reported me for attracting rats. The pest controller the HA sent round confirmed there were no rats living in my garden but set some traps as the gardens adjoining mine have decking. Nothing has been trapped up to now.

It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if she reported me for hoarding next. The pile I referred to in my previous post is in the pathway at the side of my house that she cannot see. I've deliberately put it there so she cannot see it but she spotted it a couple of days ago when she was stood at the end of my front garden staring at me while I had the side gate open.

Anaemiafog · 28/06/2023 14:48

This can't be real but on the off-chance...Your older neighbours will likely have life long tenancy and will be able to pass it on to their son. If he wants he can live the rest of his life alone in that huge house.

Littlroo · 28/06/2023 14:48

That’s the issue housing shortage I guess they would only a two bed house but it’s if housing can provide one then a family can have the 4 bed . I was only asking advice not wanting to get mobbed

OP posts:
RoseBucket · 28/06/2023 14:50

The man whose wife left, if the children visit they’ll have bedrooms there I presume?

Oh dear 😅 not good at all 🤦🏼‍♀️

Liquorish · 28/06/2023 14:56

Who are you, Neighbourhood Housing Watch? Surely if you live with 4 other people you could find something else to do with your time.

Aavalon57 · 28/06/2023 14:58

I'm gobsmacked! Why don't you use that active mind of yours to lobby your MP about a totally broken and not fit for purpose housing policy or support Shelter instead.

No you weren't.... you were looking for ammunition to take to housing

And also, you were under the belief they were doing something wrong

Mumsnet have handed your arse to you on a plate for it too

The last sentence is very very revealing here.

You're living in cramped conditions and you want to report your neighbours who aren't.

That's about the strength of it, isn't it?

Glad I'm not your neighbour.

GodspeedJune · 28/06/2023 15:14

Under occupied properties are a real issue, but tenants aren’t compelled to downsize when their circumstances change. If you report that, there is absolutely nothing the HA can do about it.

On the other hand, hoarding is worth reporting. It’s a fire hazard and also a breach of tenancy (although very unlikely to see someone evicted) so a joint visit from the HA and fire brigade may be put in place.

CherryCokeFanatic · 28/06/2023 15:15

How big is your house and who lives there OP?

Frith2013 · 28/06/2023 15:15

Yes, do get the man thrown out of his house so his children are unable to have overnight visits.

What is wrong with you?
