56, what age should I expect for a new relationship

My husband and I split up recently, although I'm really not looking for a new relationship just yet, I do wonder what sort of age I should expect a new man to be. My husband was 4 years younger but was youthful looking too. I look at the guys my age and they just seem so old and I'm not really liking what I see. I know I'm probably looking at a general massive sweep and panicking about the negative. But, if you where dating in your mid fifties, what ages were your fellas?

Men can want younger but they won't get it.
Massive egos

Well that's not true as some men do 'get it'.

The sort of man who wants a relationship with a woman 20 years younger is not the sort of person I would want to be in a relationship with. He is shallow and uninteresting and not emotionally mature.

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2024 09:23

@Telemakus they really don't. Unless extremely fit and wealthy.
Most older men look like potatoes with eyes

Thankfully of all the people I know, and I know a lot due to my job and hobbies and family etc. Of all different walks of life. Most are with people their own age.

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2024 09:24

Yes some men but not the majority, and it's the majority who seek it. Losers!

I think people who look young for their age always had a baby face, it's not all make up and moisturiser.

Yes I've always had a round, slightly greasy face. Not so good in my 20s but very helpful in my 50s.

And most older women look like a blancmange with a wig but that doesn't stop them.

studioussquirrel · 10/05/2024 09:27

I used to like blancmange when I was a child. Why doesn't anyone eat it anymore?

Sadly went the way of creme caramel and Rice pudding.

My Dad is 75 and has just announced he has a new girlfriend Grin

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2024 09:35

@Telemakus Bloke alert! 😂
Nah more women make far more effort than men to maintain physical appearance and stay interesting. Look at the pool of single women in 40s and 50s and so many lovely ones, can't say the same for the men.
Women know we get older and our taste adapts and we are realistic. Many men live in cuckoo land and think too much of themselves.

Yeah I think you're living in an echo chamber. Women greatly overrate how attractive other women are. There are no more hot older women than there are men.

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2024 09:41

@Telemakus Not talking about being hot, typical man response.

Jesus, ok attractive, fit, appealing. However you wish to label it for every 'potato with eyes' there's a Jabba the Hut with lipstick. And for every Diane Lane there's a Richard Gere.

Rice pudding still a favourite here...(OK, I'm leaving now...)😃

studioussquirrel · 10/05/2024 09:47

Aren't you a bit too focused on looks @Telemakus 🤔

No I'm just pushing back on this idea that nearly every man has gone to seed whilst all women are Helen Mirren's younger sister.

HelenHywater · 10/05/2024 16:25

Well there are double standards at play - for men it's ok to say I have a dad bod and be proud about it. There isn't an equivalent for women.

And yes imo women age better than men - at least by the time they're in their 50s.

And women don't have to care what height they are. It's swings and roundabouts.

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2024 18:30

@Telemakus You've taken it too extreme.
It's in the context of age expectations.
Women generally look after themselves better and have more to offer yet are humble about themselves and seek men their own age generally, which is normal.
Many men generally don't look after themselves yet still have big egos and expect a 25 year old to look their way and think women their OWN age are too old.. WTF!?
It's created a big disparity in the dating world as both don't get what they seek. But only one has ridiculous expectations
As if young women see anything other than a ruddy potato when they have men their own age on offer.

@Telemakus I have no ego, I said women were more humble. I don't expect young men to find me attractive or drool at the sight of them.
Fuck off with your misogynistic views they aren't wanted here.

I met a man who is now 62 (I'm 54) and he's very good looking, full head of (still dark) hair, good body & great fun. Just FWB really though but it's exactly what I need as no interest in a full-time relationship.

That simply cannot be true. Haven't heard? Men over 50 are the detritus of society. Disturbia81 has decreed it.

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2024 19:28

@Telemakus Take your narcissistic gaslighting self elsewhere instead of coming into a forum full of women arguing with them. I bet if you've managed to have any relationships in your life you've been horrific to be with.

Utterly unhinged. I've done no more than parrot back your own words. Please be my guest and continue in this beautifully constructed echo chamber.

I'm fairly sure they sell smelling salts on Deliveroo.
