I've done something insane for a 38-year old woman - found and bought the signature fragrance of my crush

I have a crush on a bloke.

He always smells great, really great. Not like aftershave great. It's not a smell I'd ever been able to pinpoint to being a particular thing he uses like a soap or fragrance or even laundry detergent.

It's just like a generally nice aroma - clean, fresh, kind of warm.

He takes good care of himself so I always assumed it was a nice body spray or lotion or whatever. But it's never felt quite right to actually ask what he uses that makes him smell so good. We're friends but that'd be a very weird conversation.

Anyhow, yesterday I was having a big old browse in the posh body care section at Boots to spend some vouchers I received at Christmas. And I found the smell. His smell. His exact smell. Bottled up all neat and tidy in a little tub of body cream.

So I bought the body cream. And now I'm wearing the body cream. And I can't get any bloody work done because I can't concentrate.

I have form for this kind of behaviour. When I was 14, I found out that a boy I liked used Aussie shampoo. So I convinced my mum to buy me some Aussie shampoo because Sugar magazine had said how great it was for teenage hair.

But I was 14 at the time. And we all do mad stuff when we have a crush at 14. But I'm not 14 now. I'm 38. I'm a professional, level-headed woman. But here I am huffing my own arm like its fucking amyl nitrite.

Large parts of me are cringing at my ridiculous teenage behaviour. It seemed such a good idea at the time when I was swept up in the excitement of the moment. But now I'm sat at my desk smelling like a bloke I want to bang wondering what the hell I was thinking.

Tell me you've also done insane and cringe things when you've had the crush blinkers on.

Someone i had a oneoff hookup with a few years back wore Chanel Bleu. He was delicious. When I go through the duty free I'm all over the testers. Reminds me of being in the hotel bar waiting for him to get there, and him walking in on a cloud of it. Mmmm.

I have this vision of some priest trying to discuss the catechism with you, and you having a moment of frankness and saying 'Actually, I'm just doing it for a man!' and the priest saying 'You mean Jesus?' and you saying 'Nah, my fit ex, Gary Brown who used to go to your church!'

But though he had the face of an angel, his personality wasn't as delightful and he would admit that now. He probably got away with a lot by being good looking- if a geeky looking bloke had said some of the racist etc stuff he came out with, most people would walk straight away.

Plus it’s a woman’s cream. This doesn’t stack up. How can you smell it? It’s all sealed up

I’ve bought that cream before, I liked it, it’s a unisex fragrance really, not overly feminine or masculine. You can also get it in a spray.

It’s not all that expensive though, I bought the small version of it, lasted a fair while, it’s $36 AUD

This thread is full of my 20s. Amyl nitrate and Brian Molko (who I snogged once @YukoandHiro and I can confirm smells nice). Or at least he did in the early noughties.

This reminds me of when I was 14 and me and my friend had a crush on 2 guys who wore brut 🤢, so we went to boots and bought some and sprayed it all over her bedroom. I am 41 now and would like to think I wouldn’t do that now but I couldn’t promise it wouldn’t happen.

When I was much younger I went out with a man, and honestly, the best thing about him was his aftershave - he wore Eau Sauvage by Dior.(I think it's just called Sauvage now, and Johnny Depp advertises it!) I saw it in Boots, and had a quick spray of it, and still think it's gorgeous. Fortunately it doesn't remind me of the ex. OH won't wear it, he doesn't like it, which is disappointing! There is also no way I'd spend £35 on something called Bum bum cream - you sure it's not a hemorrhoid preparation??😀

A lady I used to fancy when I was at school used to have a very distinct smell that I thought was sexy as hell.

Years later I realised it was BO and cigarettes 😱
