I have a crush on a bloke.

He always smells great, really great. Not like aftershave great. It's not a smell I'd ever been able to pinpoint to being a particular thing he uses like a soap or fragrance or even laundry detergent.

It's just like a generally nice aroma - clean, fresh, kind of warm.

He takes good care of himself so I always assumed it was a nice body spray or lotion or whatever. But it's never felt quite right to actually ask what he uses that makes him smell so good. We're friends but that'd be a very weird conversation.

Anyhow, yesterday I was having a big old browse in the posh body care section at Boots to spend some vouchers I received at Christmas. And I found the smell. His smell. His exact smell. Bottled up all neat and tidy in a little tub of body cream.

So I bought the body cream. And now I'm wearing the body cream. And I can't get any bloody work done because I can't concentrate.

I have form for this kind of behaviour. When I was 14, I found out that a boy I liked used Aussie shampoo. So I convinced my mum to buy me some Aussie shampoo because Sugar magazine had said how great it was for teenage hair.

But I was 14 at the time. And we all do mad stuff when we have a crush at 14. But I'm not 14 now. I'm 38. I'm a professional, level-headed woman. But here I am huffing my own arm like its fucking amyl nitrite.

Large parts of me are cringing at my ridiculous teenage behaviour. It seemed such a good idea at the time when I was swept up in the excitement of the moment. But now I'm sat at my desk smelling like a bloke I want to bang wondering what the hell I was thinking.

Tell me you've also done insane and cringe things when you've had the crush blinkers on.

If this is product placement then it's very clever.

I think, like many others, a man who regularly uses bum bum cream might prefer the company of other men than that of the OP.

I also think that if a man wrote about spraying himself with Chanel no.5 because the woman he fancied wore it, we'd all be clamouring to tell him he was a creep.

My hypothesis - He uses Bum Bum cream because it reminds him of his recent ex who also wore it. I’d guess the number of (straight) men who would buy this for themselves is minute!

I got the cream in my Glossybox a couple of years ago, maybe so did he. :)

i once got some perfume for my self it smelled great spicy peppery it stung it was light fresh lasted all day etc . I loved it some people asked me where id got it from it was only when i got the 4 bottle that i read it was for men .
Still wore it .

The best thing about a man you fancy is their scent but it’s smelling it on them that’s the nice thing.
Having it just so you can smell him and pretend he’s there is a bit odd and I don’t think it will have the same affect.

I love Dior Sauvage Elixir. Smelt it on a bloke on a night/day out so I stopped him and asked what it was.
I've since bought it for my dh as the smell drives me crazy. It smells great on him (and even better on me, lol) but he likes it too, so is happy to wear it.

I do remember buying Kouros in the 80s because a guy I fancied wore it .... I was 17 and he was in his 30s .... grim, what was I thinking!

I loved the smell of Bum Bum cream since I got a sample in an advent calendar. Agree it's a bit, err, metrosexual, but glad it's making you happy

My 90s crush wore Eternity for Men... I always had a good sniff when I saw a tester, but stopped short of buying it (don't think I could have afforded it). It still makes me think of him!

OH is now contemplating it as a ‘going out’ fragrance but he was looking for more something everyday and it wasn’t his office vibe lol.

Just to let you know you can buy the body spray of this. £19 from boots and it is the one I wear. Smells lovely.

Omg I used to love that and I’d always spray it in the airport to remind me of a guy I used to go out with! I used to almost swoon when I smelt it!

I would love to find which Hugo Boss aftershave someone I used to know wore. I have purposefully never gone into boots to sniff them though as I know it would make me sad. And aroused

@Flyinggeesei234 nothing remarkable sorry! I just ordered some because I read it smells amazing (probably on here!) and I saw it on offer and decided to treat myself. I was underwhelmed by the smell but now it always reminds me of those sunny days during the first lockdown.
