Have you ever seen anyone from OLD in real life but not on a date?

Well, I just did. Recognised him
in the street and he walked past me. He lives 7 miles away and we just happened to be in the same place at the same time. I saw him and realised I recognised him then knew where from’ He’s actually liked me on OLD (a couple of months back) and I liked him back but he didn’t message (and, I’m sure I said hello) and I unmatched him within a day.

I don’t think he saw me as there were other people about and he was about to cross the road but I actually thought he was a bit 🤩. Quite surprised me tbh as it just shows that what someone looks like in a photo isn’t what they necessarily look like in reality.

Maybe I should look for him again. He actually lives in a village I go through on my way to work.

I recognised someone from OLD in our town when I was looking for a man, and he looked hot with the best smile, he smiled at someone who let him cross the road. He was terrible in conversation though!
Also another guy who I was chatting to tried to get me to go to his and get drunk in lockdown for our first date, I've seen him do his post round!

Chinuplippyon · 11/03/2023 15:19

I keep seeing some bloke around who I saw repeatedly on OLD but didn't match with (not my type). Don't think he recognises me. Not my type in person either but looks like a pleasant guy!

I'm friendly with someone who approached me at work (huge, spread out organisation) who'd recognised me. We had matched and chatted briefly but it tailed off. Tbh I let it as I could tell he wouldn't be for me. He's given me a lot of really valuable career advice and support, bless him, but definitely not a romantic match!

I was at a local museum, alone, after I broke up with my exh and it was a really lovely day and an amazing exhibition. I was really enjoying it. In the last room, I saw a male and female curator still working on one exhibit. The man was dressed a bit like Indiana Jones, and rather good-looking with striking blue eyes. I was daydreaming and wondered what it would be like to be with this man.

Two years later I joined a dating website and swiped a handsome local man with striking blue eyes. We started chatting and it turned out that he was the curator of this exhibition. I felt like I'd been stalking him or something - didn't dare say "Oh yes, I saw you years ago and remember you"!

Alas, he was either not interested or was a timewaster who chats with people for ages but can never find time for a date. I didn't wait to find out which :)

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/03/2023 16:26

I have. I went on Match for about 2 days. I was messaged by somebody who couldn't have been further from my type and decided OLD wasn't for me. Unfortunately bumped into him at a party a week later. Neither of us mentioned it but it was so very uncomfortable 😆.

inininsomnia · 11/03/2023 16:30

I matched with a guy and we chatted occasionally. I was not pleased when he told me he'd seen me close to my house.

I unmatched from another guy after telling him I wasn't comfortable that we might encounter each other professionally. And yup, he's turned up in a Teams meeting but didn't know who I was.

YetAnotherUser · 11/03/2023 16:34

I've seen loads in passing, one works in a local supermarket, another has a very distinctive hair style and is easy to spot.

Must be loads of others that are just run of the mill and are a part of the background.

I saw one guy I was chatting with on OLD in the supermarket... with his wife and kids.

minford · 11/03/2023 17:08

Yep.. at parents' evening - my sons form tutor!! Blush

A co-worker had our boss come up in her Tinder. We debated offering constructive criticism on his profile (it was too negative), but didn't. We pretended we never saw it. He did eventually find someone to date long-term despite his profile stating "at least my children like me".

Not in real life but on the news for the attempted murder of his ex's mum😧

Newyearnewjobnewlife · 11/03/2023 20:22

A guy I work with, chatting to him that day and he popped up that evening, his photos don’t look much like the real him!

EastAngle · 11/03/2023 20:27

I live in a small town and when looking through profiles I often see people that I recognise, a bloke from my office, 2 school run dads. No one that I’m ever interested in though unfortunately.

Aganta · 11/03/2023 20:28

No, I haven't.

These people don't exist outside of my phone.

Awkwardsauce · 11/03/2023 20:37

Years ago when I was OLD I got talking to a bloke who turned out to be quite persistent, offering me a lift up north to a friend's house and then falling back on the I'm such a nice guy routine when I said no and I ended up having to cut him off as he was annoying. Months later I was coming back from a holiday and there he was working at passport control (he'd told me he did that) fortunately I was in a different line and he didn't see me.

Now we need a whole new thread about this!

Yes the man who works in a pet shop I sometimes go to. He messaged me - he's a lot older tho and sells dog food so I didn't message him back. (Shallow much!) 😬

riotlady · 11/03/2023 21:21

Yep, guy I matched with on tinder turned out to be my new university lecturer! I was 22 and he was 30 so not totally egregious age-wise but still very awkward. I sat at the back every lecture and hoped he didn’t recognise me!

Another one turned up as a substitute teacher at a school I was working at. He was lovely and we got on well so I was secretly always a bit peeved that he’d stopped messaging me 😂

12345onceicaughtafishalive678910 · 12/03/2023 06:29

Yes! He was one of a panel of four people who interviewed me!

HuntingoftheSnark · 12/03/2023 11:02

Yes! Several. The first time was in Sainsbury’s years ago and he hissed "Plenty of Fish" at me. My daughter was quite young and looked puzzled and said "what did that man say?" - I replied that he was asking where the fish were. She said "does he think you work here?!"

And once on a bus, the bus driver asked why I had ignored his messages. It was the longest journey ever. I was coming back from the hospital, to add insult to injury. He even remembered my user name and asked where it was from. I practically shouted "a Wagnerian opera" across the bus.
