Valentine's Day...do you care?

SuperGrrrl · 06/02/2008 12:56

and if you do, what are you doing?

OP posts:
skidoodle · 06/02/2008 12:58

no, I don't care at all. If I'm counting the days right I'll be at an antenatal class that evening with DH. I guess that's sort of romantic

soopermum1 · 06/02/2008 12:58

nah, don't care

Carmenere · 06/02/2008 12:58

theoretically no but if he forgot or ignored it I would be tres bothered..
Probably not doing much but there will be roses and chocolates and I always make him heart shaped bisuits with dd and we might do strawberry and choc stuffed french toast for breakfast.

tasjaSAmuminUK · 06/02/2008 13:01

said in another thread I don't bother. but think I might, because going back to SA in 17 days and will not see DH for 5 months! so it's an excuse to treat him - in more ways than one

got him a card and box of choc's. will make breakfast in bed and nice dinner.

SuperGrrrl · 06/02/2008 13:01

we usually exchange cards and that's it. i'm making it this year though, and i've bought him a DVD too. thought i'd make a special effort.

skidoodle · 06/02/2008 13:02

wow, carmenere, you guys put in a lot of effort for a "don't care" household. that french toast sounds good enough for me to change a lifetime's habit of not bothering. DH would be SO shocked if I made a special V-Day breakfast. Well actually any breakfast... ... except bran flakes.

noddyholder · 06/02/2008 13:02

no

Beauregard · 06/02/2008 13:03

Nah don't bother ,dont buy into the commercialism.

tasjaSAmuminUK · 06/02/2008 13:04

Carmenere - how do you make the french toast? sounds lovely

I don't like the whole commercial aspect of it, buying heart shaped tat and sitting in restaurants with hundreds of other couples all being overcharged for food just because you're told you have to be romantic on a particular night.

Me and DP decided ages ago that we shouldn't have to be told when to be romantic and should just buy each other gifts or do romantic things whenever we feel like it. However, in five years together we have never actually done that! so I decided to make an effort last valentine's day and he was totally underwhelmed so this year I shall go back to not bothering!

Do I sound bitter??!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/02/2008 13:07

Couldn't give a toss.

However, good excuse to make strawberry heart-shaped cake with the DDs.

Carmenere · 06/02/2008 13:08

TaDa

gemmiegoatlegs · 06/02/2008 13:08

no. normally we do cards and dh gets me flowers at last minute. this year we are going to Disneyland Paris the next day so the flowers would only die anyway!
Sometimes we go out for a meal, i love eating out at any time and it is a worthy occasion to get the ILs in for babysitting!

gemmiegoatlegs · 06/02/2008 13:12

wow carmenere, i am so quick to scoot to the talk threads i didn't even realise mumsnet HAD a recipe section! How excited am I?!!!

And the french toast sounds yum!

skidoodle · 06/02/2008 13:12

aww mildmanneredjanitor, that's so lovely

any excuse to bring out strings of lights is a good excuse as far as I'm concerned.

schneebly · 06/02/2008 13:14

well - as it is also our wedding anniversary we usually do something. Really cheesy to get married on valentines day I know but we did get together with the help of valentines cards.

People keep saying to me that I only married him on that day so he wold never forget our anniversary!

Buda · 06/02/2008 13:14

Don't normally bother but I would like DH to bother!

We will have been together for 20 years (OH MY GOD!) on the 12th though so may arrange to go out that night.

It is my first year with my new man, and he is taking me to Rome for the weekend on the 15th. My lovely friend has offered to have them overnight the night before, so we can spend Valentines evening together.
He has bought some nice wine for us to drink.

nope, I am a real romantic. Valentine's day is not romantic.

hairtwiddler · 06/02/2008 13:29

not a jot! Crappy cards and daft gifts creating lots of waste and making lots of money for big companies is not my idea of romance!
