Pointless conversation

I was on a video call to my partner. He asked what I thought about climate change. I said I believe in pollution but not sure about climate as it is cold right now yet they say the atmosohere is too hot. I don't get why Greta Thunberg, elites and politicians tell people to not travel yet they fly round the world. He said he is on the fence and believes there is a climate crisis. I just don't see what the point in talking about things like this is when we have a difference of an opinion. He kind of put a dampener on my mood after this.

Maybe he wanted a more interesting conversation with you ?!

CowPie · 08/12/2022 23:33

What did you want to talk about?

Justellingthetruth · 09/12/2022 01:39

@Sunnyshining

if you don’t believe we are in a climate crisis you are crazy.

saying things like to cold out linked airy that is embarrassing

i mean really if you are over 18 please educate yourself by reading some articles

dolor · 09/12/2022 01:58

Hahahahaha oh my god

"Not sure about climate as it's cold right now yet they say the atmosphere is too hot.."

Are you allowed outside on your own?

Justellingthetruth · 09/12/2022 02:04

@dolor

exactly

Sunnyshining · 09/12/2022 09:06

I didn't think there would be activists on here 😂

OP posts:
Readaboutyourself · 09/12/2022 09:07

Is this a joke?

Justellingthetruth · 09/12/2022 09:14

@Sunnyshining

well it you write something so lacking in understanding honestly what do you expect.

every adult needs to take action on climate change

try becoming one of them

80s · 09/12/2022 09:24

"Believe in pollution" :D Nice touch, OP!

Sunnyshining · 09/12/2022 09:36

The media is so powerful.

OP posts:
monsteramunch · 09/12/2022 09:40

What is your explanation for the world's climate changing OP? Do you honestly not acknowledge that it is a fact it's happening?

Are you also a flat earther and anti vaxxer?

America12 · 09/12/2022 09:45

Perhaps he was trying to have an interesting conversation with you ?

Notanotherchange · 09/12/2022 10:06

my gosh... so people like you do exist.

Its not the media, its countless scientific experts, governments, the UN, plus open your eyes we are having more frequent climate disasters globally. Please educate yourself.

As for him sounds like he wanted an interesting conversation, discussions and debates can always be good whether you agree or not.

If I tries to have a conversation like that and I got your response I think I would ghost!

Wishimaywishimight · 09/12/2022 10:12

You're right OP, it's very cold here today so I think that proves there is no 'global warming'. Greta needs to find herself another 'hobby' 🙄

redtshirt50 · 09/12/2022 10:19

Ignoring the climate stuff

You don't see the point in talking about things where you have a difference of opinion?

So then every conversation should go like this

'I think A, yes I agree'? And if it doesn't it's pointless?

I would be bored senseless if I was with someone who just wanted me to agree with everything they said.

If things go further with your DP you will have to navigate many tough conversations where you disagree. It's very important you're able to have a healthy discussion about things you don't agree on and come out the other side without things breaking down into an argument.

ICanHideButICantRun · 09/12/2022 10:20

Is this a reverse? Were you trying to have a conversation about this with a complete idiot?

Idontwantafuckingusername · 09/12/2022 10:22

Amazing. This is the content I come to Mumsnet for.

OP, please tell us about some of your other world views. Would love to know what else is swirling around that big, empty head of yours.

I completely agree with you about tsunamis etc. I just don't like when people tell us not to travel yet the preachers travel all the time. A colleague of mine goes abroad 6 times a year long haul and does not care because he wants to escape.

GerbilsForever24 · 09/12/2022 11:00

Not really sure why your thread is for? Do you feel he shouldn't ask you these things? Because if it's something he's interested in, then he has every right to want a discussion with you.

Also, Greta very famously does not travel by plane. Amazing you've judged her so harshly while not even knowing that basic fact.

Also, lots of people travel by plane while fully aware that it's not ideal. Doesn't make climate change not real or overall concern not justified. Certainly, for example, I recycle and do all I can but I'm also conscious that if the supermarkets made more effort to find plastic replacements, that would be far more impactful than all of us diligently recycling.

GimmeBiscuits · 09/12/2022 11:05

There is a difference between travelling in a commercial aircraft (where the fuel load carries a reasonable amount of passengers), and flying by private jet.
There is a difference between the occasional actions of one individual and the repeated actions of corporates.
Climate change is not solely the result of air travel.
People have been expressing concerns about the climate for decades.
You can be concerned and informed about something without being an activist.
Just because you don't agree with so eones viewpoint, it doesn't make you right and other people wrong, or vice versa.
It is always good to be aware that what we were told at school was a very simple version of events.
It is always good to challenge your own views and opinions and consider why opposition to those views disturbs or upsets you.

daisyjgrey · 09/12/2022 11:07

I don't know whether to laugh or shut my head in a door.

monsteramunch · 09/12/2022 11:08

Some facts for you re Greta OP.

He doesn't care because it doesn't directly affect him.

That is one of the reasons why the climate issues will likely never be resolved.

TedMullins · 09/12/2022 11:11

If I was dating someone who

a) didn’t want to discuss anything related to current affairs, or anything we might disagree on
b) had your stance on climate change
c) sounded quite as smooth-brained as you do here

they’d be on a one way boat (not plane) to dumpsville

tanstaafl · 09/12/2022 11:19

lets say climate change IS happening for the worse, then it’s either happening due to industrial processes (and individual decisions on energy consumption and waste ) or the earth is going through a cycle of warming/change to which human activity contributes little.

problem is we won’t know for many years, decades if it’s the latter.
its therefore prudent to look at our own habits and practises and begin to change.

celebs and royals jetting about and preaching to us? Pisses me off too.
but it does get climate change in the headlines.

id prefer a campaign of tv ads, remember like Charlie and his cat?
or the green cross code man , there’s more, but essentially ads to drip feed the message about good habits regarding consumption and waste.
