Pointless conversation

I was on a video call to my partner. He asked what I thought about climate change. I said I believe in pollution but not sure about climate as it is cold right now yet they say the atmosohere is too hot. I don't get why Greta Thunberg, elites and politicians tell people to not travel yet they fly round the world. He said he is on the fence and believes there is a climate crisis. I just don't see what the point in talking about things like this is when we have a difference of an opinion. He kind of put a dampener on my mood after this.

@tanstaafl Thank you, yes the royals are always flying everywhere.

I have been recycling since 2004 and have always been conscious.

I just don't want late night conversations about in depth topics.

I would feel the same as you probably @Sunnyshining . But I suppose conversations show us whether someone is compatible with us or not- which isn't really a bad thing.

JustAnotherHappyFatty · 09/12/2022 13:16

But you're happy posting a pointless post about your pointless conversation on mumsnet late at night to discuss the pointlessness of the conversation?

daisyjgrey · 09/12/2022 13:25

I just don't want late night conversations about in depth topics.

What do you want to talk about?

Palmfrond · 09/12/2022 13:33

@Sunnyshining “I completely agree with you about tsunamis etc.”

CURSED TSUNAMIS!

Wonderful thread! I’m feeling quite giddy from the brain cells I’ve lost reading it.

Justellingthetruth · 09/12/2022 13:36

@Sunnyshining

younjust used an example of someone who is behaving bad as a reason for you to behave bad.

I think it's clear do some reading so you can have an informed opinion.

as some one suggested try the UN report.

there are simple summaries on their web page

But you're happy posting a pointless post about your pointless conversation on mumsnet late at night to discuss the pointlessness of the conversation?

And you're happy adding a pointless post about someone else's "pointless post about your pointless conversation on mumsnet late at night to discuss the pointlessness of the conversation?"

Ooops.

I just added one more pointless post about the pointlessness of ...

Watchkeys · 09/12/2022 14:06

I just don't see what the point in talking about things like this is when we have a difference of an opinion

Do you only want conversations where he agrees with everything you say? You want a relationship with a yes-man?

He kind of put a dampener on my mood after this

How did he?

IsThePopeCatholic · 09/12/2022 14:19

It’s not about your opinion. look at the FACTS. Your DP sounds a lot more interesting than a lot of blokes, who just want to talk about football or cars. Truly, op, you sound a bit vacuous.

JustAnotherHappyFatty · 09/12/2022 15:20

@DaSilvaP did you miss understand my post? The OP is complaining that she doesn't want to engage in 'pointless ' conversation late at night and then comes onto mumsnet to engage in further conversation about how pointless it is.....surely you can see the irony?

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 09/12/2022 16:16

OP you have managed to Gobsmack me.

Imisscoffee2021 · 09/12/2022 16:32

If you base your views on sticking your head out the window and feeling your own little bit of climate then you aren't going to be very well informed. It's more comforting to think there's no climate problem but the facts are the facts and scientists have been showing us for a long time what the last hundred years if human industry and population explosion has done to accelerate climate change. Its a big world out there and other countries have suffered greatly already from it. Sigh. I feel pessimistic about change if this kind of opinion is as common as it seems.

The media is so powerful.

Oh come on OP. You're trolling surely? 🤔😂

DatingDinosaur · 09/12/2022 18:28

What a wonderful, well thought out, well presented subject. Thank you for posting OP.

Liz1tummypain · 09/12/2022 18:32

I can't believe we climate change deniers over here. Do people think scientists just make stuff up?

ChrisTrepidation · 09/12/2022 19:02

What do you want to talk about? Heat magazine? Coronation Street? The price of butter? (but then you might have to talk about rising food prices...dangerous territory)

He just wants to find out your view on important issues. Maybe he's trying to find out how compatible you are? Personally I'd run a mile from any love interest who was a climate change denier.

The media is so powerful.

As is extreme weather.

cinnamonpearl · 10/12/2022 01:30

Good point, OP, it's cold at the moment, climate change is all a myth!!!

Thank (insert chosen deity) you are here to help!

Seriously, how do people this vacuous still walk among us??

Yes, I can see very clearly the irony.

I was only pointing out to the "next level" of irony - that discussing about it in this forum is no less or no more "pointless", as whichever way this thread goes the OP's views and behaviour probably won't change - nor other posters' views, for that matter.

Now, what would be less pointless is a discussion where those hearing what they don't like to hear wouldn't jump immediately on unassailable arguments of the type "(whatever) denier" / "be an adult" / quoting as "facts" what in effect is only secondary / tertiary information that is a distant relative to the primary information, calling people "smooth-brained", "ignorant cultist worshiping the new/old religion of (fill as appropriate)" etc.

But nowadays even for universities that kind of approach seems to be too challenging.

@Sunnyshining

well it you write something so lacking in understanding honestly what do you expect.

every adult needs to take action on climate change

try becoming one of them

The elites who fly around on private jets obviously don't really believe in it though do they?
