Arguments with DH about getting heating

heidihiii · 26/11/2022 18:49

The last few days have been a running argument with my DH regarding the bloody heating. He is being a skin flint ..

I even offered to pay the entire energy bill from my money I get from part time work.

It's completely unreasonable to have a cold house with young children

Put the heating on, like every other thread on DH and heating.

I don't know how

Well....I'm not sure we have enough information to pick a side. Energy bills are high, most people are keeping it lower than normal. Do you mean low, or off? How cold exactly are we talking? I guess if you are happy to pay for it, he can't really complain - but at the same time, it depends on your financial set up and what else you might have to go without if you spend (a little bit? a big portion?) of 'your' money on heating. 🤷

MetellaInHortoEst · 26/11/2022 18:57

What do you mean you don’t know how?

Threadkillacilla · 26/11/2022 18:58

Don't know how?

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/11/2022 18:59

You really don't know how to put the heating on?

Dragonskin · 26/11/2022 19:00

How can you not know how to put the heating on in your own home? You need to sort that as a start, then you don't need to argue

Ponderingwindow · 26/11/2022 19:03

is it just a control unit? You can look up the manual for just about anything remotely modern online these days.

if it’s a 100 year old system that requires manual steps, there is a good chance that you can figure that out as well. There may even be someone reading this thread who can walk you through it.

GalesThisMorning · 26/11/2022 19:10

These threads can't be real. There is no way multiple women do not know how to switch the heating on

PearlclutchersInc · 26/11/2022 19:14

heidihiii · 26/11/2022 18:56

I don't know how

Go online and find the instructions if you dont have the paper version anywhere.

Good luck with the ongoing squabble 😶

category12 · 26/11/2022 19:17

Have a look at your heating system's control panel, then google manuals or youtube videos for how to work it.

I mean, what would you do if he died, just freeze to death?

Wannabegreenfingers · 26/11/2022 19:53

You don't know how??

Creameggs223 · 26/11/2022 20:00

Walk to control panel usually next to boiler press button with a pic of radiator on or extra hour button. Failing that look on YouTube for a video off how todo it, and if your the same person from yesterday saying he buys whisky every night pour the whisky down the drain and tell the selfish lump to leave.

He won't let me..

Mine doesn't drink whiskey but he's at the pub now

Fairislefandango · 26/11/2022 20:03

You don't knoe how?! He won't let you?! You are an adult. Work out how to turn it on, and stop letting him tell you what to do.

Creameggs223 · 26/11/2022 20:04

Some one else then sorry. How can he not let you press a button when he's not even at home come on your an adult stand up for yourself and your children don't be bullied by him.

ItWentDownMyHeartHole · 26/11/2022 20:05

I’m sorry he’s being a git. Also sorry you and the kids are cold. It’s miserable. Will he explode if you do manage to put it on?

NoSquirrels · 26/11/2022 20:06

If he’s at the pub, go and put your heating on.

Are you scared of him?

Whiskyvodka · 26/11/2022 20:06

If you really don’t know how Google it.
Theres no appliance in our home that I can’t operate as well as dh.
i hope you know where your stopcock is.

Well if he does she must call the police.

category12 · 26/11/2022 20:10

If you're too scared of him to put on the heating, then you really need to exit the relationship.

Speak to Women's Aid.

heidihiii · 26/11/2022 20:11

I'm not scared.. he has never hurt me. He's just controlling with the heating

OP posts:
NoSquirrels · 26/11/2022 20:12

If you’re not scared of him, please turn your heating on.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 26/11/2022 20:12

Put the heating on. Work it out or google it. There is no way it is okay to have no heating at all in a house with children in it.

He isn't the boss. If he is then make steps to leave or live in the freezing cold.
