New BF and I need to cook

SuziQ10 · 12/07/2022 19:35

Have stupidly offered to cook dinner for him on Saturday. He cooked for me two weeks ago (the third date).

I really like this guy. Have a great feeling and it's all been fun and romantic so far. Never felt happier.

My cooking skills are nill. I'm shit at cooking.

What is reasonably fool proof? Can be prepared In front of him, maybe something that's a bit sexy to prepare, if there's such a thing...

I don't want to let myself down but I really am untalented.

I would go simple and easy to prep ahead of time.

Better to do something simple well than something more "impressive" badly.

Also I would say a one pot dish, and have a practice run if you can before hand.

Maybe a lasagne or a pasta dish? Chicken breast, med roast veg (comes in an oven proof tray from supermarket) and some sort of potato?

What do you cook for yourself normally?

Cakecakecheese · 12/07/2022 19:49

Fajitas?

Myyearmytime · 12/07/2022 19:51

Steak and jacket potatoes and salad.

Is very easy .
And bought pudding .

seaUrchinOne · 12/07/2022 19:54

Salmon fillet is very easy to cook, with new potatoes and a salad with a lemon dressing.

doitwithlove · 12/07/2022 19:56

Cook - the food shop could be a good call if you are not great at cooking

MintJulia · 12/07/2022 20:00

Chicken Basque.

It's a dead easy one-pot, it can be made in advance. It relies on chorizo to give it a kick so if he likes spice, just use a spicier chorizo.

It had olives and orange slices so looks quite glam. Serve green veg on the side if you want to look healthy - green beans or even frozen peas.

You can drink wine or cider or beer with it. And it's filling enough for most male appetites.

DisgruntledPelican · 12/07/2022 20:03

Something you like and have made before - what do you usually eat?

Geranium1984 · 12/07/2022 20:04

I'd do something you can prep earlier. Men love meat! Lasagne is always a winner, cook the day before or morning of then pop it back in the oven to warm up whilst he is there. Nice salad and you're done!
Good luck xx

Rina66 · 12/07/2022 20:08

Go all out Nando's!
Pitta and dip to start
Chicken wings and thighs baked in the oven with bbq sauce
Home made coleslaw
Jacket spuds with real butter
Savoury rice

Weekenders · 12/07/2022 20:08

Its likely to be a boiling hot day so you'll get away with a salad, or a BBQ if you've a garden.

I'm similarly culinarily challenged and would do chicken kebabs using a recipe off google. Good luck, and bear in mind if all else is good he won't be bothered about the food.

Moonflower12 · 12/07/2022 20:08

If you use 'Cook' -make sure you Google the recipe in case he asks about it!

Brandnewwoman · 12/07/2022 20:17

Get a rotisserie chicken, boil some potatoes and some veg, roast chicken dinner. ( You can take the chicken off the bone and heat it with some chicken gravy.

If you're not a good cook why not get him to cook with you. I couldn't cook but my bf (now husband) taught me, one of the reasons I realised he had lots of patience.

bert3400 · 12/07/2022 20:27

Maybe do a quick Hello Fresh order and hide the packaging

TokenGinger · 12/07/2022 20:30

My go to for a simple meal is fajitas. I dice the chicken, put it into a pan with half a bag of frozen peppers, fry it off, add the seasoning and it's done.

I put it in a bowl in the middle of the table. A small bowl of salsa, cheese and guacamole. Wraps in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Sometimes I'll put a small portion of fries in the air fryer, too.

It takes 15 mins to do and tastes so good.

TokenGinger · 12/07/2022 20:33

This is usually our Friday night easy tea. The salsa and guacamole was already in DP's hands.

We cook a lot. This is my go-to easiest, most impressive one pan dish. It is so much tastier than it has a right to be given how easy it is to prepare! Looks snazzy too with the orange wedges and garlic. I never bother with the sage leaves either. Prep in advance, then put the paprika oil on the chicken near the end. If you can cut up a pepper then you can cook this. Buy the best welfare chicken you can, it'll taste better.

Shoxfordian · 12/07/2022 20:58

Buy some posh ready to go meals and decant them into your own dishes before he arrives

ShandaLear · 12/07/2022 21:05

Steak, salad, crusty bread. Lurpak if you feel like pushing the boat out. Strawberries and cream or ice cream for pudding. Grate some dark chocolate over it if you’re feeling exotic.

B1rd · 12/07/2022 21:18

Boil pasta. Cut up 6-8 slices of ham into squares. When pasta is ready, add squares of ham to water, let it cook for 1 minute. Drain the pasta and ham into a colander. Add green pesto to the empty pan, pretty much the whole jar and then add pasta and ham...stir. Add Parmesan cheese...sprinkle across the pasta.

mbosnz · 12/07/2022 21:27

For our first wedding anniversary, I 'cooked'. I did smoked salmon, baby new potatoes, and salad. Went down a treat!

DoncasterHombre · 12/07/2022 21:59

You're not going to get away with it, OP! 😆

The above suggestions are rubbish and you don't know your way around a kitchen which will be worked out fairly quickly.

Get the outfit on that makes you feel sexiest and tell him you didn't know if he was a leg or breast man or if he was particularly fond of a juicy rump so you thought you'd let him see the menu and decide himself. Thrust a bowl of strawberries at him as a snack to share and approach him with a can of squirty cream. Various local takeaway menus tucked in the waistband of your knickers for him to "discover" are optional.

He won't be thinking about what he's getting for his tea for long, I guarantee it.

Then fess up about your lack of culinary skills. Tell him you'd like to learn (hopefully you do) and establish a dish you both like that he could teach you to make on the next date, be it at his or yours and order a takeaway.

It's either that or you're making pizza's. All that dough slapping as you gaze lustfully at each other and realise you've subconsciously made rude shapes out of your toppings and need to find something to do while they cook in a hot oven might be the only other way.

Good luck!

M&S meal deal, a sakad and selection of drinks. He's coming to see you not your cooking skills.

Do not put slices of ham into water. It's completely unnecessary and you will lose flavour. If you must use slices of ham then just put it in at the end.
