Would you be annoyed if a single woman 19 years your DH's junior bought him a novelty jockstrap to wear over his shorts at an exercise class?

DenholmElliot1 · 02/07/2022 14:02

How old are they both and how well do they know each other?

Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:03

55 and 36. It's a weekly exercise class which he has been going to for years. Likewise for her.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/07/2022 14:04

Yes I would. Completely inappropriate.

DenholmElliot1 · 02/07/2022 14:05

Think she's after your hubby 😕

Iamnotamermaid · 02/07/2022 14:08

Inappropriate & crossing a line...You are right to be annoyed at that one.

HollowTalk · 02/07/2022 14:10

I would think she was insane to be honest!

WeeOrcadian · 02/07/2022 14:13

It'd give me the ick and I'd be questioning her motives

Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:15

What's made it worse is that the jockstrap was left sitting in the mess of paperwork on his desk at work but I hadn't noticed. Our adult DD was with me and we were waiting in his office and she noticed it and picked it up. Gave me the look 'what the hell?!'. I had to shrug my shoulders at her. He came back in, I asked him jokingly what on earth was that and that's when he said she'd bought it for him.

girlmom21 · 02/07/2022 14:17

Is it part of a joke conversation they had?

Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:17

What sort of joke conversation involves my husband's crotch?

OP posts:
ZenNudist · 02/07/2022 14:19

Is he hiding something in plain sight?

Windbeneathmybingowings · 02/07/2022 14:19

I would laugh. But that’s the sort of jokes me and my friends have. Someone bought me a coconut bra as a joke. Do you know her at all? That changes it.

Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:19

I should add I'm just as mad at him as I am at her on this one.

OP posts:
Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:19

I don't know her at all.

Well you could just ask him...

Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:23

I asked him of course and it was skirted over saying it was a bit of fun. The previous year she had bought him novelty socks.

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 02/07/2022 14:23

So ask him what the joke is.
Novelty socks are harmless.

Tangerine58 · 02/07/2022 14:25

There isn't any joke. Apparently it was a bit of fun dressing up.
I had no problem with the socks the year before.

Per usual, you have a husband problem. He never should have accepted that as a gift, and he should have told her off for being so grossly inappropriate. I think your husband likes the attention.

Agree 100%.
It's maddening because I had to minimise it in front of DD but I know her, I could see it on her face she was worried and thought it inappropriate, and by me minimising she probably worries I'm being weak. I had to make a split second decision about how to deal with it in front of her though.

OP posts:
Freeme31 · 02/07/2022 14:35

Totally inappropriate. Can you join the class too ? I would be concerned tbh.

ThirtyThreeTrees · 02/07/2022 14:45

Your husband obviously doesn't have any boundaries.

He also didn't tell you when he received it.

I would be really annoyed with him.

Pushing30 · 02/07/2022 14:47

If it is a platonic friendship I wouldn't see it as a problem

Felicity42 · 02/07/2022 14:51

If she gave it to him alone, that's very different to getting it as a jokey present in front of everyone at a Christmas work do.

Everyone has their own boundaries, but in my world, giving a married man such an inappropriate gift is just wrong. I don't care how long you've been friends for.
