What's the soonest you've ever fallen in love?

I once told a guy I loved him after 4 hours.
I don't think I did. At the time. We did go on to have a lovely relationship, not sure it was love but I never regretted saying it. And I still think about him sometimes nearly 15yrs on.

My friend is nervous about telling her 'boyfriend' of 5 weeks that she loves him. Even though she feels absolutely head over heels. I didn't suggest anything but secretly thought just tell him, what's the harm.

How quickly have you said those 3 little words?

I think even in my youth I knew that that rush of emotion and attachment you feel in the early days of a relationship isn’t really love, so I was never one to say it very early on. It took about a year with my now DH. I only had one serious relationship before him and it was probably about the same time.

I think 5 weeks is way too soon. I’d be scared off someone who told me they loved me when they barely knew me.

Lacedwithgrace · 25/05/2022 17:50

5 weeks is quite soon, but if she's sure he's either feeling the same way or will, why not tell him? DH and I spoke about our feelings getting more serious after 3 months, said the words at 4 months ish.

BunsyGirl · 25/05/2022 17:51

The first date I had with my DH. Almost 19 years later we are still together.

BunsyGirl · 25/05/2022 17:53

Thanks when I fell in love by the way. Neither of us are big on saying the three little words…we both believe that actions speak louder than words!

Greatoutdoors · 25/05/2022 17:54

I loved my XH from our first date and we said it after about a fortnight. Yes, it was the early ‘rush of love’ but it grew into something deeper that lasted more than a decade. We broke up in the end and I do wonder if I’ll ever find that again. It was very special while it lasted.

Eightieschildren · 25/05/2022 17:56

After about three weeks. We’ve just celebrated our 25th anniversary. He still makes my heart skip a beat.

SirChenjins · 25/05/2022 17:58

We got engaged after 6 weeks (27 years married) so it must have been less than that! Parents in law got engaged after a long weekend and were very happily married for 40-odd years.

Imnotahippo · 25/05/2022 18:08

We’d been talking online for about 4 weeks(we lived 136 miles apart)
we took a chance and he came to stay for a week (idea being,he’d go home if we didn’t gel)
48 hours after meeting we both said it and have been together just shy of 7 years-living together for 6 of them
other boyfriends,I’ve either never felt it or never said it

FuckingNoise · 25/05/2022 18:08

I don't believe in love at first sight nor do I believe you can fall in love with someone who a few days / weeks ago was a total stranger. It takes a good couple of years to really know someone. If anyone claims to have "fallen in love" with someone after a few hours and they are still happy together 10, 20 or 60 years later it is pure luck they turned out to be decent or compatible and that their "love" wasn't replaced with some other harsh reality (as is so often the case with people who dive head first into relationships). Not because you knew for sure their entire personality in such a short space of time.

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2022 18:39

The morning after I brought him home. He's been ever since, I tell him I love him every day.

I love DCat

Flakjacketon · 25/05/2022 18:48

My DH reckons he fell in love with me the minute he laid eyes on me and 2 hours later told his friend that he was going to marry me. 4 months later we were living together and have now been together for 36 years.

Stichintime · 25/05/2022 18:50

The first night. He told me the second night. Together 25 years

BadWolf2022 · 25/05/2022 18:54

Only said it once and it took me a year.

Purplehonesty2 · 25/05/2022 18:55

I think it was about five days in. Dh asked me to marry him on day 9

We are so happy!

Batshittery · 25/05/2022 19:04

I felt it on the second date but didn't say it. Still together and in love after 32 years <soppy emoticon> Grin

CthulhuInDisguise · 25/05/2022 19:06

First date with my current boyfriend (3 days after we started talking online). It was much longer with my late husband, so I was initially scared that I couldn't trust my feelings since being widowed and grief stricken. Turns out it really is love! My boyfriend told me he loved me 2 days after our first date, without expecting me to feel the same, but I did. Four months on and we are still besotted.

Now that I relate to! ❤️

Tinkerbell1281 · 25/05/2022 19:29

A week! We’re happily married now!

Useranon1 · 25/05/2022 19:33

I've only said it once and i knew after a few weeks of dating, sex once. But I'd known him for 5 years by that point.

Shame I didn't know he was a lying, cowardice cheater who was still married!

Lex345 · 25/05/2022 19:42

About 4 months, with DH. I had probably felt it sooner but wasn't ready to say it. I love all these "love at first sight" stories though!

MolliciousIntent · 25/05/2022 19:43

Every single significant relationship I have been in has been love at first sight, including my marriage.

autienotnaughty · 25/05/2022 19:46

When I was young it was days. With dh we waited a few months.

PortalooSunset · 25/05/2022 19:56

Genuinely knew I was going to marry dh the moment I first met him. Obvs didn't tell him that then because I didn't want to look like a complete nut job 😂
We had our first date maybe 6 weeks later, and were engaged very soon after. That was over 25 years ago and we're still happy together now 🥰
Tell her to go for it!

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/05/2022 20:32

My husband and i told each other we loved each other on our 2nd date. We have been together almost 6 years!

Kitten2 · 25/05/2022 23:41

Lovely stories. I know I'm impulsive... some of you are too. Why not, ay. Life is short
