Tattoo turn off?

Long time no type?!

Would someone’s tattoos change your attraction to them?

Should what you perceive to be ‘bad’ or ‘tacky’ tattoo’s be a deal breaker?

Went on a first date, got on really well. Went on a second date, got on really well but noticed some tattoo’s which I find a bit tacky and well…shit.

Does this bother people? I know it’s each to their own but on the whole, how much would it bother you if you were dating someone with crap tattoos😂

I wouldn't date anyone with tattoos, it's just personal preference.....

GingerDuo · 23/04/2022 23:06

Nope. My pet we has old faded really shitty ink that he tried to hide from me as he was so embarrassed by them. They're so utterly naff I wish he'd have them redone as I adore tattoos! But he won't.
Didn't put me off and I'm glad

GingerDuo · 23/04/2022 23:07

Ffs pet we = partner

MegaPixie09 · 23/04/2022 23:17

My boyfriend has some pretty tragic tattoos on his legs that he had done at 17 by his mate, in his bedroom. They don’t bother me and in fact I think they are hilarious and I’m quite fond of them. The difference for me is that he also thinks they’re shit. But if he was getting those types of tattoos thinking they were amazing, then yeah. I think it would have put me off.

I’ve seen two people with swastika tattoos. As well as being disgusted, I always wonder where they get them done. No tattoo artist that wants to be respected for their work would presumably not do them, do they just get some random friend to do it?

Years ago, I worked with someone whose brother was a tattoo artist. She said that he had sometimes been asked to cover up various racist tattoos with other tattoos. Hopefully they felt embarrassed about their tattoo and their views had changed, more likely they still thought the same but just didn’t want to advertise it anymore.

They probably got them done in prison.

mrcattybiscuits · 24/04/2022 10:49

I have lots of tattoos, some I love, some I'm meh about as they aren't what I'd choose now but I've had them for 20 years or more. I certainly don't fit the commonly held stereotype of a tattooed person, I have a post graduate degree and a highly respected professional career.

I definitely don't talk about them, in fact I find nothing more cringy than when people start to talk to me and tell me all about their tattoos or ask me about mine. It makes me want to curl up and die it's so cringy.

I used to go for men with tattoos but tend to not in recent years, as I find a lot (not all!) men with tattoos are often quite blokey and hyper masculine and that's really not my thing. That said if I met a lovely guy with tattoos it wouldn't put me off.

Cyderdelic · 24/04/2022 17:37

Ex Dp has a full Japanese bodysuit of incredibly well done tattoos. Ive got just over 60% coverage from the same artist. I dont really notice mine, so would probably not notice shite tattoos on a partner after a while, unless it was really offensive crap, or they somehow thought it was good work when its clearly not.
I find good tattoos a huge turn on!

billysboy · 24/04/2022 17:48

Wouldnt date anyone with tattoos as a deal breaker for me same as smoking only my opinion and choice

I find this post puzzling and contradictory.
You have tattoos but have a respectable career. You don’t like guys with tattoos because they are stereotypically blokey types.

As said in a prev post I don’t have tattoos nor would I ever be likely to date someone with tattoos but if I had a tattoo myself I’d really hope I would not stereotype anyone who does.

How much did that lot cost? It must have been very expensive.

mrcattybiscuits · 25/04/2022 19:58

@Youcansaythatagainandagain I did specify that a lot (but not all) I know some really guys with tattoos.

However, I have two exs who are tattooists and most of my ex's have tattoos but that's not really what I go for anymore as they were the embodiment of toxic masculinity, and two were just down right abusive. So that's kind of put me off the look per se, however I know this isn't true for all men with tattoos as I stated. I just don't really find it that attractive anymore as it holds negative connotations with my past.

TroysMammy · 25/04/2022 20:10

I don't like tattoos but my partner has one on his leg. Thankfully he doesn't wear shorts so I only see it when he gets up from bed, he comes out of the shower dressed or wearing a towel around his waist. He also has a bad outline of a small dolphin which I refer to it as a tuna. Again thankfully he doesn't go bare chested so it's not on show.

bluedelphinium · 26/04/2022 10:15

Meh. I got a couple of inoffensive tats when younger that I regret but not enough to get removed so wouldn't judge.

If they're just a bit naff and dated then I think I would try and overlook them if he's otherwise a sweetheart. If they show questionable views or judgement then I would be put off.

Whatever he's got though, it could be worse. I once met a man who I think was actually a tattoo artist. He had one of a woman's face, on his leg, visible in shorts, performing oral sex on a disembodied penis. I think that kind of thing would put me off on both counts.

timestheyarechanging · 26/04/2022 23:08

Wouldn't ut me off at all unless it was offensive. I like them. my ExH has a great one which he had when we were together. He researched a lot before deciding on the design which is part of his heritage - Native Canadian.
Ex bf was covered with them from his neck to his hands. They were all meaningful and very artistic though.

Current partner has 3 really really really shit ones, that he had done when he was 15 - they are BAD! His name, football club logo and some mod thing. All blurred too as they're 40 years old! Thankfully they don't show in a t shirt.

Didn't put off him though as he's lovely. I just laughed when I saw them as I knew he hated them and they were a teenage mistake.

He's planning to get them removed/covered soon thankfully. I also have a teenage mistake on my shoulder so at least I can't see it. Also planning to have it covered asap but I remember the pain!

My daughter has a beautiful huge one that she got on her 18th birthday. It took two appointments as it's BIG. Cost a fortune. I do wonder how it's going to look when she's 60 though.

Tattoos are graffiti. Would you buy a house or car with such daubings? They can be resprayed or scrubbed clean. The body can not. They are forever.

Lol. You are funny!

LondonGrey · 28/12/2023 14:45

This thread is ridiculous
you read so many of the threads on MN moaning about men and hating them and not being able to find a relationship yet writing off a decent guy because he might have a tattoo 🙄

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/12/2023 14:49

FFS are people that bored they have to post on a zombie thread.

It was serious. That's how I see them.

i wouldn’t necessarily buy one but if Banksy did his thing on my house, I’d very much enjoy the rapid increase in value and sell it immediately.

Starryskies1 · 28/12/2023 21:35

It’s a personal thing. Bad tattoos may put me off. Artful ones I like on a man personally. I dated someone who had quite manly arms with good tattoos they suited him.

You're a very dull and judgemental human being.

I love all of my tattoos. None of them resemble graffiti.

Whyamilikethis41 · 28/12/2023 22:06

There are certain tattoos I don't like, especially ones like tribal tattoos on the bicep or sleeves , or lions. I think they look so naff and dated and unoriginal. Also hate tattoos on hands and fingers and also on the calf , guess I just don't like tattoos in general!
I do like cool looking tattoos that are a bit different but any of the tattoos above would def put me off someone
