Go on then. What was your boyfriend/partner husband's 'reason' for having searched 'adultwork'..?

Sitting in bed with him a couple of days ago. On my fucking birthday of all days. He searched something up on his phone. Penulitimate search shown was adultwork which he quickly deleted when he saw it.

Apparently, a man at work told him it was a job site exclusively aimed at men in their 50s who were looking for a last career change before retirement.

It's a joke this guy plays all the time.

The other blokes an idiot, he was disgusted by it. Natch.

I told him that the joke/job thing is what all men say.

Been seeing him 6 months.

What’s adultwork? Is it porn?

cheeseislife8 · 20/04/2022 13:41

Presumably it's a porn site? If so, kinda rude while you're next to him!

CrumpetStrumpet · 20/04/2022 13:41

That's certainly an imaginative excuse.

I hope he's now your ex boyfriend?

CrumpetStrumpet · 20/04/2022 13:42

@Pyri It's a website where sex workers advertise their services.

Bananalanacake · 20/04/2022 13:45

Assuming you don't live together as it's only been 6 months. Easier to get rid of if you want to.

FuckingMen · 20/04/2022 13:56

Well I didn't do anything at the time. I never do. I always take a day or so to process and mull over but it's obviously bollocks, isn't it.

And yes, it's a site where prostitutes advertise their services.

I've decided I'm done though.

Accidentally stumbled upon the site after searching for sports massage.

I mean, we've all done it...

Then using the site to book prostitutes. Non sequitur.

You should be done.

Palmfrond · 20/04/2022 16:37

I’m a man, happily married, have looked at adultwork out of morbid curiosity/rubbernecking, having heard about it, perhaps ironically, on mumsnet. It’s a site for prostitution.
only OP can say whether she believes his story, which certainly sounds like bullshit, ir whether she believes her partner to be the type of person to pay for sex.

That's the thing. I'd have far more respect for that as a reason than some bullshit reason.

I'd probably be prepared to accept that as a reason- it's the sort of thing I can imagine someone doing.

But it makes him untrustworthy in my eyes. And if I can't trust him..

SirenSays · 20/04/2022 16:41

I imagine if my partner didn't trust me he'd be posting on here about me. I was looking there and a few other sites at the weekend to see if my ex is still on them, just pure curiosity.

Pretty sure most women wouldn't believe their partner to be the type of person to pay for sex.
The site's designed to encourage progressive behaviour and addiction. So if you believe the BS he gives you just be aware that even if the BS is true for now, it may not be true next month or next year when he's progressed to just having a go at IM chat/webcam/RL meets.

Wifflywafflywoo · 23/04/2022 08:22

I used my DP's phone the other day to Google a dating/hookup site to see if it was real... Didn't want it in my own search history or putting weird ads on my phone 😄

It came about after my parents asked their new neighbour what he likes to do at the weekend and he said he had a few dates/meet ups from X site. Obviously we were all ill with curiosity giggling away like pathetic kids wanting to find out more. Unfortunately for DP he'd left his phone downstairs whilst at the bathroom so we took advantage.

I agree that most of the time the simplest answer is the right one but sometimes there's idiots like me doing things like this!

Perfectlystill · 23/04/2022 08:40

Not even worth considering. LTB

thebeespyjamas · 23/04/2022 08:59

Is he really dumb or really not tech savvy? Because anyone with half a brain cell would use incognito tab for stuff like that. I'd be more worried he was too dumb to live than using prostitutes.

I'd say his story is true.

Yep. Heard about it on here and had a look out of curiosity. Same with blue waffle, sootykins and all manner of other from internet rabbit holes I've gone down from reading various threads. Doesn't mean I want to engage with sex workers in the slightest.

I'd be pissed off if my partner accused me of anything on the basis of my search history. I don't recall 'curiosity police' being a thing o signed up to.

nadeelia · 23/04/2022 09:32

just told my partner about this and he's now searching to see if he knows anyone on there and said what's the green V for I don't care if they are vegetarian or vegan

I've just had a look and there would appear to be a lot of vegans on there😂

@Jengnr its a prostitute ordering site but from what we can gather the V is for members.

well it says you need to be a member to click it, not going that far though, but he was on there a while haha

MissStarry · 23/04/2022 17:01

Could the v mean “verified”?

I wouldn’t believe that excuse either OP - who knows why (well, there’s clearly only a few reasons!) he’d look at it; it doesn’t mean he’s done anything but for me I couldn’t see him as serious partner if he’s spouting bullshit excuses or lying to my face.

It may be innocent of course, only you can judge if he was believable when saying that reason or if a bullshit alarm went off with his reaction.

Tbh, I would be really surprised if he'd been looking genuinely for a few reasons. I can well.imagine him looking out of curiosity because its been talked about at work. I would...

Is the reason he gave likely to be true? I can see him falling for it, I just can't imagine anyone else saying that in the first place, if I'm honest.

I'd rather he just said he'd looked out of curiosity. But then I think he'd know me well enough to know that I'd accept that as a reason. It was the feeling that it wasn't honest that bothered me more than him looking.
