Help me, I'm so embarrassed.. I've been single a long time, I'm a single parent. I've noticed a new manager in my local sainsburys, I've seen him several times now and whilst I don't like to read too much into things he does smile at me and make eye contact every time I see him. I saw him in the sainsburys petrol station earlier and he held the door open for me, again I can't read into that as he could do that for everyone. I'm embarrassed now as I fancy him 🤣 and have no idea how to find out if he's single. He has no wedding ring on.. I know a few of the staff there as I shop there every weekend. Shall I just leave it and save myself the humiliation?

I would ask one of the ones you know. Nothing creepy about that. Ignore those Pearl clutches on here.

Escapetothecatshome · 05/03/2022 17:42

The obvious thing to do is to next time you see him in the store,
ask for some really obscure wine ( doesn't have to exist) so to takes ages to find etc etc
Then you can ask can recommend anything ...What does you wife like to drink ? Fingers crossed he says I don't have a wife ( I'm single and ready to mingle) any then say do want to join me a glass sometime ...
Easy.

Nsky · 05/03/2022 17:46

You could ask if he’s had a nice few days with partner, assume and he’ll let you know.
What I’ve done in the past, works well, normally attached

Find out his name from the store details and Facebook stalk him of course!

Way too intrusive to ask someone on duty at work about their time with their partner. They could have just died or something for all anyone knows.
Shaplod · 05/03/2022 21:18

Ha, I think he's one of the duty managers, not an actual store manager. I'll go in the week when I need to do a top up shop. I saw him in there on Thursday and today, I'm not going to start making unnecessary trips to the shops 🤣

Or abducted by aliens and never seen again. You have to be very careful when asking anyone if they are in a relationship.

Way too intrusive to ask someone on duty at work about their lunch. Their Auntie Janet could have just died after choking on a Dark Chocolate Digestive.

Not intrusive to ask about lunch as most people have lunch. But a bit odd.

OP you must keep us updated on this!

Catshaveiteasy · 06/03/2022 10:41

I dont think there is anything wrong with meeting a partner irl, but this isn't a situation conducive to that. He's at work and you're just a customer. You have no knowledge whatsoever of his circumstances. Accept that you have a crush on him for now and leave it at that.

If you later meet him in the park, a bar, a other venue you can strike up a conversation along the lines of "don't you work at Sainsburys?" and see if it goes anywhere.

TakeSomeMoreTea · 06/03/2022 22:13

I don't agree. What if she never sees him again in these circumstances. Life is very short. I think people forget how little we are actually alive for. Fuck it, ask him out. Sone people make me laugh how uptight they are. You'll all be dead soon enough.

Yes, and organise for a string quartet to appear out of the Veg aisle if he says "And what sort of wine does your husband like?"
BowerOfBramble · 07/03/2022 13:55

I hate to get back to normality here but can't you strike up a chat with the man? Throw in to the conversation that you're single e.g. "another romantic night in just me and Netflix" and see if he responds?

I've worked in customer service and met plenty of people I'd have been happy if they'd asked me out - as long as they weren't creepy about it after.

Yep. He probably does do that for everyone. It's his job. Basic customer service.

Well hello there, fun sponge.
whysoserious123 · 07/03/2022 14:13

You need to ask him where the cucumbers are Wink

Oh God she can't say that! That type of line works on a romantic comedy film, real life not so much without appearing a demented lunatic.

This is horrific Grin how would you even respond to that?

BowerOfBramble · 07/03/2022 17:35

Fine, fine, just a thought Grin

But honestly the answer is to get talking and "make friends" with him, he's never going to realise the red faced woman in the mask is into him.

SartresSoul · 07/03/2022 21:50

I actually met my ex this way. He worked in my local supermarket and I always thought he seemed quite intriguing because he just looked different to anyone else I’d seen in there before. I have a bit of a wild imagination so gave him a name and imagined how he’d be as a person, his interests and so forth. Plucked up the courage to go to his till one day and looked at his name badge, almost the same name as I’d given him (neither were common names). Anyway I just decided to add him on Facebook, he was really easy to find with a name like that.

Terrible relationship, he was an abusive bastard who stalked me for months after it ended and eventually assaulted me. Still, this is how we met and it did just start off with me having a bit of a crush on him. Interestingly he told me he had admired me from afar too when we met so you never know, Mr Sainsburys may feel this way back Wink. Hope he’s not a psychopath, mind…

Stuntbubbles

Next time you’re at the checkout and you hear the beep, think of the fun you could be having on supermarket sweep!

I just spat my tea out.... hilarious this Grin
