I love the new series! I know lots of people don’t agree but I’m already addicted.
Anyway, is it just me who is completely over the moon for Miranda? Not even because she’s discovered her sexuality but because she’s been true to herself and sought out what makes her truly happy? Interested to know how others feel watching this.

No way. Miranda went to Harvard and was a bullsy lawyer in a 1990s man's world making partner. She was the most realistic about life out of the 4 of them.

They've turned her into half the woman she was. No way would the Miranda in the series put up with her son and his girlfriend disrespecting the home like they do.. miranda put Madna in her place... many times.. when she thought her boundaries were being crossed.

It doesn't help that they have turned Steve, who 20 years ago was really "laddish", into someone who now seems about 70. He went from young, a bit nieve, loving "scooby doo" cartoons and shooting hoops just before their son was born, to old man with hearing aids who doesn't know how to satisfy the woman he's been with for years and years.

It's like they have started these characters from scratch and ignored all they were in the series..

This!

She was so cool before

User65412 · 13/01/2022 22:51

Completely agree with a pp. What they've done to Steve is awful. 15 years more like 50 for him! It's cringe worthy.

middleager · 13/01/2022 22:54

I hate what they've done to her and the series.

youtown · 13/01/2022 23:03

Completely agree with other posters. Miranda was a head strong great example for females in the series. Now she's a dithering mess and it gives a bad impression of stereotypes for women IMO. Terrible.

Although I do still like watching the series!

Agree with this!

Miranda always knew her own mind and had a really strong moral code, and very caring side to her. I can't see her cheating on Steve, or not standing up to her son and gf, or being there for Carrie. Also the way she's portrayed as clueless about 'woke' things or socially clumsy irks me. She was a highly educated, successful lawyer with an interest in human rights, not a housewife from Ohio! Of course, she knows how to be politically correct - this stuff gets drilled into you in corporate offices particularly if you're a partner.

I don't really get her sexual confusion either though. They never ever showed her experimenting or even bi curious - in fact it was Samantha and Charlotte who both dabbled in lesbianism, never Miranda. And she certainly wasn't sexually repressed in hedonistic 90s Manhattan where everyone experimented with everything. So to suddenly decide to cheat on her husband in her 50s with a woman just seems like them trying to force modern sexual politics into the story line to stay relevant. I don't buy it.

Hate how they've turned Steve into an old man too. A man who owns a bar in Manhattan isn't going to become a semi retired grandad just yet.

The only thing I can buy is the heavy drinking because that isn't unusual for someone as driven and hard working as AJ is.

Her storyline has disappointed me the most tbh because they've turned her into something unrecognisable.

MorkandMandy · 13/01/2022 23:08

Yeah that’s a good point. She acts as if she’s never had amazing sex before which we know is bullshit. She’s very dithery and hesitant - it’s just not her at all.

user1481840227 · 13/01/2022 23:10

...but because she’s been true to herself and sought out what makes her truly happy?

She's not though. She's trying before she's buying at the moment.. I know that the relationship with Steve isn't much of a relationship any more but she's cheating.

If Miranda had said "I'm not happy so I'm going to end my marriage, I might find I women, I might not, but what I have at the moment isn't enough and I want to find happiness" then I'd agree with you, but that's not how she handled it!

LemonViolet · 13/01/2022 23:10

I’ve not seen this new series, but I’m sure Miranda “dabbled” during the series, she was mistaken for being a lesbian (short hair, obvs) and went to a dinner party with a lesbian friend as whatever the opposite of a beard is (merkin?!?)….. she tried kissing her in the lift at the end of the episode and was like “nope, nothing”.

LeQuern · 13/01/2022 23:11

Agree with all the ‘negative’ responses. Hate what they’ve done to Miranda, Charlotte (become a social climbing nightmare), Steve (55 going on 75), Harry (seems to have lost his sex appeal) and Samantha (most of all - appreciate she’s not physically in the series but AS IF the most successful, loyal, open, non judgemental of all of them would be pissed off at Carrie no longer needing a publicist, let alone so pissed off she fucked off from LA / NYC to London. Awful, point scoring story).

I hate that their egos have been allowed to dictate story.

Borris · 13/01/2022 23:14

Ah no, she didn't dabble. Her colleague thought she was lesbian and set her up on a date with a woman. And she was pissed off initially and about to cancel it, but her boss loved the thought of a lesbian couple at his boring dinner parties, so she stuck it out hoping it would further her career. And she kissed her because she realised that being in a couple even lesbian couple is what got you ahead at her company, so she wanted to be gay. Except she wasn't. And ended it.

Crikeyalmighty · 14/01/2022 10:45

I rather suspect cynthia Nixon (Miranda) who is gay in real life , insisted on this in the storyline. I think it far more likely she would have had an affair with another lawyer and I don’t think she would have given her job up. I do think the Steve character though isquite relatable to— many guys with a spark are unrecognisable both in looks and personality at 55

Crikeyalmighty · 14/01/2022 10:46

I am enjoying it as it’s nice to see the characters back on screen however far too much ‘box ticking ‘ wokeness I feel.

Dazedandconfused28 · 14/01/2022 10:47

Miranda was a smart woman - who would never have made the bumbling faux pas she made when she started attending her course, I hate the way they have stereotyped older women like this. The queer storyline could have been handled so much better, considering she was chested on I don't think she would have acted this way, she was always so adamant in her principles.

RJnomore1 · 14/01/2022 10:55

Different view point….the woke stiff is off but in general Miranda has lost her way a bit; doesn’t want to be a corporate lawyer and is no longer quite sure of who she actually is. Steve’s she’s awfully, it does happen, she’s bored, resentful and uncertain of herself. Along comes che, gorgeous, strong, sure if themself and it’s no wonder she has one hell of a crush. Then this fantastic person suddenly sees her as more than a grey haired post menopausal has been and into bed she falls.

I actually think Ches gender/ sex is a complete red herring and it could have been a man just as easily, it’s a tale as old as time.

nanbread · 14/01/2022 10:58

I wonder if it's meant to be symbolic of women losing their confidence as they age and start losing sex drive etc. Her long term unhappy relationship grinding her down. In real life however, women tend to become more confident with age, in my experience anyway.

BlingLoving · 14/01/2022 11:35

Watching last night I honestly wondered if the storyline with steve is going to be that he has early onset dementia. He was always a bit bumbling which was the issue - was she "settling" or accepting that she wanted something different than the high powered men she thought she wanted, but it's gone so far the other way?

And agree re the kid. I would have thought she'd either be genuinely fine with him shagging it up at theirs or have an issue with respect. Not the sort of helpless bleating....
